KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
So you had a GM and Manager that hated each other, a Manager and a pitching coach that didn't trust each other, and players that were pissed about all the drama going on? I am definitely excited for a new era of White Sox baseball with the focus is on the field and not off of it.

Konerko talks with AZ happened in August
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Well it started with Goldschmidt, and I am sure it included multiple top level pitcher prospects. You really think KW would try to reacquire a young lefty high school pitching prospect he already traded? Doesn't seem like something he'd do.

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Everyone knew that about Ozzie except his most ardent defenders. KW though? Cooper said Kenny wasn't as visible this year due to the turmoil.

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
Listening to Cooper talk, it really makes you feel like KW and Ozzie were really lacking in focus this past season with regards to what took place on the field. Very disappointing

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
Wow, Cooper with no love loss for the Guillen family. "The high road doesn't exist for certain people".

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
Milkman, you know you're my boy. Let me ask you this: what part of managing are you worried that Ventura won't be able to handle?

2011 ALDS Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees Thread
I was rooting for the Yankees, I'll admit it. Do the Twins receive bonus money if the Tigers win it all by basically handing the Tigers Delmon Young?

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
People are really upset that this might signal we're not going "all in" the next few years? Consider me relieved and hopeful that the organization will take a step back and see that there's a need to rebuild. I know I've received some ribbing due to praising the Tigers so much, but there's no reason that they aren't the class of the AL Central the next 2-3 years. I'd rather the Sox hope for Dunn and Rios to rebound instead of trying to cover their mistakes by bringing in other high-priced guys.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I sure hope Ventura doesn't try to pull a pitcher and signal for a lefty instead of a righty...oops!

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 02:17 AM) Maybe his quote about being "President" of the organization in the Doug Padilla article just posted? If he said that, it's not a big deal. Would have been unprofessional to say he wanted to be a manager for the Sox while his former teammate was still there.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:13 AM) And yet he's already talking about other jobs. What's this in reference to?

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
No one has answered the most important question: do Ventura's kids have twitter accounts?

Konerko talks with AZ happened in August
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) Don't be- I am just acknowledging other people have ideas and thoughts too and all should be respected. My comments and others like these are just as legitimate as your or anyone elses. Fathom am I to gather from your comment that these posts aren't done for anything more than to state one mans opinion and then blindly follow? I am crushed but I accept and respect your opinion and right to post it I have no problem with everyone posting their own opinion, but posting in a thread about Konerko on waivers how "KW should be placed on waivers" just derails the thread. No beef with you personally though elrockin.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I like the hire but Robin came across terrible on that conference call

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Gonna combine sabermetrics and scouting(wow, there's an idea)! I don't like it...he should combine making moves based off of the back of baseball cards as well as his gut!

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I liked the quote from Danks about how Ventura knew what was going on with the players.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) I hope Robin can get through to Beckham about the mental side of the game. They need to give Beckham one more year, and having a manager that has gone through a similar experience may pay off for Gordon. Man, if only Venutra ever dealt with a prolonged slump

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
Wouldn't that be ironic if Ventura lives on a boat in Lake Michigan during his tenure as White Sox manager. He made more money in his pro career than Ozzie and was a significantly better player.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) What if no one hires Dave Martinez. What if he shows up to all the interviews drunk. We don't know. What if he boned Kenny's wife back in the 90s? Sarcasm of course, but Martinez is a little over-hyped to me.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I'd love to know what Ventura's philosophy is with regards to small ball, etc. I'm sure KW has talked to him about this, and they'd be on the same page.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) WHERE IS THIS FRANK THOMAS TALK COMING FROM no doubt, most definitely from somewhere

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) Fathom, interested to hear your take? Don't mind it at all. I sincerely hope Ventura and KW have a strong r'ship so we won't see any games between the two of them and they make decisions to try and help the organization instead of winning a pissing contest. I am very hopeful that Ventura's demeanor will create a new vibe in the clubhouse.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Since I respect your baseball opinion as much as anyone on this board, let me ask you this - Don't you think that a guy should at least have some type of coaching experience at some level before a major league baseball team in a major market hires him as manager? And shouldn't that person have previously expressed a desire to coach and one day manage? As far as I can remember, Ventura up until very recentlt ( maybe a couple of years ago at the longest) used to always state that he had no desire to be a coach. I hope he turns out to be a great manager, and I believe he already will be better than the Ozzie of the past few years, but why not give someone like Martinez or Alomar at least a chance to interview for the job? I'll hang up and listen for my answer. I appreciate it SSFM. No, I think Ventura knows the game well enough to manage. Especially since he's joining a situation where he won't have to hire his own pitching coach, and he has a very involved General Manager. Someone earlier in this thread did a great job of mentioning how Cooper has basically managed the pitchers the last 7 or so years.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
greg, I'm shocked you don't like this. You always say that fans came out to the Cell to see Ozzie since they loved him from his playing days. Well, I can all but guarantee Ventura was far more beloved during his White Sox playing days.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) If u are gonna hire Robin ... why didn't they just hire Coop? And make Robin bench coach. Very dumb move IMO. Because Cooper's demeanor in stressful situations (ie: radio interviews) is awful
