QUOTE (nastymasty21 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:55 AM) id pinch hit nix Agreed, I don't get why we're letting the pitcher bat.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:50 AM) Paulie is one of the best in the game at picking errant throws out of the dirt. He definitely saves us some runs with that ability. All 1B are good at that it seems now. Gone are the days of Frank Thomas playing 1B.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:49 AM) BTW i'd like to note its a real shame we couldn't get Santos his first win. Two very encouraging things tonight: Santos looked great and Gavin was well ahead of how he looked to start last season.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:47 AM) So you are saying 1st baseman don't really need range, right? In which case, Paulie is pretty good than? I'd say he's better than most but his lack of range keeps him out of the well above average to elite category. No, I was being sarcastic. His range is mediocre given his athletic ability issues. That grounder by Hafner was a play that he needed to try and get his body in front of.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:44 AM) everybody needs to shut up about paulie's D. he's one of the best in the league. Range is a very overrated defensive ability 1st basemen need

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:44 AM) I doubt there was anything Quentin could have done. That was a crazy bounce. The ball hit the side of part of the fence and shot to the side. Bigger issue was that after throwing the slider on the outside, they then went with the outside fastball. Thornton's so much better when he throws the high fastball.

Konerko's poor effort in not getting his body in front of the ball cost us.

Someone should tell Hawk that this umpire has been quite Sox friendly tonight.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:32 AM) that's why pierre steals on the first pitch, then if you desperately want to bunt, bunt him to 3rd. I have no CLUE why you'd bunt a speedster from 1st to 2nd while taking the bat out of the hands of one of our best hitters. Yep, you might as well have Jim Thome leading off if you're going to have Beckham bunt in those situations.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:29 AM) Carlos shuts some people up!!! And makes me look smart!!! I don't know how anyone wouldn't think Beckham and Quentin are the two Sox hitters who have potential to be above average.

Horrible, horrible approach with RISP. It's sickening how many hitters are having their head come flying out.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 01:50 AM) Then wtf was the point of all that "Speed"? It's not like we're significantly faster than we were to end last year when Dye was out of the lineup.

Hitters acting like they've never seen a slider. We got 2 gifts that inning, and only get one.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) Would his team be winning if the ump wasn't missing calls though? Yeah, ump didn't blow any calls to Brantley or Sizemore.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) Lol, not only was that ball 4 to CQ a strike right down the middle, but thats a pitch Quentin should and can hit 450 feet. Well said, along with the first pitch to Beckham.
