  1. MLB Network showed the 300 homer back-to-back on their highlights for the first half.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) Title IX is a joke and needs to go. Awesome! Couldn't agree more, when I worked in the Athletic Department for a big-time Division I school, it's ridiuclous the impact it has on everyone.
  3. Every year, I try to make a thread like this at the All-Star Break and at the end of the season. This season has been pretty bland, all things considered. Here's my top 5: 5: Thome's 3 run homer on opening day against Kansas City 4: The Sunday game in Milwaukee featuring Buehrle's homer, AJP's clutch single, and the first "Hell Yes" 3: Jenks getting Span to hit into a double play to end Saturday's game in Minnesota 2: Dye and Konerko going back-to-back to both hit their 300th home run 1: Gordon Beckham's walk-off single against the Cubs
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) The Nick Massett who owns a 2.29 ERA and .91 WHIP this year with only 1 HR given up in a hitters park? After we traded him he put up a 2.08 ERA as well in 2008. He wasnt all hype. Cooper's philosophy of less velocity and more command works with a lot of guys. Nick isn't one of them, as he's airing it out for the Reds and throws some pretty filthy stuff. His fastball is in the 95 mph range with a lot of movement.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 05:53 AM) I sure hope not. I really think this club has a chance to be one of the more complete ballclubs we've had in a long time. We have the usual mashers in Dye, Thome and Paulie, and even more so if CQ can come back relatively healthy. We have some slap hitters in Podsednik and Getz, and some line drive hitters in Alexei, AJ, and Beckham. I really like how the offense in balanced. The pitching staff, despite our recent troubles, is fairly loaded with Danks, Floyd, Mark and Jose. The bullpen is close to as solid as any in the league. I really think they just need some more time. To me, this club is head and shoulders above where it was 2 months ago, and I'd like to see this talent play out a bit. Sure, the role players may change a bit, and we may see a difference-maker added, but I honestly really like where this club is headed. Give them more time. I agree with this...it's just a matter of getting CQ back and finding someone to keep us in games from the 5th starter spot.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Depends on the price. He made $12 million last year. THe cubs cant really afford more than a few million right now. They'd have to pay him league minimum. Tribune's reporting that the Cubs are definitely interested.
  7. That was sick control by Franklin in the 9th!
  8. Looks like Cubs got a break, as Reed Johnson trapped that ball. Tough call though
  9. The top of the 9th in this game has been crazy, with Piniella putting Marshall into LF for a batter and then Johnson with a stumbling catch. Have to hope the momentum doesn't carry over into the bottom of the inning.
  10. Are you aware that Toronto is apparently asking for Clay Bucholz for Scott Rolen?
  11. I like these threads, but of all organizations, we should know that prospects don't always pan out. I'll say right now that I bet either Mitchell or JorDanks won't make it as an everyday starter with the Sox.
  12. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 02:05 AM) Is he? I never heard that. He always looked pretty good to me whenever I saw him play in previous years. Even though he's having a bad year this season, looking at his stats he'd still be an improvement for the Sox. If he really is a bad character guy as you say, then I wouldn't want any part of him. But I don't know that to be true. Yes, he's got character issues and rarely hustles.
  13. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 02:58 AM) Rios is pretty good and the Sox have money coming off the books the next couple of years. And Halliday gives the Sox a real shot at the WS once they win the crappy division. And we tie ourselves up with these contracts, how do we extend Danks and Quentin, etc?
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:41 AM) As overrated as Rios is, I would love to see him on this team. His contract is awful!
  15. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:27 AM) That's what I fear as well. The last thing we need is a singles-hitting base clogger in the middle of the lineup who is also a liability in the field. I'd like to see the Sox take a financial risk and trade for Halliday, Rolen and Rios. Rolen adds a solid bat and OBP to the lineup while improving the defense at third base and allows Beckham to move to 2B where he belongs. Rios solves the CF hole this year because even his sub-par performance so far this season is much better than Anderson/Wise and he's probably going to revert back to form at some point in the future giving the Sox a solid outfielder for the next few years. With the salary coming off the books the next couple of years, the Sox could probably afford to pay these three, and by taking on their contracts should be able to pry them away from the Blue Jays without giving up any of their "untouchables". Put down the XBox....and if you really think they'd just give up those 3 guys for none of the Sox main guys, that's just silly.
  16. Gillies also seemed like a great person
  17. Holmberg off to a tough start.
  18. Judging by your K rate, how does it feel to throw an invisible baseball?
  19. Flowers had a really impressive at bat. His swing looks like he'll be able to mash LHP.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) I understand we are kind of stuck with him there for the rest of this year, but unless some sort of drastic change occurs, I don't think we can keep Gordon Beckham at 3rd base after 2009. His bat isn't as valuable over there, and his fielding looks awful. I understand he's never played there before this year and is trying to learn at the major league level, but he has very poor reaction times on hard hit balls to him, and I'm not sure if that is something you can teach. Couldn't agree more
  21. If the Sox lose ground after the homestand and the series at Detroit, KW has got to go into sell mode.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Well, I don't mind making a run at it this year as long as Gordo stays. If it means we deal Jenks, then so be it. We'd be one hell of a ballclub with that rotation, this bullpen, and this offense... Yeah, the bullpen without Jenks could be scary unless Linebrink avoids his usual 2nd half meltdown.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Yeah, saw that in your last post that said "He had a plane to AZ to catch." In other notes, I wouldn't mind dealing Jenks to get the prospects to get Halladay, but I want no part of any trade that includes Gordo... Ugh, Halladay just scares me due to only one year left on his deal. It's highly unlikely JR and KW could match huge offers he'd get after 2010. For the amount we'd have to give up, one year and a few months of Roy just isn't worth it.
  24. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Jesus Christ, I stopped watching for a minute, and they explode for 5 runs....and Beckham made ANOTHER error? And he made a bad decision on another that wasn't called an error.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) He had a plane to catch. Lisa Stone got arrested for holding up a Taco Bell.
