  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 12:27 AM) Would Ozzie be fired if he insisted on having Brent Morel leadoff? Would he get fired for insisting on batting Juan Pierre in the clean up spot? If the answer is yes to either, shouldn't he get fired for insisting to bat Dunn 4th after all he has seen? Who knows if he is correct, but Cowley was saying today that Ozzie is keeping Dunn 4th as an F-U to Kenny for acquiring a slugging DH when KW knows Ozzie didn't want that.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) With all the hope and promise of getting better in 2011 - we continue to get worse. I didn't think it was bleeping possible. When you have such god awful mechanics like Rios does, there's no reason to really think it will get better. Dunn actually took better swings in his first AB, it's just he has mediocre power now it seems.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 01:20 AM) That was pretty predictable. 4 stranded through 2 innings. Carrasco has no command, but I guess it's bad luck...hitting bullets all over the field again.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 12:17 AM) 3 pitches Teahen chases so many offspeed pitches with two strikes, it's amazing. For someone with no power, he has very little plate coverage.
  5. Maybe the worst AB of the year for Rios. His head couldn't have moved more in those last two swings.
  6. Ball just doesn't jump off of Dunn's bat anymore
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) Thanks for that stat. Another example of us eating our own on here. Or maybe wanting a little more consistency from someone who has the talent to play better than he does? He's made some huge strides this year though (hitting LHP and defensively)
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) I am overwhelmed by the staggering profundity of your artfully crated retort. Yes, the guy coming off a terrible injury, and who by the way has started to hit quite well lately, and was already known to be raw on drafting him... is "awful". Thanks for adding to the discussion. Wait, 1 for last 22 with 11 strike outs is nothing "hitting well lately". Virtually every scout that's seen him this year is very worried about him. I still don't get the whole injury angle either. Yes, I could see his speed being negated due to it, but you can't blame all this striking out solely on him missing a year. Strike outs were an issue with him coming into last season as well. I still have slight hope for him, but at this point, projecting him as ever being a MLB quality player is an extreme longshot.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) Beltran is also going to cost a team a lot more than Q. I really don't see why he should. He's a rental who you can't offer arbitration to.
  10. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) Yep and I didnt expect top prospects for either. I would take what you get for Jackson and hopefully you atleast get something decent for Carlos. Based upon the lack of pitching available on the market, it would be silly to just give up Jackson for anything you can get.
  11. Cowley was saying the same thing about Quentin and Jackson possibly being on the way out. Pretty simple, if you don't get a good package for Quentin, you don't trade him. There's plenty of other at bats you can find Viciedo for the rest of this season.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) The funny part is all of mine are news articles, and very few of them are optimistic. Exactly..the news stories surrounding this team are negative, for the most part. Thankfully, should be some more interesting stories in the next 10 days.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) I'll say this for probably the 6,000th time. Probe a Yankees, Mets or Red Sox message board. That's the definition of extreme pessimism. You can definitely see that most of the posters here don't realize there are other boards besides Soxtalk. I can't imagine how ugly a thread would be on SOSH if Carl Crawford was batting around .150. The Red Sox fans were in full panic mode in April about him and their team. I guarantee there were multiple "are you in or out" threads there....that probably even contained hyperboles.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:52 AM) Because they are in first place and getting a triple A call up instead of anything at the deadline. Why would they waste any of their limited resources in bringing in someone to play that position when they have one of the highest ranked prospects at the position ready to contribute? From the sound of it, they're going to get another outfielder in next week and possibly another starter.
  15. The real issue is we need Bryan Dolgin back as our pregame/postgame host. I believe he did it for one year, and that was 2005. Pretty good luck with him, I'd say!
  16. FWIW, 13 of the 17 threads I see on the main page were created by extremely optimistic Soxtalk posters (ss2k, jpn, greg hibbard, and a few others)
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:39 AM) the truth being you are Joe Cowley? I didn't see an answer to this, did you?
  18. Probably injured himself posing for raunchy pictures again
  19. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) GT basketball also hit by the NCAA for a major violation. http://college-basketball-blog.blogs.cbssp...283066/30615446 IU rivals mod was tellling us some VERY interesting stories about Hewitt and his shadiness this morning. I'd love to hear these stories. Please PM me.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) SO you're saying they should fire him for his radio appearance? Heck no (I know you weren't asking me). This entire thing is such a non-issue. Cooper's a bad radio guest...but most athletes are. Just a hyped up story on an off day where nothing else is going on.
  21. No way doc, at least Erstad had the decency to get injured!
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) So should the Sox fire him or something? Or do we need to continue to confirm that Coop's day job is a better fit for him than radio? Ha, I've always thought Cooper must really enjoy the extra cash from the radio gig...as he sure seems to hate doing it.
