White Sox @ Oakland 4.25 game thread 2:35pm

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) good morning, good afternoon, and good night Eduardo Escobar I'm not really sure what value Escobar brings to the big league club, especially given Ventura's reluctance to make a lot of changes at the end of the game. BTW, you notice how Melvin used his back-up catcher last night to PH and then kept him in the game -

QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) Yeah no kidding...its almost to the point where I dont want Gordon or Brent in the lineup on the same day. Its just a black hole when they are. Morel should stand as close to the plate as possible. His current stance makes it way too easy for pitchers to throw to the outer half and either get the swing and miss or just a weak fly ball to right. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) So Morel isnt very good zero tool player right now...he's really giving this team nothing right now. Who would have ever thought it would be the veterans we enjoyed watching hit this year and dreading watching our young players? -

QUOTE (KG#1 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:00 PM) I am shocked that Morel struck out. Dude is more worthless this April than last. Fixed for you. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) Fuko kills one right at 3rd base. Two outs for Morel. Ugh, seen Fukudome do that already this year. -

Quick calculations show that from the 2nd spot this year, we're 9-69 (.130 batting average) with 3 doubles and 5 walks. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) ASAP means "As soon as possible". Which means...as soon as possible. It's not currently possible and it won't be for a while...but hopefully it might be at some point. I can't see it happening during the year. I saw someone mentioned the Dodgers, but they're more likely to wait until the offseason to either extend Ethier or go after Hamilton, Hamels, etc.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) He's one of those guys that makes everything look so fluid and easy that it appears as though he is not trying. He has tons of talent and that makes him a lightning rod for criticism when he doesn't play well. I understand that. But it is in everyone's best interests for him to play well..either because it improves our chances of winning games or because it improves our chances of shipping him out. I see him as a guy who can really be a key to both our offense and defense, and so I choose to cheer him on...but I can understand those who don't trust him and just want him gone. Having him fail, however, won't help anyone. Thing is, even if he plays well and we don't win and he doesn't get traded, it's a heck of a lot better to have someone the next few years who's just not an absolute non-factor on the roster. I see a lot of people asking for him to get traded ASAP, and as much as that could help the franchise, it's just not likely to happen with the amount of money he has left on his deal.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) Greg has had it out for Rios since the day we acquired him. I don't like Rios either, but he's been a huge catalyst for this offense and basically won us at least two games so far this year (Texas/Sunday in Seattle). Greg's been making some very definitive statements the last few days about Rios and the Sox.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) What the heck is wrong with you? Ironic because he used to praise Ozzie for handling the players and their psyche so well. Now that Ozzie's gone, I guess that doesn't matter.

If Gavin pitches like he did tonight, things are going to be good this summer. Rather lose 2-0 in this fashion than to lose 10-6 with Gavin getting bombed. Biggest needs for the team right now are getting the 2nd spot in order figured out and getting Viciedo on track.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:42 AM) Well somebody predicted this before the game. Would that poster take a bow? Somebody said we had no chance against the soft tossing lefty even with Walker far away in Atlanta. Give Milone credit. He didn't miss over the plate with more than a few fastballs all night. He's one of the best rookie pitchers in all of baseball.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:41 AM) It was a real nice cut. He just missed it. There was absolutely no way he was looking for a breaking ball. No way. The 3-2 pitch, seemed like he was looking inner half.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:40 AM) It's 3-1. You HAVE to think fastball to be successful. If he aces you with an offspeed pitch, there's not much you can do. IF you swing and make weak contact, it'll probably result in an out. He did this the other night with the bases loaded on a 3-2 count. You KNOW it's going to be a fastball right there. The result was a backwards K. He's a guess hitter at this stage in his career, it seems. That 2-1 offspeed pitch by Balfour seemed to have changed Dunn's mindset at the plate.
-
Just like how Thornton wasn't the wrong move (leaving Gavin in was), I have no issue with getting Dunn up to bat. The bigger issue was letting Beckham bat when you had 2 lefties significantly better in Fukudome/AJP.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:35 AM) How a MLB batter misses that 3-1 pitch is beyond me. Looked like he was expecting an offspeed pitch maybe?
-
Tough loss for Gavin
-
Wow, Rios is not going to be happy
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:30 AM) There's a reason. Didn't necessarily maximize our chances of winning today, but there was a reason. He's had every chance in the world here. Getting ph there would have not been a big deal.
-
QUOTE (iguchi=dank @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:30 AM) I'm sold on his temperament and chemistry, completely dumbfounded on moves during games this last week or so. Beckham batting there, inexusable +1...his decision making during Orioles series was pretty bad.
-
Ha, letting Beckham bat there against a fastball pitcher is another just really bad managerial decision.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:24 AM) Meh, Matt just needs to throw something other than the same pitch in the same spot repeatedly. Again, I don't see why there is some illusion that Thornton should only pitch to lefties. I understand he's not a ground ball pitcher, but he is a strikeout pitcher and our shutdown guy late in games. That is absolutely his situation to come in. The bigger issue is Gavin should have never started that inning.
-
Beckham gets to bat
-
Should be seeing AJP leading off with Dunn batting 3rd next inning.
