The Sox need a bench
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) This kinda hits it. http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/8/9/32312...t-bench-players So the 2005 bench basically had 4 players with a higher OPS than anyone on the Sox bench (not counting Olmedo's 1-3)? I don't think anyone is asking for the Sox to go out and acquire superstars for the bench, but it sure seems like guys like Fontenot and Pierre would be significant upgrades over the players they'd be replacing on the bench.

The Sox need a bench
It just seems unlikely that KW is comfortable having to start Olmedo or Hudson probably once a week to cover for Youk and his injuries. I thought the last two games highlighted the need for an addition or two to the bench. Marty's probably the only person on this board that will agree with me, but getting someone like Pierre to play a few games in LF against tough righties would really help this team out. If this was last year, I'm sure Abreu would have been brought in and forced to play in the field.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) 2-2, Avila homer, no outs in the 5th Extremely deep lineup they have right now. Peralta's and Avila really playing well since the ASB. Also, Tampa seems rejuvenated with Longoria back. Their pitching since the ASB has been sensational.

Paul Konerko: Mild Concussion
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) Call up Dan Johnson, although I don't think he's on the 40-man. There's also Brent Morel and Youk can play first in PK's absence. Morel's not hitting anything in the minors either right now. I'd prefer C. Jackson get the call.

Paul Konerko: Mild Concussion
Some more information on the injury. Might be best to put him on the 7 day DL and get him back next Wednesday. Hope there are no lingering issues. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,788300.story

Paul Konerko: Mild Concussion
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 04:28 AM) That weak bench got us Youk, Liriano, and Myers. Yes, but you can't get complacent with an awful bench with the hope you won't have to use the guys often. The time is now to get someone useful off of waivers in case an injury takes place after August ends. Youk seems like he's going to have to be benched at least once a week. If they do DL PK, I wonder if they call up Wise or CoJack?

Paul Konerko: Mild Concussion
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:11 AM) How many AL teams have great benches? If the Sox come up short, it won't be because of a weak bench. They might not have great benches, but the Sox bench has been almost worse than you can imagine. Our non-core players of ADA, Youk, Beckham, Rios, Dunn, Konerko, AJ, Morel, Ramirez and Viciedo are: 86 for 439 (.196) with 3 home runs With Youk saying he's had lingering soreness in his knee, it's imperative they get someone that can back him up if needed.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 04:04 AM) How did he get a concussion? Dyson accidentally made contact to his face on a grounder last night. I'm sure greg will suggest a lie detector test for Dyson.

Paul Konerko: Mild Concussion
Supposedly Ventura announced in the post game that PK has a mild concussion. If they need to, Sox can put him on the 7 day concussion list. Kenny, get us another bat!

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 02:50 AM) well the royals will keep the white sox from the playoffs once again....that series was f***ing pathetic. It's way too early to say this. It's so much more likely the Sox playoff chances will be determined by the remaining 7 games against the Tigers.
