  1. There's that clutch homer!
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) Walker owns that call. If that's the case, I can't believe he didn't deliver after that amazing BP session a few days ago. Has BP replaced the Arizona Fall League as the ultimate decision maker for the Sox organization?
  3. Hell of a start by Clayton. Good job, easily the bright spot of this forgettable series.
  4. QUOTE (G&T @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Betemit doesn't have any better chance than Fields. Couldn't disagree more when facing a RHP. Hell, Betemit's one of our 5 best hitters against RHP, it's just he'll never get a chance. Doubles hitters are bad, I know.
  5. Well, Ozzie's officially not trying to win games anymore. There's no excuse in the world to not bring Betemit in to hit for Fields. It's amazing how well he's handled our pitchers this year, and how comically bad he's been with offensive strategy.
  6. Really should PH Betemit for Fields here if you want to win.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) my rationale is that the offense isn't going to "snap" out of it and start averaging six runs per game. it's going to take time. until then, the pitching has to keep it a low scoring game so we can win a few 3-2, 4-3 type games, get the winning vibe going again. If they're buried early by 4 or 5 runs, it's over. I don't think we have the confidence to win a low scoring game right now. Even Joey Cora and Josh Fields confirmed that on Saturday.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) AJ has been the complete opposite of a disciplined hitter in his career
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) quality pitching is the only way out of this funk How so? We're getting quality pitching today (and did Saturday), and we still couldn't win (assuming we lose today). It's real simple: this offense is on its way to have an underachieving performance of epic proprotions.
  10. Here's the biggest issue: there's no f***ing accountability for this. No one loses their job, either players or coaches. If you do bad, you get the ultimate punishment of sitting TWO GAMES. If we lose this game, there better be a huge shake-up with the roster. Send someone down and make them an example, as it's obvious the coaching staff has immunity for life.
  11. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) My excuse for him, I'd like to see him get consistent at-bats at a position he has played before. I'll keep up the excuses. You think the fact he cost his team a run and mostly likely the game is wearing on him now? No, I like Nix. It's just crazy how much better his ABs seem to be than the others, and on almost every other team in baseball, he'd be the weak link.
  12. It's amazing how we can't hit a homer in an important spot basically all year since Game 1.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) He might, but why have your entire bullpen filled with question marks? Trading a guy like Thornton who doesn't make a ton of money, for prospects unless they are sure fire top of the line guys makes no sense. Financial relief and the ability to redistribute funds with the others make sense, but hoping a prospect or 2 pans out to be just as good as the guy you traded is Elton Brand for Tyson Chandler. It really doesn't make sense. Yep, and if you put him as closer and succeeds, then you either give him an extension or you can get a hell of a lot more value for him if you deal him.
  14. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) You don't think a rebuild would see Link get a shot? Ugh, I'm not that high on him. Probably want to try him as a set-up man before anything else.
  15. It's sad we think Nix has had good ABs and his batting average is .222.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) I think you would want to keep Thornton around and probably Linebrink if Jenks is sent packing. Dotel is gone after this season. You can't have a horrible bullpen for the next several years and expect anything but tumbleweeds at USCF. Yep, you can't trade Thornton. You'd want to give him a shot as closer first.
  17. QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:23 PM) Well, I hope that this season is now seen as a rebuilding season. We can argue that it's early only so long. And with the team we have, I'm not holding out hope for a surge like last year. If we know it's a rebuilding season and we start seeing some of these exciting players from the minors, the season can hold some interest. We've been one of the worst teams in baseball for 2 of the last 3 years now. It's time to blow the core of the team up, and be grateful for the breaks of 2008.
  18. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) I'd hate to trade Big Bobby, but he has great value and we could get a nice haul for him (at least you'd think). Why not trade Jenks? He's going to be getting 10 mil plus per year soon, and there's no reason to have a lockdown closer when your team is rebuilding. The biggest thing about rebuilding is you can't be afraid to lose.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) I don't know why anyone would give up decent prospects for half a season of what the White Sox could give them. KW trying to go against the grain, screwed himself this past offseason. Dye could get you something (especially if Reds are involved). Jenks is the one he should really look to move.
  20. Getz has an OPS near .425 for May. It's scary how many players we have that legitimately should be sent down if they struggle for another week.
  21. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) What are the most runs scored in an inning by the White Sox where there has not been a home run hit? 2? Something going unnoticed this year is how down our power numbers are. Maybe that's why you're better off just loading up with a homer hitting team instead of trying to add speed players.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) I don't think they are going to be able to unload much. Not many teams are willing to take on money. I could see KW paying to get prospects.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) 1976,1978,1979,1984,1986,1987,1988,1989,1995,2007 I think are worse. This team is likely to finish with a worse record than 2007 if we start unloading people.
  24. Nice to see our stubborness to put Alexei in CF continues to hurt us. I can't believe Greg Walker will still have a job come tomorrow. Some person has to take the fall for this debacle of a start.
  25. Thankfully no Lillicurse. Still, someone explain to me why Betemit is even on the roster anymore?
