Our terrible play of late kept the Twins in this race, and it was a matter of time before they started to play better.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) Is DJ going to do radio? Or is DJ gone? I like Jackson but there is no denying how good Stone is and what an upgrade he will be on tv. DJ offered radio gig, but I heard he's likely to turn it down.

Stone to replace him in the booth next year.

USF/Kansas is the game of the year so far. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 03:43 AM) The game will be played a 1 o'clock on Sunday. Chicagosports said it's a DH tomorrow.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 12:18 AM) It really doesn't look there is any reason to not have started this game on time. The problem is it's supposed to get worse by 9.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 12:14 AM) Ozzie-Leyland-Williams look pissed. Funny stuff seeing Ozzie get the popcorn.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 12:10 AM) SO...they're delaying it...anyone think it's going to happen. Doubtful

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) Wow, I still can't score a lick in NHL. Anyone got any tips? Get it drunk

Usual lineup tonight with Wise batting 2nd.
-
No one thinks this game will get played tonight, as well as tomorrow night.

Can someone bump the thread from when AJP signed with the Sox, or is that long gone from the archives?

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) He tied it off of Guardado, and then Frank hit a 2-run walk off shot on July 2nd 2003. It was Carl Everett's and Roberto Alomar's first game with the Sox. That was an awesome night in the bleachers. f***ing Billy Koch....however, that game was one of the most exciting I can remember.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 04:55 AM) Then I'll take that as a plus from tonight. We did beat KRod and won the Angels series. I just can't believe we can't do better than 1 of 4 from Toronto with so much at stake. We are a veteran laden team and even though baseball is a marathon I'd hope we could do better than 1 of 4. I think everyone on here understands how this team could lose 3 of 4 to a great pitching team like Toronto who's playing superb baseball. However, this series highlighted how you can't afford to lose to terrible pitchers like R. Liz, L. Cormier, and M. Bowden.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 05:40 AM) I knew you wouldn't comment on my post and just rip me for my love of Oz. Yes I love Ozzie. The Angels arguably aren't the Angels right now, coasting in with the big lead. We didn't face Weaver who would have shut us down. Well, we did beat Lackey, who is their best pitcher. We also gave K-Rod a blown save.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 05:32 AM) It's so easy to say something about this team you regret later. Like this statement: Can we beat any good teams??? Ever??? God. They come in and win 3 of 4 from us. Are you s***ting me? Three of four? In a pennant race in the Cell? Yes, 2 of 3 against the Angels. Next question. BTW, tell your beloved manager to stop using our scrubs in a pennant race. There's a reason these guys were in the minors all season.
-
Is Brian Roberts healthy? I noticed that he didn't play tonight.
-
QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 05:01 AM) Uh, maybe because it's a valid criticism, and he has yet to respond to it? Because it's a question that has no exact answer. If you think that OC was the only player we could have gotten for Garland, and that there were no other players available to get for our 3 minor league package, then there's no point in even discussing the situation.
-
So what's your proposed lineup for tomorrow? Here's mine: OC Griffey Dye Thome AJP Ramirez Swisher Uribe Anderson I don't think either Owens or Wise can hit a 95 mph fastball.
-
QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 03:40 AM) You can't assume something with absolutely no evidence to support it, and expect to ever be correct, much less have anyone agree with you. What if teams knew we had a thin minor-league system, just missed out on Torii Hunter, and that we needed an outfielder? They'd be asking for the moon, and rightfully so. Well, Santo agrees with me, and he's one of the most knowledgeable posters on here.
-
This isn't a criticism of Ozzie, but at what point will he say enough is enough and get tossed by an umpiring crew? The two calls at first base were terrible tonight, and the strike calls to Griffey in the 9th were awful. I rarely blame umpires instead of players, but this has gotten out of control.
-
QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 04:28 AM) Ok, so who? Who could we have traded for? Who was available? Who did Kenny not get that he could have? Unless there's someone on this site that is in the front office, no one knows the answer to this. However, you'd have to be nuts to think that Sweeney/Gio/DLS wasn't an attractive package to teams.
-
QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 04:26 AM) No, he didn't. All fastballs 84-88. A changeup in a 3-2 count with the tying run at the plate and less than two outs in the bottom of the ninth is not an expected pitch by any player, on any team. It was a bad AB by Swisher, true, but blaming him for swinging at a change is kind of silly. He was way out in front of an offspeed pitch early in the AB.
-
BTW, Aaron Cunningham would be a nice addition to this Sox roster right now.
-
QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 04:21 AM) What have those prospects done? And what was the production from CF/LF/1B like last year? Even in a down year, Swisher is an upgrade over last year. Show me someone with roughly as many PAs as Swish with a similar BABIP, AVG, OBP, and SLG. Heck -- even someone with a similar BABIP and one of the three other stats. It's not just how Swisher had been in relation to the guys he was traded for. It's the possible other packages out there we could have received instead of Swisher. Same with the Garland trade.
