  1. Yankees took the lead, 2-1. It's pretty fun rooting for them.
  2. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) And we'll see Wise getting time behind Konerko at first. LOL. Nix or Toby Hall
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) If the Yanks help us out today we are still 1.5 games back which is an awesome way to start the 2nd half. Call me Peter Possitive but were still in great shape going forward. Yeah Getz needs to improve his baseball IQ, Alexie needs to stop his double clutch and Beckham needs to continue to bend it. But lets face it, we have 3 infielders who are playing at their respective positions for the first time at the MLB level. The 3 of them are on the learning curve together which is very rare. With CQ being out and for us to be where were at is amazing. If KW could pull a rabbit out of his hat and bring us a Halladay type w/o giving up the farm its our division to win. I agree with everything but the last sentence. It's not like he's going to be able to fleece the Blue Jays.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) He's a one pitch pitcher with no command, and that one pitch, is apparently only a slightly above average 92 mph fastball. He looks like a future loogy to me. He'll be traded by next April, that's my prediction.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) I really do believe that Colon will replace Poreda, and CQ will replace BA. BA can't be sent down with Ozzie saying Quentin will be replaced for defensive reasons. I have a feeling it will be Fields that is sent down.
  6. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) We're now going on nearly 4 years without a major league-caliber starting center fielder. But I am confident that one of these days -- and maybe even before 2017 -- Kenny Williams will aggressively fill that spot. (Provided that, you know, "the market" will make that possible.) We'll likely have to go through the growing pains with Jordan Danks out there soon, and I can't wait to see people freak out when he strikes out in 30 pct of his ABs while showing little power.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) The two walks and now 8 in 11 innings are exactly why he should be in the bullpen. He wouldn't last 4 innings regularly as a starter until he figures something else out. And it's not like he's just missing the corners.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) So Ozzie is an idiot for not using Poreda and an idiot for using him. This was the exact opportunity I was talking about in a different thread where Poreda would have an opportunity to earn Ozzie's trust. Sorry, getting guys out in AA is a lot different than getting them out in the majors. In fact, Poreda would have an ugly ERA if he were in the position a lot of people want him to be in, that being in the rotation. He had a chance today and walked both guys he faced. I'm all for ripping Ozzie setting guys up to fail, but 2 batters 2 walks, that's on Poreda. He should have never been promoted. I know for a fact that Beckham was promoted as a power struggle between KW and Ozzie, but I have no idea why Poreda was promoted. If anything, the stint in the majors has hurt his trade value while potentially hurting his development. All you had to do is look at his walk numbers and pitches per innings in the minors to see that he wouldn't cut it up here.
  9. What is our starting pitchers' ERA at now? Seems like it's probably gone up .25 points or so in the last 7 games.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) The last 30 days or so, the Sox offense is ranked #1 in just about every major category. So there is still a chance. I wonder what the Sox record is the past couple of seasons for 3 game series in which they won the first 2. Its almost automatic they lose. Being at the game yesterday, it was amazing how every hitter seems to be on fire over the last 30 games or so. Oh, and sitting in the right field stands, it makes you realize just how slow Jermaine is. Mora's flyball in the 9th was ridiculous.
  11. QUOTE (Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) Why are people praising Ozzie for this move with Poreda? This was a terrible move and Ozzie just sticking it to the fans media, I cant wait for him to tout Wise lone HR for plugging him in today either. Ozzie is the mental midget, he slams the kid in the media, never plays him. Then says I'll show you and puts in a situation to fail. I dont know many rookies who would succeed in that situation at all. That was seriously classless indeed, and it show that Ozzie Guillen could never handle a youth movement because he always has to prove something to these "kids" always trying to tear them down. I kind of feel the way he treats BA, Fields, the other young players through the years has been terrible and has done more harm, mentally, physically.... then good. We are just lucky that Beckham is such a sure thing and confidence in abundance that Ozzie dumb comments couldn't even dent him. I love this post. The fact he left him in to face Reimold was proof to me that he was sticking it to the fans.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) THAT is probably the run we'll lose by. Doubtful, as these players seemed out of it from the first pitch today.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Carrasco is so bad too. Give me Nunez and Link please over Poreda and Carrasco. Yeah, Carrasco can burn innings, but he floats s***ty breaking pitches us to the plate like it's BP. Man our relief has sucked recently. Link has been TERRIBLE in the minors recently.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) f***ing getz I'm so unimpressed by his baseball IQ.
  15. Getz, you are so foolish! That's a terrible play by a terrible defender. That was the worst inning of the season.
  16. Ho hum, another hanging pitch by Carrasco. Has anyone noticed how high his ERA has ballooned up to?
  17. This is a carbon copy of that Indians game we lost prior to the ASB. Have to have that killer instinct and sweep these teams at home.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) Wow, I don't know what people still see in Poreda over Porcello. The guy is pretty awful. I understand if you're nervous or you have great stuff but bad control. This guy cannot find the strike zone. He's alot closer to throwing a wild pitch than a strike, each time he throws. And that last at bat, he almost did. If we lose 4-3, you could blame Poreda for this loss. Contreras didn't have it today, but he battled. Poreda looked like he was playing for the other team. no one saw anything in Poreda over Porcello
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Point proven. AP was afraid of the plate. Is this a surprise? He was afraid of the plate in the minors.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Well maybe if Ozzie didn't bash him earlier, the kid would have more confidence in himself. That's what pisses me off about Ozzie, he criticizes his own players to the media way too much. There is no need for that type of stuff. It pissed me off to see him pat himself on the back yesterday for Beckham's success.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Poreda has to get in the rotation. We'd see Carassco in the 2nd inning. The sooner people realize he's basically Neal Cotts V2.0, and not Matt Thorton V2.0, the quicker they'll pray he's dealt while he still has some value.
  22. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Aaron really helping his cause........ I don't blame Ozzie, Poreda is nothing like what he was billed as.
  23. Why in the f*** did Ozzie leave him in to face Reimold? Poreda needs to be on a plane back to Charlotte TONIGHT!
  24. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) I know some will say Guillen shouldn't have brought him into this situation, but Poreda was nowhere near the zone that AB. He's not helping himself out. Every pitching opportunity has to be taken advantage of. Quite simply, he's just awful right now. His stuff blows, and he has no control at all.
  25. It's like Ozzie is using this opportunity to prove his point he made yesterday.
