November 6, 200916 yr The true end of an era. Thank you for everything you done for this organization, Mr. Dye.
November 6, 200916 yr I still think that there's a chance that JD is brought back at about half the price to DH. If that doesn't happen, thanks for the memories, JD. One of the best FA signings in Sox history.
November 6, 200916 yr The buyout was never even a question, he wasn't going to get the option picked up. The real question is, did they immediately call him and work on negotiating a new, cheaper contract.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) The buyout was never even a question, he wasn't going to get the option picked up. The real question is, did they immediately call him and work on negotiating a new, cheaper contract. That is question #1 in my mind. Like I have said, if we can bring back Dye or Thome on a one year deal at about half of their previous dollars to DH, I do it. In Dye's case, he could even be a back up in RF for a day or two a week.
November 6, 200916 yr Well before we could bring him back for less, the old agreement had to be completed (by buyout) So the door is not closed yet

If our RF needs to be backed up once or twice a week by Dye then our OF is in big trouble.
November 6, 200916 yr I was told by a family friend of Dye's this morning that his first choice is to go play for Ron Washington and Texas.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) I was told by a family friend of Dye's this morning that his first choice is to go play for Ron Washington and Texas. S'Later then Mr Dye. The women of depaul will miss you.

November 6, 200916 yr This was just a formality. The Sox still have a window where they can bring back Dye at a discounted rate. The problem is at one point they'd have to offer him aribtration to continue negotiating with him (or at least I believe thats the case). Or am I mistaken?
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) I was told by a family friend of Dye's this morning that his first choice is to go play for Ron Washington and Texas. What is it with Ron Washington? Milton Bradley supposedly loved playing for him as well.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) S'Later then Mr Dye. The women of depaul will miss you. Haha...women from University of Texas>>>>>>>>>women from DePaul Edited November 6, 200916 yr by fathom
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Haha...women from University of Texas>>>>>>>>>women from DePaul Duh, just JD has spent alot of time with said women, just sayin.....
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) What is it with Ron Washington? Milton Bradley supposedly loved playing for him as well. Wash is just a really, cool guy. He's similiar to Ozzie in that he's a players manager. He lets the players control the clubhouse, while publically representing the team outside of it. He's one of the most respected guys in the game.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) Duh, just JD has spent alot of time with said women, just sayin..... I understand completely!
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) If our RF needs to be backed up once or twice a week by Dye then our OF is in big trouble. What? If Dye is at DH and occasionally in RF, that says to me our OF is doing well.
November 6, 200916 yr Thanks for everything JD. You had the first and last RBI's of the 2005 World Series. Good luck.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) I was told by a family friend of Dye's this morning that his first choice is to go play for Ron Washington and Texas. His first choice is to stay with the Sox, but he knows that isn't in the plans. So after that Ron Washington makes the most sense. He likes him from his days with the A's and well, Texas is a pretty damn good place to hit.
November 6, 200916 yr Amazing signing when it happened, but it needed to end. Dye put up one of the worst second halves of baseball I've ever seen. Will always be one of my favs though. Fun guy to watch, and he delivered when it counted!
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Fun guy to watch, and he delivered when it counted! Except for the second half of last year.
November 6, 200916 yr Truly an excellent player for the White Sox, too bad he had to fall off the cliff in the second half of this year.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) S'Later then Mr Dye. The women of depaul will miss you. Kincaid's?
November 6, 200916 yr None of us will forget 2005, especially the WS. But, it looks like it's time to move on. Let's hope something good comes of freeing up the cash.

The reports are that he becomes a free agent instantly.
