The Twins are really, really bad. I'd go as far to say they're in worse shape than the Astros, as at least the Astros have decent young players.

Modern Family is supposed to be a comedy, right? Tonight's episode was just painful to watch.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:34 AM) BTW, we still haven't won a game all season in which we've scored 3 runs or less. Sox need some people to step up, as Rios/AJ have tailed off and Konerko has struggled a little since the neck issue. Alexei had a big hit tonight, so hopefully that gets him going. It is pretty ridiculous that the starting 3b has 2 doubles in 77 at bats.

FYI, the Indians easily lead the majors in walks this year.

Gamel out for the year likely for Brewers with an ACL tear. Might they try to bring in D. Lee?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:13 AM) Chipper Jones would not be denied there. I see no reason why he'd retire after this year. He is ridiculous. That was awesome...he destroyed that pitch

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) This whole night proves that the bullpen is paper-thin without Crain available. There just isn't an easy way to maneuver through 3 innings. Starters really need to go 7 for the pen right now. If Humber would have gotten hit around in the 6th everyone on here would have been completely irate that he even came out to start the inning with his 6 walks and unsharp stuff. Well...he got through it without allowing a run, and no one said anything. I just think that we all need to understand that right now the Sox only have two guys who can be trusted out of the bullpen. And we can't just pitch Thornton and Reed everytime its a close game. Other guys have to step up. Will Ohman stepped up tonight. He got through 1.2 innings without allowing a run...yes, RV mismanaged the 8th, but I'll be honest with you, I didn't have all that big of a problem with Ohman starting the 8th. This thing had extra's written all over it...the Sox showed no signs of pushing a run across and I'm sure RV was just trying to get through another frame without having to turn to Thornton or Reed. If you're going to let Ohman face Kotchman, then you might as well let him face Hannahan. I have a feeling Ventura left Ohman in to face Kotchman to prevent Brantley from trying to steal.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:53 AM) Tonight is the only night he's looked remotely hittable. You mean besides at Oakland on the 24th?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:53 AM) Just one of those nights. Easy to manage in hindsight but not a single reliever did his job tonight (save Stewart) so it's tough to argue at this point. FWIW, I see no indication that we need to be shipping Thornton out. Tonight is the only night he's looked remotely hittable. Oh come on, saying that it was a mistake to bring in a righty to face the lefty hitter was far from "in hindsight"

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:50 AM) So everyone wants Reed closing but is upset Robin put him in versus a LH hitter? If he's closer material, he should be able to get lefties out. Sure, let him start the inning. But putting him in there against a guy who's so much better against righties than lefties, it just gave him no wiggle room.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:48 AM) Everything was fine until he didn't use Thornton to get Kotchmann (when Ohman was clearly wearing down in a multiple inning performance which he's not used to) and then using Reed against their best RBI guy with a runner already on 2nd. Well, that's good for Reed to get a feel for closing, but not really the ideal position you want to put him in, that's for sure. The splits for Hannahan R/L were pretty much irrefutable in terms of the right move there (or not). Great, great post. Will Ohman isn't some rookie who you want to see how long you can stretch them out for.

LaHair looks pretty damn good for the Cubs. Theo will likely trade him to an AL team at the deadline. Also never thought Samardjiza would be as good of a starter as he's looked this year.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:41 AM) It's not so much that he can't jump, it's just much more difficult than it looks to time it properly and jump from the correct place He can't jump...go back and watch Hosmer's homer off of Santos last year to tie the game at the Cell.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:39 AM) Left danks in to long Friday and ohman today. Danks being in "too long" against Red Sox doesn't even compare to how long he left Gavin in when they lost at Oakland.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:37 AM) The Sox are either going to tie it in the bottom of the 9th or win or lose. There isn't a save situation to be had for the home team tonight. Might as well use your closer to keep it as close as possible. Might as well use your best reliever (who's not our designated closer) to get the last out in the 8th if needed.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:37 AM) The Sox are at home. They aren't playing for the save anymore Coming into tonight, Hannahan was batting .341 vs RHP and .167 vs LHP. Again, not an excuse in the world to let him face a lefty. Looks like it's elementary anyways.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:35 AM) I don't know what that was. Like a brutally planned hit and run. And that's why I hate running with 2 strikes. Too many hitters either get distracted or try to protect it seems.
-
Thornton's in now? Holy cow, this continues to make Ventura's decision look even worse.
-
Too bad Acta didn't leave Sipp in for two innings, probably could have scored some runs
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:33 AM) Brutal. Can't believe AJ swung at that pitch
-
I'm sure Pastronicky will perform well for half a year and then fall off the face of the planet after the league adjusts and then he can't adjust
-
Excellent swing by Dunn against the lefty!
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:26 AM) He definitely wanted to see everything Ohman had in the tank. We found out for sure. He's a LOOGY, plain and simple. If a manager doesn't know that, then he doesn't know his squad.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:22 AM) Why was Ohman used at all let alone 1 and two thirds? Worst decision of the year for Robin. His decisions in close games this year have been quite poor.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:21 AM) He's not out, he's the closer and Santiago isn't coming in when the game is this tight. I guess Ventura believes that a LOOGY can go 2 innings but Thornton can't face 4 batters. No excuse for this debacle by Ventura.
