Offseason Plans
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Not just that though...he'd also be going to a team with arguably no shot at winning in the next 2 years. They might have a legit shot if they can land both Pujols and Buehrle...but that's a $40 million a year commitment that we're talking about...and that team would still look darn weak. Agree completely...I still think the Phillies are a possible destination if Oswalt leaves.

Offseason Plans
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Oct 15, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) Just throwin this out there as far fetched as it may appear to seem initially. Does anyone give any credence to the remote possibility that Mark B. may elect to see what's out and the Cubs come calling with a nice offer (that means he stays in Chicago)? I can't see him doing that...not only would he hurting his Sox legacy, but then he'd be going to the Cardinals main rival as well.

Balta, I think you misunderstood the comment from Henry. The "team" that Theo has talked to is the Cubs, not someone else.

Offseason Plans
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) Danks to TX for Martin Perez P and Profar SS. Since Profar is stuck behind Elvis. To get Perez and Profar, we'd probably have to include Viciedo and Sale with Danks. Profar is a top 3 prospect in all of baseball now.

2011 ALCS: Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) He also admitted that Avila is hurting that he probably did it by playing him too much this season. As much as I'm rooting against Tigers, I'm rooting for them to play a lot of postseason games because of the effect it could have on them to start next year.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) You give Verlander enough of it, and he'll pitch every single game the rest of the postseason. Could you imagine the reaction if Ron Washington said the Rangers were going to try and get through their game with Wilson and Coke?

"sometimes you need a rally beer"
I love the quote about PK worrying about something to happen in the 8th inning during the 3rd inning.

Sox Underdogs Again, Just What They Needed
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 06:39 PM) True. One thing is for sure. They better win big cause without Ozzie there are no headlines, no buzz in this city about the White Sox at all. Jerry seems to have no sense of urgency, just telling KW to "think outside the box with no retreads." This might sound dumb, but I'd have taken the Theo/Tito combo on the southside WAY OVER KW/Robin. If you think the headlines of Ozzie acting like an idiot were good for the organization and/or the fan base, then you are so wrong. Maybe it's cause you don't live in Chicago and it's hard for you to understand how the locals feel, but Ozzie's "act" grew old to everyone in the city a few years ago.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) With their pitching problems someone like Cashner could be a target too. Cashner is so overrated, IMO. From the sound of it, his shoulder will never allow him to be a starter.

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) That's a reasonable match for them since Boston has Gonzalez and Youk doesn't belong at third, but the Cubs aren't exactly starting with a lot of chips to move. I struggle to see how that would happen without Starlin. Sean Marshall (if the Red Sox think they can turn him back into a starter)

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Despite his hits on Lester, Pedroia, and Youk...it's not unfair to say that the reason he has rings is the Manroid deal and the fact that the Twins gave up on Ortiz. Theo isn't magic. The thing to watch now is how they fill that 1b spot. I could see him trying to trade for Youkilis

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) I think I'd have somehow talked myself into loving PK as player/manager. I'm happy it didn't happen, as I would hate to eventually dislike my favorite Sox player of all time

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Steve, Angelo is okay at drafting, his problem is that either he gets it right or completely misses. You can live with that as long as you supplant your team with free agents. Maybe like five years ago. His draft record the last few years is horrible

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I supported the Robin decision, but come on coach...act like you want the job! He answered Chuck Garfein's question about what did KW see in him to make him the manager with the following quote "I don't know Chuck".

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 02:51 AM) The sad part is that this is about as good as Cutler has played with the Bears. Agreed...this offensive system and the pathetic OL makes it so hard for this offense to generate points. Oh well...maybe they'll get to face some 3rd string QBs the rest of the way.
