Your mood going into the offseason
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) What Paul Konerko had to say, said it all. PK said stuff after he re-signed last offseason though that showed he was peeved about the drama. You never heard Hawk mention one thing bad about Ozzie during his 7 years until last night.

Your mood going into the offseason
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) How long do you think it will take before Ozzie/Oney start the public feud? After next manager is hired? Thing is, unlike in the past, there are actually members of the Sox that can verbally retaliate against the Guillens if they want without fearing for their job, etc. That's why I hope everyone just stays quiet and Ozzie can return for 2005 reunions in the future without any controversy, etc.

Your mood going into the offseason
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Why do I think that now it's all over in the coming weeks we're going to hear more and more about how that clubhouse really was and what players really thought of him? Hearing Hawk ALMOST criticize Ozzie last night was all I needed to hear to know that people in the clubhouse wanted him out. I hope everyone stays quiet from this point on.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) The Braves have a ton of talent...but young talent only gets you so far. If you don't believe me, go take a look at Jayson Heyward's Becktackular numbers this year. It's not just young talent though...they have really good players up and down their roster. McCann is a stud and Freeman looks fantastic. They do have to hope that Hanson's shoulder hasn't fallen off.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) I'm going to give the Nats at least another year or two before I start thinking of them as anything. Stras will be on an innings limit next year, Harper will probably break in next year but it's going to take him a while to get to dominance, and Jayson Werth's contract makes Adam Dunn's look good. Thing is, Marlins could very well go after someone like Reyes. I hope Marlins do go after some big name free agents, as the White Sox won't be pursuing those guys so I'd rather have the best players stay in the NL (as long as they don't sign with the Cubs).

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:55 PM) You really think that's how it went down? The team didn't want him so he left for the big bucks where he gets a new start and he'll be loved. Ozzie did say the one thing he's always been is honest. A minute later, he said there was no truth to him going to the Marlins anytime soon.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) LOL. I love how everyone is overlooking how incredible the competition will be for Florida for the next few years. The Marlins will be lucky to be a 3rd place team during Ozzie's tenure. They're in a worse situation, IMO, than the Blue Jays. The Braves have a great roster and will probably bring in some studs by trading someone like Jurrjens.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) The real problem with the "First year or two" for Ozzie in Florida actually has a name. Or a couple of names. Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, Hunter Pence, Cole Hamels, etc. Nationals and Braves could be ridiculously talented as well the next few years. I think the Marlins have a lot of talent on their roster but very little depth. A bad year from Hanley or Josh Johnson or Stanton, and they're toast.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) This is Florida's last chance at selling out the stadium on a regular basis. They get a great manager who is Latin and a new ballpark. He also is great tool for PR. He'll be all over the commercials as they market Ozzie Guillen, the man who won a WS in Florida and one in Chicago. Perfect scenario for Marlins. I'm just thankful there's not a big GLBT population in Miami that might have been offended by Ozzie's actions in the past.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
Personally, I think Ozzie is a terrible fit with the Marlins. They're a big slugging team with Hanley, Stanton, Morrison, Sanchez and Buck. However, Ozzie will try to play small ball with Bonafacio, Infante etc. and likely take the bat out of his best hitter's hands. Ozzie would have been better with a team with more flexibility and speed.

Sox acquire Marlins' #4 & #5 prospects for Ozzie.
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) I think the story of the Sox asking for Morrison last year distorted a lot of perceptions as to Ozzie's worth. Rumor yesterday is that it was Stanton we asked for

2012 Draft Preview
Be nice if the Sox lost one of their two remaining games to lock up a top 15 pick.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) HIMYM was actually solid last night. Agreed, and the one thought I keep having is "why does Robin look like an ugly 55 year old woman now".

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) Very low IP totals. Makes me wonder if there is some decent upside with some regular work. Seems like he might be an injury concern with some shoulder/elbow issues. However, definitely a high ceiling player that could help in a year or two.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
Nice to see Jhan was added in the trade. Probably the best guy we could have hoped for, as no way they'd trade Yelich.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Apparently in addition to wanting an extension, Ozzie also asked for Kenny to be fired. Good for Ozzie...might as well go "all in" and try to get all your demands met. So far, I've not heard one thing that went on behind the scenes that has frustrated me.

White Sox Manager Search Thread
I'd be cool with Sandy as the manager. Hawk can use the same script he's used for the past 7 years by saying "I said when watching him play in the big leagues that one day, he'd be a great manager".

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) Let's not beat around the bush here...there is a lot of work to be done before the White Sox can get to "Mildy entertaining". A listless team with a listless new manager/front office would be almost as little fun as this year...the only difference is that the offensive factor/the outrage would be gone. To me, the most exciting part is the hope that a new hitting coach will get some of our core players back on track. For someone like Beckham, next year has to be a make it or break it year and the hitting coach excuse can't be used anymore. Same goes for Dunn...if he struggles next year, he's going to be out of baseball. I'm not saying a hitting coach can save either of these guy's career...but it's worth a try.

I just got so excited at the thought of Zambrano joining Ozzie in Florida.

Buddy Bell is the name that the pro-Ozzie crowd is trying to promote in order to make it sound like "oh no, we'll go with the old guy cause the Sox could never find a solid replacement".

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) Per Rotoworld Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that Osvaldo Martinez will be sent to the White Sox along with a minor league pitcher in exchange for manager Ozzie Guillen. Martinez, 23, was an 11th round selection in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft. Known more for his defense than offense, he batted just .245/.296/.322 with three home runs and 26 RBI in 371 plate appearances this season at Triple-A New Orleans. He can't really be considered a prospect. The trade is expected to go final on Wednesday. Per Florida top 10 2011 ML prospect ranking #7 Osvaldo Martinez, SS, Grade C+: A good year, I can see him as a steady contributor, don't be deceived by small sample size success in the majors. He's more of a .250-.270 hitter with a fair OBP. I really thought Sox could of done better than this IMO, but then again it is KW at the helm. The Marlins don't have much in their system that's not already on their 40 man roster.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) 4 years for a pitching coach? Jesus, that is like a 10 year deal for a player. That just doesn't happen. Sounds like extra incentive to get him to stay without having to promote him.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 06:14 AM) JesseSanchezMLB Jesse Sanchez by ESPNChiSox A source told MLB.com that the compensation is expected to be infielder Osvaldo Martinez and a Minor Leaguer pitcher for Ozzie Guillen. 18 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Osvaldo seems like a AAA caliber SS. Had a real good overall season in 2010, but has been miserable this year. BA had him #5 Florida prospect heading into the year. No real concern about who's in this trade though.
