  1. Hopefully the Angels or Mets can sweep in and get Peavy.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:05 AM) Its a scouting report from 2005. It has his ETA as 2007. I'm thinking he hasn't lived up to the report. KW has hit the jackpot on a few pitchers, he's also crapped out on several. I think expecting either of the 2 guys acquired today to be contributors in 2009 is a reach. I honestly can't believe KW said he could be a starter for the big league team this upcoming season.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) Regardless, I think instead of modeling after the Braves, he's slightly adjusting his philosophy to model the Sox after Tampa Bay. Rebuild that farm system, and have young players everywhere who are good. Tampa was built around a bunch of players drafted high in the first round. KW has no prayer of adapting to this philosophy, as he'd be fired long before it would pay dividends.
  4. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:09 AM) As a terribly defensively overrated OF? Has that ever stopped the Sox before?
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) What would you be willing to give the Buccos in return for Nate? Poreda and Anderson
  6. McClouth would be a perfect fit for the Sox.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) i know we already have alot invested in middle relief but i really like the idea of going after juan cruz... I bet he ends up being a closer in the AL Central. Don't forget he's a type A.
  8. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) So would you have rathered kept Garland for 2008, and left Uribe to be the starting SS (and then who would have played 2B from opening day)? No, Garland was getting traded all along. It's disappointing that the person we got for him won't be around in 2009. I don't think any of this would have thought that would be the case around this team last year.
  9. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Ok so the Sox do that. Do they then turn 2B over to a Getz/Nix platoon, and either A - Give the closer's job to Thornton B - Go out and sign a FA closer. Thornton would make a solid closer. They could sign Grudz for cheap to play 2B.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Bulls***....OC filled a major hole (albeit he didn't fit in as planned) and is going to get the Sox additional compensation. DAllen summed up my point perfectly...KW traded 4 quality trade chips that resulted in not a single player likely starting for the 2009 season.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Would you rather sign Hudson and give up draft picks, or give up Jenks in a deal for Beltran? Give me Beltran for a closer with a K ratio on a horrible decline.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) Oh boy, this board is gonna be slammed the next few days. We will have one signing before the week is over for sure. And another trade before thanksgiving. Just a hunch? I really believe we'll trade for Wily and it wouldn't shock me if we blow other teams out of the water and sign Hudson.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) that would be the most logical moves the Cubs could make for their offense. Disagree, they should use every resource possible to acquire Roberts. Dunn would kill that team defensively.
  14. Look for Dunn to sign with the Cubs and play RF.
  15. Here's how you know Swisher sucked last year....we had two play-in games to make the playoffs, and he could only find the field as a defensive replacement.
  16. Betemit has a ton of power, and with his opposite field power, LA and NYY weren't exactly places he could put up huge numbers. A few years ago, he had ridiuclous ph numbers.
  17. Betemit was amazing in baseball video games like 5 years ago when coming up with the Braves.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Are we still talking about Swisher? No...and this is something I'm 100% sure of.
  19. Back to the actual trade and the ramifications, I actually hope KW holds on to Vazquez and focuses on trading for a CF and signing a 2b/SS. I'd be ok with Fields/Betemit at 3rd base.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) Didn't he do that stuff with the A's? I'm sure....and that was when PEDs were more accessible (especially in that locker room).
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) One of the benefits of a board like this one is that there are some people who have various connections to people around the league or around the team, so we can occasionally be privy to more rumors that may have a level of truth. It's however up to each person to decide how much they want to believe. If a person makes a statement like that, then they feel like it's information that other people might be interested in but they don't want/need to reveal their sources since it's just a bloody message board. Like someone seeing a particular playing doing blow off of a stripper's chest in the locker room after a minor league game?
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Thank you Sir Balta. I don't like these types of sweeping statements. If he gets hammered every night, it doesn't really matter... but the way that statement was written, as fact, without anything to back it up, was a joke. Swisher reminds me of Kyle Farnsworth, who was too busy enjoying extracurricular activities than preparing his body for the full season.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) In all seriousness, would you like to back up this slanderous allegation? He's lives a fast lifestyle.
  24. Now that I know the trade is legit, I will say that PEDs was not the only issue Swisher had off the field. For his sake, I hope he cleans up his act.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Ugh, I hate getting rid of Swish. Dammit. There better be a FA signing coming ASAP. Look for Taveras to be traded for soon.
