Stewart looks like he's about to cry. His body language after that last homer was pathetic.

Royals @ sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 01:01 AM) Everytime you rip him it builds my confidence in him. You still see something in him that should make us optimistic? He's getting destroyed out there.

Royals @ sox
Holy cow does Stewart suck. Maybe this is good, as it will ensure he's not just handed a spot for next year.

Royals @ sox
Stewart just isn't impressive. God help us if he's in the starting rotation next year. He seems to be a very comfortable at bat for hitters.

Will JR do the right thing?
I'm thinking we should also be proactive and lock up Peavy to a 3 year, 45 million dollar extension. If he can pitch like the grinder he is next year, the former Cy Young Winner will get more money on the open market. Can you imagine how much money a team like the Marlins would pay Peavy? He'd be a great mentor for their young pitchers, as well as a terrific piece for them to have when they make the postseason.

Mark Buehrle appreciation thread?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) I find that really hard to see...unless they let Oswalt walk without picking up his option. Oswalt's not returning from everything I've heard.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) Yes. The baseball HOF gets on my nerves sometimes (I.E. Roberto Alomar not making it on his first try). But they almost always eventually get it right. Unlike the basketball HOF in which you simply had to have dribbled a ball at some point and you're in. Matter of fact, just as I typed this I think fathom just got voted into the basketball hall of fame. Congrats, fathom. I'd like to thank AC Green for making me feel like Wilt Chamberlain. I'd like to thank Chris Dudley for making me feel like I had good form on my free throws. I'd like to thank my children for never tweeting during the season.

Mark Buehrle appreciation thread?
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) That part about wanting to see how other organizations are run is pretty interesting. You wonder if he meant anything more by it. Either way, it does sound like he's seriously thinking about leaving. Agreed...I could see him being a perfect fit as a 4th or 5th starter for the Phillies.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) I get what you are trying to say, but it is this very mentality that is sucking the fun out of the GAME of baseball. It isn't just about what statistics a player puts up. If that were really the case, it would be easy to write an algorithm and let it decide who should be in the HOF. But then you get someone like Sosa that was a cheater AND played the game with a smile

Didn't make it longer than two minutes watching Whitney due to the TERRIBLE laugh track.

9/22/11 - Sox @ Cle - 6:05p on CSN
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 02:23 AM) Most reports I've read note that his change is the 3rd pitch and the slider is typically fantastic. The Indians announcer corroborated this a few minutes ago. I haven't intently watched him pitch lately though. Ozzie shared my view of Reed having a good fastball/change but needing to refine his slider.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 02:07 AM) Sox making a run at pick number 13 in next year's draft. Go Nats/Reds/Mets. Nats making a great run at it of late!

Reed's slider is really mediocre...good thing hitters seem to struggle against his fastball/change-up combo

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 02:03 AM) That was smoked. Ozzie got Humber's ERA all the way up to 3.86

Not quite sure why Ozzie has been pushing his starting pitchers so hard of late.

Fukudome has destroyed the Sox since the Indians acquired him. Wouldn't shock me if KW goes after him this offseason for some position.

Aramis Ramirez
Sox are likely to end up with a protected first round pick anyways

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 01:43 AM) But you told me he doesn't have the power to be a big league hitter. He's a failure. You know very well what his stats were when we were debating that. Major kudos for the person who convinced him to swing with authority.

Jason Frasor is just a terrible pitcher now. Good riddance to the Cubs fan. As for Morel, I couldn't be more excited about his performance the last few weeks.

a "successful season" in the major leagues
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Eh, weren't people expecting a down year from Cincinnati? No, they had huge expectations. Only reason for pessimism is if starting pitching was fatigued from previous season. Just a wasted year for them with Votto one year closer to being a FA.

a "successful season" in the major leagues
How about teams that had blatantly unsuccessful seasons? - White Sox - Cubs - Twins - Orioles - Rockies - Padres - A's - Mariners - Mets - Astros - Reds Of this list, I'd say the two Chicago teams, Reds and Twins had the worst seasons with regards to big picture

a "successful season" in the major leagues
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Successful: Philly, NYY, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Arizona, Detroit, Texas, LAA, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Iffy: Boston, KC, Washington, Torotno (depends on if Boston can win the series or not and how the youth develops on the other franchises, which can only be judged a few years down the line). I'd say Cleveland had a successful year, as they far exceeded their projected attendance numbers and saw significant development from Masterson, Santana and Kipnis while bringing in a possible ace.

I think the playoff structure is perfect as it is. Adding more teams to the postseason would be pathetic.

Why Would Guillen Want To Stay?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) If this phenom Logan Morrison is rumored to be the Sox target in exchange for talking to Ozzie - he seems to have struggled the last couple years. Was he hurt this year? He didn't have much in the way of stats Near .800 OPS in a terrible hitter's park for lefties, combined with facing some ridiculous pitching in the NL East...not bad at all. He's likely only going to get better as well.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Yes. No one wants the clown to have emotions. Sure, one season of Barney/Robin I'll choke through and hate... but we're going on our third here. Still can't believe how much Robin's looks have hit the wall. Victoria also looked significantly worse than she used to.
