  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) Friendship means nothing over cash in pro sports. Besides, Abreu's too old for what he'd want money-wise. Friendship means an awful lot in the Sox organization.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:24 AM) So you can say that Abreu could probably be signed for Dye-type money, while he just bypassed the FA pitching market by trading Dye for a young, long-term arm. Exactly, while adding a great base runner in Abreu. Both suck on defense though.
  3. Even though I'd have to say this is some of the best baseball conversation we've had on this board, everything said in this could be mute if OC doesn't decline within the next 150 minutes.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:21 AM) Kenny has been trading our all or nothing OF'ers, I dont see him going after another one at this point. Agreed...everyone needs to remember that Ozzie and Abreu are great friends.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:20 AM) I think its safe to say that KW isnt after a FA pitcher. He was going to fill the lead off/OF/Pitching roles with trades or FA signings. With Bailey probably slotted for the 4th or 5th spot in the rotation I think its a pretty solid guess that any FA is going to be a corner OF'er or a leadoff man. Yep, with KW making all of these trades for potential 4/5 starters in 2009, he can't then go out and sign a 10 million dollar a year pitcher also.
  6. Lost in all of this is: WHAT IN THE HELL ARE THE REDS THINKING! Have they seen their roster compared to the Cubs? That team has no chance in the NL Central for a few seasons, and Jermaine will be retired in Arizona by that time.
  7. I'm actually beginning to come around on this already. Bailey is something we are really lacking..a potential power righty in our rotation.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:16 AM) I don't buy that. Dye was well respected in Chicago. He's talking about Swisher.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:15 AM) If he was batting 9th, I'd have zero problems with that. Hopefully a Furcal signing and a Taveras deal would give us a nice speedy combo at 1 and 9 in the lineup. Yep, I'd have no problem with it, as long as there's good offensive players added to SS and LF.
  10. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:15 AM) I wonder if this means Brian Anderson is going to get to start? Having that glove in CF would be nice after Swisher&Griffey. Not with Wily mo Taveras lurking
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:12 AM) I think it's funny that we'd be trading for, starting and batting leadoff a player who's former team believes is less valuable than Scott Podsednik. I think he'd be batting 9th.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:09 AM) Man, I'm definitely going to miss JD. I trust KW, so I trust that he knows more than us about Baileys struggles last season. But I must say, between Bailey/Danks/Floyd, the potential of the 3 reminds me of the early Zito/Hudson/Mulder A's rotation. T minus how many hours before Broadway is traded for WT
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:08 AM) Right, of course they arent worth half of what Dye is. And I like that many people are saying they wont go to games next year, I like it when there are less yahoo's at the park. The Sox are going after some FA's as we speak. I am not too worried, I like this building on young pitching philosophy. Any idea of when a decision is expected to be made by these FA?
  14. If true, it pisses me off that we traded Swisher. He would have fit in LF, and put Quentin in RF.
  15. At this time last year, an unnamed source said we had traded for Miguel Cabrera.
  16. Do we plays Cincy at the Cell next year? Also, Jermaine has my permission to go buck-wild on the Cubs.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:01 AM) Dye is one of the best players and people this team has ever had. And I'll say something controversial here, but screw it: I'll have better memories of Dye's time with the White Sox than Frank Thomas. However, there's plenty of time to discuss Dye's legacy in the coming days.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:00 AM) No it hasn't. This has been discussed in other threads. His problem has been lack of command, not lack of stuff. You must have not watched his performances for the Reds this past season. My brother also saw him in AAA a few times this season, and was shocked at how much velocity he's lost.
  19. On the other hand, if we use this money wisely, then I don't mind these moves. I'd like to be the first to say thank you to Jermaine Dye. One of the most significant players in Sox history.
  20. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:56 AM) I love this, Dye would be gone in a year anyway, and you're giving Coop a guy with some of the best pure stuff in baseball. It's 1 year of Jermaine Dye for 6+ years of Homer Bailey, + 11million to be used on free agents. Bailey's stuff has significantly deteriorated over the past few seasons.
  21. This is turning into the White Flag offseason version. Hopefully KW remembers our fan base won't show up if he doesn't have a winning team on the field.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:47 AM) Depends if we are "subsidizing" the deal with any money going to the Reds. If so, the secondary names like Freel and Dickerson, etc., will certainly come up. Ryan Freel f***ing sucks. We have enough grinders with little offensive talent.
  23. Just a terrible, gross trade. The rumors about the Sox having huge financial issues are becoming more accurate by the day.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) It makes me apprehensive to sign someone whose speed is a major tool that has been injured the last two seasons (Pods) and will be in his mid-thirties for the majority of the contract. Furcal was a good signing 4 years ago, but I think that ship has sailed, and the Dodgers lack of interest should throw up a red flag, like maybe they know something that we dont. I think our leadoff hitter will come from the CF position, and it may be an acquisition for another young prospect, maybe a package of the pieces that we have acquired for a year of Chone Figgins and Peter Bourjos, Cameron Maybin, or Dexter Fowler they would all fit KW's plan to get younger, be more athletic, and improve the defense. Save the money and get a pitcher instead of spending on a big question mark like Furcal. He's 31 now, which means a 4 year deal would end when he's 35.
  25. Lions have had every chance to beat the Vikings today, but looks like they're going to lose again.
