  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) Back when he was on the D-Backs Livan would go from throwing 80-85 MPH fastballs, to 65 MPH breaking balls. It was completely, befuddling to all the young hitters. The old hitters, however, called it batting practice. Except for the Cubs in the playoffs. That was the worst, best peformance in the history of sports.
  2. If the Cubs sign Rich Aurilia, will that get the front page on the Tribune today over Blago's arrest?
  3. Santo was on the radio today being his whiny self. The part that really pissed me off was when he said how bad he feels for people who get inducted after they die. Santo should go to IHOP and eat sugar-free pancakes and just go away.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) How do we know that the Braves wouldn't actually give up Hansen? I don't think we necessarily do, maybe they just wouldn't give up Hansen because of the other members involved in the deal. The Braves are refusing to even consider him in any deal for any player, according to my BA people.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) You know, sometimes it amazes me how much fans allow themselves to get caught up in believing the words that come out of Kenny's mouth. Trust me, I do my best not to. I know better than to believe him that Owens will start in CF for this team. I just think that with the recent trades of Swisher/Vazquez and Dye's possible trade, he's going to have some PR to do with the average Sox fan.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) For predicting something that doesn't happen, and won't happen? For establishing again why it's vital that KW shut up in the press and focus on improving this team for 2009. He's done enough for the long term health of this organization, but there's holes to fill for this current team.
  7. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) The sox need to compete every year for the division. Sox fans aren't going to wait for a 3 year building project. If they go that route, the death-spiral will begin.....lower attendance leads to lower salary leads to lower attendance ..on and on until we're a "small market" team again. This is the best post in weeks.
  8. Peavy's a douchebag. I have no respect for players that sign an extension and then look to leave soon after. He's also too chickens*** to try and pitch in the AL.
  9. I had heard that the Sox were willing to offer 4/32 to OC
  10. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) Dumb signing by the Mets. Why, they should be thrilled. That's for fewer years and money than they thought they'd have to give up. I'd rather spend 12 mil per year on K-Rod than 8 on Fuentes or Wood.
  11. We're not getting Hanson or Heyward in a deal for Dye.
  12. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) The Kids Can Play Part II Ugh
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) I'm not saying that Bradley'll be a saint, It's just possible that a coach like Ozzie with a dominate personality could be exactly what Bradley needs to offset his own. Cubs are in intense discussions to get Milton Bradley. Mercy, that team is going to have a bunch of assholes in the locker room, but spectacular talent on the field.
  14. QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) If the Cubs get Jake Peavy for a song and the White Sox start the year with Jeff Marquez in the rotation and a clown car filled with Fields/Owens/Betemit/Nix/Getz, I am just going to snap. Me too, and it would be a huge PR hit for the organization. As they were saying on the radio today, the average fan understands giving up Swisher and Vazquez, but if they give up Dye for another prospect, then you'll start to hear more outrage.
  15. Yay, more KW talk about Jerry Owens in the leadoff spot. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7365624.story
  16. Santo's biggest fear: Michael Young is on the market.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:53 AM) Aren't the Cubs technically still owned by the Tribune Co.? Didn't the Tribune Co. file for Bankrupcy today? There seems to be something morally wrong with them adding millions to the payroll when some of their creditors won't be paid. Yep, the whole thing makes no sense.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:47 AM) We won a fancy trophy by curing a ton of hiccups a few years ago. I'll be honest, I think Bailey is definitely curable. Lillibridge is likely to be nothing more than a utility player. Marquez, on the other hand, scares the crap out of me.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:44 AM) So his 2008 trainwreck should be ignored. OK. Just a hiccup. Some big hiccups to forget with Lillibridge, Marquez, and possibly Bailey
  20. Since I'm lazier than s*** tonight, how old is Lillibridge?
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:42 AM) Should be funny watching him make an ass of himself in RF. That's definitely true...with that pitching staff, you should focus more on defense than offense.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:39 AM) Why are so many teams willing to help out the cubs? It really is pathetic. Basically it will cost any team that is not the cubs $24M more than the cubs to acquire him. I don't get it either. They're close to signing Ibanez also.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:31 AM) Sorry, I deleted the post, because yeah, it was kinda ludicrous. What I really mean is that there could be an interesting contrast between the All-Star lineup the Cubs'll bring with the Young Guns that the White Sox could have. I think we'll be competitive, yeah, but in no way was I equating the two. Sorry Gotcha, I'll delete my post if you want.
  24. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:26 AM) I'm gooing to make a bold prediction that if the Peavy and the Bailey trades goes through interleague between the Cubs/Sox is going to be closer then everyone thinks. Peavy V Buehrle Big Z V Floyd Harden V Danks Dempster V Bailey Lilly V CR/AP Awesome. If the Cubs get Peavy, they'll have the best rotation in baseball (at least for the first month). It's silly to compare our rotation to that. No matter what happens in the first 162 games for the Cubs, we can hold out hope that they've lost 9 straight playoff games and Peavy has no balls in the postseason.
  25. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:21 AM) Because except for his 2008 hiccup, Lillibridge has been thought of as an excellent prospect. What were his numbers in 2007?
