  1. The frustrating thing with Quentin is there was no reason for him not to be moved at the deadline last year. Now, instead of getting value, he seems like more of a salary dump candidate. If Bergesen is the main player acquired in a trade for other than someone like Jordan Danks, I will be very unhappy.
  2. Bergesen was the second worst pitcher in baseball with over 100 innings last year.
  3. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:52 AM) scottmerkin Scott Merkin Brad Bergesen one of the names floated by Orioles to White Sox in potential trade talks. Could include Quentin and/or Floyd 4 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Wat? Holy hell, that guy sucks! I will say this, I have no faith in KW to acquire equal value.
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:44 AM) DKnobler DKnobler White Sox rebuilding: If they get what they want, Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Beckham all will be gone by opening day 1 minute ago Favorite Retweet Reply If that happens, it's a real shame Kenny is still here and those guys are gone.
  5. The more I think about this trade, the more I feel like KW might have been too focused on Molina and could have gotten a lot more from one of these other teams looking to acquire a closer without having to spend a lot of money (ie: Reds).
  6. The way things are going, our ticket plan will probably be named something like The Return of the Grinder Plan.
  7. Honestly, doesn't bother me at all if Rowand is back. This definitely signals to me that Quentin will be traded soon.
  8. Well, I know one person happy about this move
  9. Sale is going to be starting, end of story! Crain will probably start year as closer, and Reed will take over by June.
  10. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) I'd take the Braves #2 prospect as well (Vizcaino).... Ha, and I'd take Minka Kelly
  11. Thornton to Braves makes no sense at all. They have Venters and O'Flaherty
  12. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Thornton to Atlanta. According to Cowley Did it say for who? I have a feeling people are going to be very disappointed in whatever we get back for Thornton.
  13. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) I hope that Atlanta deal goes through What deal?
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) The problem with a youth movement is Peavy, Dunn and Rios are going nowhere so the payroll is not dropping as much as the attendance will. I have no issue with a youth movement but what are they going to do with those 3? Thankfully Peavy's in last year of his deal
  15. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) I suppose so. Haha...still Santos is at least proven at the major league level. Again, my problem is these trades seem to lack levity. Kenny trades multiples of our prospects (from a system that has never been that good since he got here) and we can't get something like that on the flipside? I just don't understand him. I suppose he is living off 2005 like Ozzie did. We mentioned before that KW gets fixated on certain players, and in my opinion, doesn't really care about getting "throw-ins" included in deals that would help add to the organizational depth.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) Huh? Reds have been offering him up for closers supposedly (H. Street and Bailey)
  17. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) Agree on all counts. The only problem I have is the man in charge of the rebuilding plan. KW has lost all benefit of doubt and should be the next one out the door if the prospects he acquires fail to show progress. Unfortunately, a rebuilding period probably buys KW at least another two years before Reiny considers replacing him. I couldn't agree more with this
  18. Would people have been happier if we traded Santos for Edison Volquez?
  19. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Have we forgot the start of last year? The blown saves we never recovered from? Then came Sergio and at least you could invest 3 hrs watching a game and have confidence we could hold a win. Ready for that feeling again? 6 blown saves, 3.55 ERA....not exactly Mariano
  20. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Amen. A proven closer at, what, $2.5M/yr over the next 3, plus team options for the following 3? And we get a single prospect back? Nestor's numbers look great but he hasn't thrown but a few innings in AA, albeit quality innings. I wouldn't say Santos is a proven closer yet. He had one of the highest ERAs for a closer in the majors.
  21. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) With closers at a premium, we could have got more. Since we are rebuilding now, getting 1 prospect for your most marketable major league player, is not admirable and typical Williams. Now that we are rebuilding, I don't want him on the construction site. There's a lot of options out there for teams with regards to closers (Madson, Street, Bailey)
  22. Sergio really wasn't that great last year.
  23. Rock, have you heard of any FA that the Sox might go after?
  24. I guarantee you that Toronto asked for Beckham for this guy
  25. This deal actually reminds me a lot of the McCarthy/Danks deal
