Anyone see the NBC Sports Sunday feature on KW? A few interesting things to take from it, including KW saying that Ozzie needs to stop talking about being fired, as well as that KW seems to be winding down on his career as a GM.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 10, 2010 -> 03:50 AM) Wow the Suns sweep the Spurs, every game was pretty close but San Antonio just could never get the big bucket or the big stop when they needed it. Duncan, Ginobili, and Jefferson look old out there. Tony Parker is also the guard version of Carlos Boozer. He never passes.
-
Putting Thornton in the pen is also a good audition for next season. If for some reason he can't perform in that role, better to know now than after being given the job to start 2011.
-
I can't believe that Joe Morgan said that Frank Robinson is most underrated superstar of all time. I was sure he was going to say it was a white player.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 10, 2010 -> 02:23 AM) I actually wouldn't mind at all Santos in that role. He has been dominant this season and is probably the guy for the future. If he got a chance and failed. I wouldn't be angry. Reminds me of 2005 when people questioned if Jenks was ready for the role. At some point, stuff is just so overwhelming it can succeed in any role.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 10, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) mmmm I can't wait to see more of Raaaaaaaaandy in games since everyone wants Thorton to close. s***, he won't even get any chances to close cause we'll only have one other reliable guy in the pen with Serg. Wait, you're saying we're wrong cause we want to see our best reliever be the closer?

QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2010 -> 02:15 AM) There's a chance that it could be Putz as the 1st option because he's a non lefty veteran. And if he succeeds, could make a good trade chip in 2 months.

Doesn't seem like Bobby is too happy with possibly being removed. It will be interesting if we go with Thornton as the closer, because it would be similar to how the Cubs moved Marmol to closer. When that happens, the 7th/8th innings you used to take for granted become a lot more difficult. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5175927

Dallas Braden (Oakland) Throws A Perfect Game vs Tampa Bay

Wow, suck it ARod! -
QUOTE (knightni @ May 9, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) Replacing Jenks as the closer was a year overdue. But, Ozzie to his credit/detriment is a loyal guy. So guys like Timo, Jenks, Kotsay, etc. have jobs longer than some people think that they deserve. I don't fault Ozzie one second for keeping Jenks as the closer, as he hadn't blown a save yet.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) 1. I'm a White Sox fan and I come here to post in game threads to follow and SUPPORT the team I cheer for. 2. I don't enjoy sitting here and telling you how dumb you are for being upset, I'm upset with this teams performance as well but I don't sit here stating the obvious how Gordon Beckham or Mark Kotsay suck, instead I rather remain optimistic and hope they figure it out soon. There are poster, that no matter if this team is winning or losing, come to game threads to spit in player faces. 3. I realize you're a retired Mod and been here around longer than most us, that's why it is surprising to see the lack of objectivity. There's no one on this board that hopes Beckham turns it around more than I do. When we say he's playing terrible, it's with the hope that he turns it around. That's not true with all players, as there's guys we say suck, such as Williams, with the belief that he needs to be released.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) This team wasn't going to win the division. It needed a whole lot of "ifs" to win this division. With that said, no excuse for it to not be an above .500 team. That's not going to happen when you have about 1/5 of your roster playing to their potential.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 9, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) In other news, every Rios AB seems to be successful, and Quentin ripped the ball today. IF we can get Beckham to move down the order and find his swing, and keep Teahen hitting, who knows. Not to nitpick, as I'm happy with the way Quentin looked. But "keep Teahen hitting"? Huh?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) So...let me get this right...you think our 2b/SS combo is the worst in baseball history after 1.5 months...but yet you can immediately come up with another combo that is nearly as bad. In other words, you think 2 of the worst combos in baseball history are happening right now. Out of 110 years of baseball...2b/ss combos this bad have never ever been seen. You see why I'm ridiculing that a bit? You're right, I should have not had the hyperbole and just said I don't know how you could have a 2b/ss playing worse.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) I am f***ing pissed beyond belief. Why, today's action wasn't the worst thing to happen. We obviously need a bad outing by Jenks to get him removed from the closer spot. If the season is a waste anyways, the sooner we can start developing a new closer, the better.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Yeah...this comment makes you look intelligent! With their performance this season....yes, I don't know how it can be worse. The Cards 2b/ss combo sucks, but at least they play good D.
-
Someone should tell Oney that the main reason Jenks was released by the Angels was cause he was an uncontrollable asshole.
-
Alexei continuing his amazing game. We have to have the worst 2b/SS combination in the history of baseball.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Kenny might as well start the fire sale soon since it's obvious this team won't even remotely be a contender. Just wait until after this road trip, that's when the fun will start.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) I guarantee you Ozzie will continue to use him as our closer to "get his confidence back" or some bulls***. If he does, it's just another reason he needs to get fired. Nice 3-4 home stand, I've never seen a bullpen that's worse in tight situations than this one.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) so who's the new closer? Thornton
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) Well, the offense sucks, the starting pitching sucks, the bullpen sucks. That's not a good combination. Plain and simple, this team isn't very good outside of Rios, Konerko, Jones, Danks, and Thornton. Hopefully Peavy can join that group as well.
-
So happy we brought Jenks back this offseason, this past offseason looks worse every single f***ing day.
-
And that's the last we'll ever see of him as the closer. Jenks, you are an absolutely awful pitcher now. Go find your curve, or you'll be out of baseball in 3 years.
-
Nice hanger by Jenks there. Ugh, Jenks is sooooo awful!
