The first Gusgasm of the season, as A.J. Price with a nasty 3 to tie just a fantastic game. -
What was his inherited runners/scored from last season?

There were some major drug issues for Indiana when they were at the Sears Centre for that tourney last November. I can't believe that they bring in a former drug dealer/gang member in J. Ellis, and everything went to hell! -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 02:51 AM) I saw that Steve, but Pax doesn't make significant moves, you know that as well as I do. And fathom, GT isn't winning a title with their current head coach. I am still amazed they made a title game with Hewitt, and that is a good trio, but I'm sure there will be others around the country in 2010. That would be next year's trio, and Favors is better than any freshman in the country right now. You know I hate Hewitt more than anyone, but those 3 might be too good for him to undercoach.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 02:48 AM) Lawal isn't going to be there when the Bulls pick. The word is starting to get out on him, and that will only happen more if he continues to perform in ACC play as most of us would expect he will. Lawal's nowhere near as good as his numbers suggest. He's still very mechanical on offense, as he has no idea how to pass or handle double teams. He's also a mediocre post defender. He's a smart player though who's very athletic. Don't get me started on his FT shooting. BTW, the rumor is he's told D. Favors he's staying another year to try and win a championship at GT. With a trio of Shumpert/Lawal/Favors, that would be as good as there is in the country.

When Jenks had his plus plus fastball, he was able to fool a lot more hitters with his curveball. Last year, it seemed a lot of hitters were able to lay off the curve because they weren't as geared up for the fastball. I'll gladly take the Jenks for the 2005 World Series that could throw it by anyone, and would like to see his average fastball rise into the 95-96 mph range again.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) Sox are shopping Jenks - Cards need a closer Cards are shopping Ankiel - Sox need a CF And Ankiel is a Boras client heading into his FA year.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) Why? I love Bobby, but he's not untouchable. He'd made a comment in jest, and i played the advocate. Why can't we discuss this? You don't trade someone like Jenks for prospects. You trade him for Major League ready players.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) If you can give me a really good Class AA CF for a closer i might consider it. Oh stop

Might want to cross Brian Giles off the wish list

The Giles brothers are a disgrace to baseball. They're two of the more obvious steroid users over the last decade. -

Clubtrillion is about to explode, as Bill Simmons is on the bandwagon and made significant mention of it today in his B.S. Report as he interviewed him today. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 04:48 AM) He could be. He has the talent, coming off of ONE bad year is reducing his value a little, but the kid could easily be our starting SS. I do agree that he could be a starter. However, I'd be shocked if Alexei is moved to CF.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 04:27 AM) While i don't think we can discount Anderson leading off it becomes a necessity. I'm in the Lillibridge leading off with BA in the 9 hole camp. Do you get royalties every time you suggest Lillibridge is a starter?

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 05:28 AM) Apparently there is still a mystery team for Furcal, over at mlbtraderumors.com. I have no idea if its us, doesnt make sense in a lot of ways, but does at the same time. He would fill the SS/2nb/CF base dilemma and leadoff spot yet KW says Alexei is the SS, and that the payroll is already over budget. Signing Furcal does open a lot of options though, do you keep Alexei at 2nd, or do you move him to CF and put Getz at 2nd, or put Anderson in CF? Lots of options, but I dont see a four year deal for him from us. Mystery team is Braves

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 04:48 AM) its not a big signing and will get chance compete with the rest of the team. And you know this how?

Haven't found a good video of it, but Syracuse lost to Cleveland State on a 60 footer at the buzzer. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 05:08 AM) I don't know if it's inexcuseable, but I do know that it's not a playoff team. We BARELY made the playoffs last season, and the team has got worse this offseason and I think the division will at least be a little better. If that's the lineup KW plans on having, he might as well trade Dye for any prospects he can find and get rid of guys like Dotel. Like you said, we barely won a down division last season and don't look to have improved at all. However, I'm hopeful that KW is playing us for fools and we'll actually try and compete this season.

QUOTE (tommy @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 05:05 AM) Lets say Getz wins 2B out of spring training. Ozzie said he is batting 9th. That is why Jerry Owens will start over BA, because Jerry Owens is a leadoff hitter, BA is not. Of course one trade could change all of this but as we stand and what I can say from this article this is 2009 lineup: Owens CF AJP C Quentin LF Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS Fields 3B Getz 2B Really inexcusable to have this lineup combined with our likely 4/5 of Richard and Marquez. That's all that needs to be said.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) Josh Mayo of UIC might be the 2nd best non-BCS guard in the country right now. Just an amazing shooter, he's actually been more accurate than Curry this year I believe. At the same time, it AMAZES me Georgia Tech got to a national title game under Paul Hewitt. He's a fantastic recruiter, but he couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He's NCAA Basketball Ron Zook. Yep, he's a terrible coach. That GT team that made it to the title had a fantastic player and leader in Jarrett Jack. Hewitt supposedly will get one more year after this season, especially if he lands Favors like everyone is expecting. He's had so much turnover in the program over the last 4 years with players going pro early, injuries, and academic casualties. -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 02:59 AM) Johnny Estrada was non-tendered by the Mets. He was a good-hitting catcher a couple years ago, does he suck now? Yes...bad hitter, terrible defensively, and a horrible clubhouse person.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) I understand he was hurt, but why if he was a banged up as KW said, did they call him up? Why not get him fixed right away? Because they wanted to trade him, but then Crede went and got injured prior to the trade deadline.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) I agree, but apparently KW can't afford him. He's already over budget. It must have dropped because when he traded Javy, he said he was right at it. Yeah, I'm really puzzled about the finances of the Sox right now. Everything we're hearing is very disturbing.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) Kenny said he was a little over budget as we stand right now, then brought up "creativity" again, referring to the Lee for Vizcaino and Pods deal and mentioning that it allowed them to also sign AJ and El Duque. Just off the top of my head, Dye makes $11.5M next year. If the Sox could trade him for Bailey and a prospect ($500K), then sign Daniel Cabrera for $4M, Juan Rivera for $4M, Willy Taveras for $2M, and a back of the pen reliever like Luis Ayala for $1M, would you do that trade? It would essentially be Dye for Bailey, Cabrera, Rivera, Taveras, Ayala, and a prospect in a salary wash. The roster is at 37 now, so adding that many players would put us at 41, however Jose Contreras would be transferred to the DL, and if necessary Owens and/or Broadway could be cut (although I'd prefer both of them cut because they make my skin crawl). That would be a waste of 10 million dollars. Daniel Cabrera is terrible, and he's a huge injury risk!
