QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Interested to hear Hawk's take... So he can talk about Ventura stories from last century?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) The more I think about this, the more I like it. Me too...as I just told a friend, this isn't like college athletics where you have to bring in a head coach that you know can recruit as well as manage a game. Ventura will get his chance, and if he tanks, he won't be here very long.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) And I really couldn't care less about any of that. If he can manage then he can manage, I don't know if he can but I'm going to wait before I get pissed off about it. Robin is clearly an intelligent baseball person but that doesn't mean he's going to be a good manager but it certainly doesn't mean he's going to be a bad one either. I do agree that this is a very White Soxish(ya I'm making s*** up) hire but there's no reason to completely overreact about it at this point. Great post...I'm not too upset. It's not like Martinez is a sure-thing anyways. I do have to laugh when Dwyane Wade said last offseason that JR is not loyal.

I have Officially Conceded the Season is Over

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Bingo. You have just hit on the angle of every reporter/broadcaster surrounding Adam Dunn this offseason and next spring training. We are gonna hear "a lot" about the appendectomy ruining everything for Dunn. He'll report 10 pounds lighter as well. Now whether that weight total will be correct or not, who knows? But it'll be 10-15 pounds lighter, a new committed HEALTHY Adam Dunn ... in the media and Sox promotions at least. Not a single person truly believes the appendectomy ruined everything. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:09 PM) Completely understanding your logic, but maybe we shoud have put Kenny Williams on waivers first? I'm so sick of these type of comments derailing legitimate threads.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) The news still ticks me off that KW would think about selling off our team CPT Are you kidding? That would have been a brilliant trade if he could have gotten Goldschmidt to go along with some of the great pitching the Diamondbacks have in their minor league system.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) 1.) I told you I look at the big picture in terms of managers. All managers call for the same type crap. Bunts, deciding whether or not to walk a guy, choice of relief pitchers. And everybody this postseason has been exposed for making some mistakes just like Oz. All managers do not call for the same number of bunts. You keep pointing out that Hamilton I believe bunted down a lot of runs, but it wasn't a freaking sacrifice attempt. Stop trying to spin every article out there to support what little evidence you have about your feelings on Ozzie.

2011 ALDS Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees Thread
fathom replied to Brian's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) So the Yankees whole season comes down to A.J. Burnett & his 5.15 ERA, 1.43 WHIP. Never in a million years will I understand why the Yanks and Red Sox didn't go all out to get Danks. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 03:36 AM) Thanks, JC, I eventually accepted that Sale was going to start the season in the bullpen. But my initial thoughts were consistent in that I thought he should've started the season in AAA. Add me to the group who wanted Sale anywhere but the bullpen.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 01:10 AM) Wow, Homeland on Showtime is fantastic. There are no words. One of the best pilots I've ever watched
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Sox farm system is so paper thin, it may be the worst in MLB. Marlins might be now
-
Anyone else watch Homeland? I thought it was fantastic

2011 NLDS St. Louis Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Phillies Thread
fathom replied to Brian's topic in The Diamond Club
LaRussa didn't manage that game to win. Rslgkglhgagpoijoiki should have been brought in to face Howard. -
As someone said earlier, Theo to Cubs would be bad news. Means they'd likely spend a ton of money this offseason on someone like Prince or Pujols.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) Reinsdorf seems to do OK cashing in on using former players. If Fisk was named manager tomorrow I bet that boost sales. I really don't get the sense that Sox fans go to the park because of who their manager is.
-
I didn't watch Person of Interest last night. How was it? I decided to stop watching it after the first episode, as I didn't see how the show could continue to be interesting.
-
I think it's much more likely the Cubs sign Francona
-
What I don't get is everyone clamoring for Martinez yet yawning at the thought of Alomar. Neither of them have any type of significant managerial experience to base our opinion of how they'll be as a MLB manager. People are upset that Alomar might be reserved and quiet? Screw that, I'll take reserved and quiet if it means making smart decisions.

Hearing that female minister mispronounce nearly everything in her baseball sermon made me want to throw my remote. "Three to oh"..."Lewis Castio"
-
This might be the most unbelievable night of baseball I can recall.
-
QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:32 AM) lol, the Yankees didnt throw that game.. They "took it easy" by using a pitcher committee, but when youre up 7-0 you dont all of the sudden go "alright, NOW we throw this game!!" :notworthy Yep, getting to a point where Tampa was a strike away from losing probably isn't a smart decision by the Yankees if they did throw the game on purpose
-
Makes me giggle that on the day Ozzie is hired in Florida, Tampa definitely steals the headlines.
-
QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:22 AM) Why? In such a dramatic moment, the homer is about as "weak" as possible.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:20 AM) Just to spite the Red Sox Nation? It was curious and it will be a decision that is dissected across the country, not using Rivera there to close it out. Yankees had said Rivera wouldn't be used tonight. Red Sox fans can't complain, as Yanks didn't use some of their better players in that long extra inning game against Boston on Sunday.
