QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) I'm going to look at it from the other side of the coin. While I'm not thrilled with the value we just got for Swisher, if Williams hung onto Nick, and he had a 2009 similar to 2008, the posts of "Williams had too much pride to show that he made a mistake" would be out in full force. Williams missed on Swisher. It was a fantastic idea on paper, but Swisher didn't come close to his Oakland numbers. Williams decided to cut his losses, and move on. How about we don't go after OBP guys anymore? That's not the type of player Ozzie wants, and Swisher's much better off being on the Yanks or A's.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) BS, this team's window may have adjusted in terms of contending for a series but in the past year they added young talent like Danks/Floyd/Ramirez/Quentin. I don't think there are many teams in baseball that got that sort of impact out of four young players who had never proven anything in the majors prior. I think the reality is Kenny wants to get a few younger vets to fill in though and will utilize Dye/Konerko/Swish/Javy as the bait to help get him to that point. Sorry, I mean to include compete with the usual offensive core (Dye, Konerko, Thome).

QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Garland for OC was not a massive bust. We traded some very big chips last offseason in Garland and those 3 guys in the Swisher deal and have very little on the field in '09 to account for it. Hopefully KW can continue to make those smaller trades/acquisitions that pay off.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Plus we'll get 2 draft picks for OC I'd imagine. In the grand scheme of things, let's all hope this trade isn't a sign that the Sox are looking to lower payroll (rumors are out there that a lot of owners are in a lot of financial trouble with current economy).

The big two trades last offseason = massive busts

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Low OBP, strikeout out a ton. Has some power. He's basically Swisher without the walks, or Uribe without the glove. Platoon partner for Fields?

Anyone know stuff about Jhonny Nunez?
-
The fact we added Tex to it means there's more than Marquez. I'd love if we got Melky and Betemit. Betemit is a headcase, but he has huge power.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) This is a salary dump guys, $24 mil off the books for a scrap. It is however a pretty obvious sign KW is clearing up salary for something bigger, Aaron Poreda might want to pack his bags soon because were going to take on something big. Carlos Beltran? I'd love to trade Poreda now, as his stock is so much higher than it should be.
-
Sox got Betemit also
-
If's it just Swisher for Marquez, that's worse than the Marlins/Nationals trade from last week.
-
Marquez isn't one of the top 10 Yankees prospects for 2009.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) yea. bcuz thats what we did, gave him away. dumped salary i guess lol If we had to dump his salary, then we might as well have a fire sale.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) More I think of it, the more I hate it... Swish was a solid OBP guy and the Sox are sorely lacking in that area. Now they only have Q and Thome who will more times than not give the lineup a solid AB taking a ton of pitches. Swish should have been hitting 1 or 2 all year, Ozzie didn't use him right. Hope KW has more up his sleeve (which I'm sure he does, I am going into 1st move of the post season panic mode) because starting Fields, Getz, and BA or GOD FORBID Owens doesn't quite do it for me I honestly think KW believes the window for this team to compete might be over, and that's why you hear names like Dye, Jenks, Swisher, and Konerko being thrown around.
-
Great, so we traded 3 of our top prospects for one year of terrible baseball and nothing in terms of prospects. This also means Konerko is going nowhere.
-
Marquez absolutely sucks. He K'd 33 in 80 innings last year.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:00 AM) HUUUUUUGE Comeback win by the Salukis tonite. Carlton Fay and Bryan Mullins were big contributors tonite. SIU vs Duke at Madison Square Garden tomorrow baby! They play next week, not tomorrow. Great comeback win...I can't wait to watch Dillard on tv. -
You better get back at least one prospect that you know can be on your 25 man roster next season. Those Mets pitchers would be a disappointing return.

Cubs blogs are going nuts with a rumor that Peavy is being dealt for Theriot, Pie, and Marshall (and then Cubs would sign Furcal). Please, please don't be true! -
Sloane needs to eat a hamburger...way too skinny. Ari's speech at the luncheon was golden.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 03:54 AM) Again no he hasnt. Orton has really only had 2 stellar games and they were against 2 teams with brutal secondaries in Minny/Detroit. Other than that he has been average to below average. I guess people forget his brutal performance at Carolina.
-
Ballgame....Babich bent over and schooled on that 3rd down play.
-
Marty Booker has had a terrible game. He's not gone after any ball thrown to him aggressively. Nice call on that 2nd and 1...ugh!
