Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 03:24 AM) How bad is that? Georgia was a bad 4-4 team, with some pretty bad losses. They're awful. Only two players, Thompkins and Leslie, that should be playing high-major basketball.

Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 02:07 AM) This just in: The SEC is to college basketball what the ACC is to college football....A complete embarassment. And the worst team in the SEC just beat one of the Big 10's best.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) The Mariners interest stems from them wanting to trade Carlos Silva for Bradley. I don't care how s***ty Bradley is in the clubhouse, getting rid of the Silva deal would be phenomenal. Yep, Silva actually has more money left on his deal than Bradley does.

Projected Sox Batting Order
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) pierre-Beckham-Damon-Q-Kong-Teahen-Rios-AJ-Alexei? Ozzie is going to want Alexei batting 6th or 7th this season. Teahen is a better bet to bat 9th.

Hank Blalock
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Texas players have at times been associated with peds. I'd pass. He's supposed to be very hard to coach.

Projected Sox Batting Order
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Damon DH Beckham 2B Quentin RF Konerko 1B Rios CF AJP C Teahen 3B Alexei SS Pierre LF Congrats Rock on making this place damontalk.com for the next day or so. I also can't see Ozzie not having Pierre leadoff. If anything, Damon would be batting 3rd. For the amount of money he's likely asking for, you might be better off going after more of a slugging type of outfielder (and I know Damon hit a lot of homers last year, but that park was perfect for him).

Panic! At the Soxtalk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 05:31 AM) We need one more power bat. If we don't get one, hopefully A. Jones is gonna work out all winter with something to prove. We need to sign Manny Alexander ASAP!

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 05:29 AM) For all your old timers out there, Brian Downing was a pretty good leadoff hitter and he didn't fit the mold. Exactly, so tell your best friend Ozzie that a fast, slappy leadoff guy isn't always necessary.

Panic! At the Soxtalk
It's pretty simple...if the 2010 don't make the playoffs, then either KW or Ozzie should be fired. With the way KW is talking, he's putting this all on Ozzie.

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 02:53 AM) According to Scott Merkin, as reported earlier, it seems like Ozzie talked KW out of adding a power bat and they will rotate the DH. I'm pretty sure KW is just waiting for this to blow up in Ozzie's face and then will add a DH midseason. This gets dumber by the day

AGon discussion, et. al.
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) I'd like the farm system to be strong too, but its plain old silly to not see that one of the reasons you want a strong farm, is for this sort of acquisition to be possible. I'll take two years of that guy over a handful of very good prospects almost any day, and I don't see any Sox propsects I wouldn't give up in the deal. The reason is because we have maybe 4 or 5 good players in our farm system, and the rest is absolute junk. When you look at our roster, we have a handful of players that are likely on their way out in a year or two. Since we're never competitive in the FA market, there's going to have to be guys like Flowers and Viciedo that step into a starting role.

Top Ten Worst Sox of the Decade
Alex Rios (SO FAR). That's for my buddy jphat. But yeah, Lillibridge and Paniagua are the worst offensive and pitching performers this decade.
-
AGon discussion, et. al.
At this point, I absolutely don't want the Sox to acquire AGon. It would cost way too much with regards to prospects (our farm is thin enough as it is), and then he'd get a monster deal after two seasons. Let Boston get him...they have the money and prospects to make it happen and not have to turn the organization upside-down.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) Brace yourself, there will be all kinds of old white men yelling at the TV this season: "Turn that damn hat straight". And we have the best post of this thread!!

sox close to another deal?
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:12 AM) I don't see us getting AGon without giving up PK in some weird three way situation. You say that like it's a bad thing.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:19 AM) Is Ozzie really willing to live with a lineup like that? He has slappy leading off now. I guarantee we lead the AL in sac bunts this season.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:54 AM) I find it bizarre that with each move the Sox make, they get a little better, and yet the posts in PHT get more and more over-the-top mad. I'd think it would be the reverse. Weird. We do still need one more bat upgrade, at DH or elsewhere, though. And a backup C, though I think we have options in house for that which I'd be fine with. What happens with that extra bat, though, I think will give us the best picture of the offseason overall. Go back and look at the reaction to the trade before KW/Ozzie said they wanted to rotate DHs and then after. It's when our GM and Manager say we're done making moves to improve our offense is when people start to get worried (besides jphat, who just hates Rios anyways).

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) your crazy dude scotty pods carried this team on his back for parts of last year pierre had just as many steals as him in less action overall i think we dont lose anything by signing him and i think it will turn out to be a good move for us overall Pods was great last year...he was underrated last year after being overrated during his first tenure here.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
I can't believe I failed to mention this earlier, and I put it in the other thread, but Terry Boers said today that there's no way Thome is back with the Sox next year. He's generally in the know with Sox personnel issue.
-
sox close to another deal?
Forgot to mention earlier that according to Terry Boers' "guy" with the Sox, the Sox want nothing to do with Thome being back in 2010.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Pierre sucks. This trade sucks. The way the Sox have spent their money sucks. Ozzie's rotation of crappy players for a DH sucks. This whole offseason sucks. We're not a National League ballclub and we do not play in a pitcher's paradise. The trade is fine as long as there's another move coming.
-
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
Don't get me wrong, if we're just going to go with Kotsay/Jones at DH, then by all means, sign Thome for 2 million dollars.
-
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:14 AM) Then why not sign Thome for a third or a half of the price? Because he's not Godzilla? Matsui hit .282 against LHP and .271 against RHP last season. Thome hit .209 against LHP and .262 against RHP last season. Matsui also hit 50 points higher with RISP, and doesn't seem to injure himself every time he runs out a ground ball.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Nothing wrong with a rotating DH to keep guys fresh, just make sure we are talking about starting caliber players being a part of this combo. The Angels have excelled with this approach over the years, but they also aren't running a bunch of s*** out there either. That's a great point. It's like when teams try to go Closer-by-committee. That works great when you have the Nasty Boys and have talented performers. It doesn't work so good when you have a bunch of mediocre players in the committee.
