Laird is a very valued commodity. Why would the Rangers trade him for a pitcher like Egbert who is a non-prospect?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Many of their top spects had down years as well. Vitters is far and away their best prospect now. Colvin is so overrated, the Cubs should have traded him when he had value.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) Not a great deal for the O's there. The Orioles will make one run at signing Roberts to an extension. If they can't agree to terms, they'll definitely trade him. With him having one year left on his deal, his value will be down as compared to last season. I actually like Marshall a lot more than Gallagher, but maybe McPhail doesn't. The Orioles have a glaring hole at SS though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) I just read in the trib and on the Cubs board than Cedeno is on his way out because of a confrontation with the Cubs trainers. I bet we could get our hands on him for somewhat cheap. I've always thought he would be a good player if given regular playing time. He would be both a good option for SS and also for super sub. I bet he goes with Marshall and Hoffpauir for Brian Roberts

Good riddance OC
Joe Cowley was just on the radio, and said that after some members of the Sox organization heard the OC to Twins rumors last week, they told Cowley they'll be happy to drive him to Minnesota.

Who would you like to see gone before '09?
QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:13 AM) You have to trade CQ and A-Ram, there values are sky high right now. Probably Danks as well. It will be tough for any of those three to continue at this pace. We should have cleaned house last off season. The Tigers and Indians are too tough to compete with. Funny you mock that, as I think trading Floyd would be an amazing move by KW.

Good riddance OC
Interesting to look at the teams that don't have protected picks. The Dodgers, Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Twins could all be options for OC. 1. Nationals (59-102) 2. Mariners (61-101) 3. Padres (63-99) 4. Pirates (67-95) 5. Orioles (68-93) 6. Giants (72-90) 7. Braves (72-90) 8. Reds (74-88) 9. Tigers (74-88) 10. Nationals (compensation for failure to sign 2008 first-rounder Aaron Crow) 11. Rockies (74-88) 12. Royals (75-87) 13. Athletics (75-86) 14. Rangers (79-83) 15. Indians (81-81) 16. Diamondbacks (82-80) Unprotected First-Round Picks 17. Dodgers (84-78) 18. Marlins (84-77) 19. Cardinals (86-76) 20. Blue Jays (86-76) 21. Astros (86-75) 22. Mariners (compensaton for failure to sign 2008 first-rounder Joshua Fields) 23. Twins (88-75) 24. White Sox (89-74) 25. Mets (89-73) 26. Yankees (89-73) 27. Brewers (90-72) 28. Phillies (92-70) 29. Red Sox (95-67) 30. Rays (97-65) 31. Yankees (compensation for failure to sign 2008 first-rounder Gerrit Cole) 32. Cubs (97-64) 33. Angels (100-62)

Off-Season Suggestion Thread
We all know that KW likes to go after guys numerous times when he thinks they might be available. If the Sox decided to keep Alexei at 2B, Edgar Renteria could be a possible option at SS.

QUOTE (DaGame2584 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:45 AM) If Boone was an option why would we trade for Ramirez from KC? Because when Contreras went down, KW went out and got any arm he could. He probably thought Carrasco would become the 5th starter, and we needed a long man.

QUOTE (DaGame2584 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:38 AM) God no! I'm sorry I cannot stand Boone. Sign Rhodes for the loggy spot. The last thing we need to do is spend another 3-4 mil on a reliever. We have plenty of lefty options (Boone, Poreda).

QUOTE (DaGame2584 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:23 AM) Really!? Where would Hardy play? I was thinking maybe Weeks and some others. Hardy at SS, and Alexei at 2B. I actually think Weeks could be the type of guy KW goes after. I've watched a lot of Brewers games, and Weeks sucks.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:18 AM) I have a scary thought for you. Nick Punto is a FA. Let that sink in for a second. Pray we don't pick him up, because he is "perceived to be " good against us. Its the KC Royals Bullpen effect. Bad, but good against us. I've been saying that for a while, you cheater! Thankfully, I heard Punto might extend with the Twins.

QUOTE (kane0730 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:17 AM) I was afraid you were going to say BA. I can't see the Sox ever giving the keys to Anderson or Fields to start. In a perfect world, Anderson and Wise are the Sox's 4th/5th otufielders.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:10 AM) I think the Sox should try for Hudson to play 2B and leadoff.... He's not a leadoff hitter, he wants 12 mil a year, and the Yankees are set on acquiring him. Why not sign Grudz for a year (as we wait for Beckham's era to start), and save the money for other positions.

Alexei a future #2 or #3 hitter?
We should be seeing Alexei bat 2nd and CQ bat 3rd for the next few years. BTW, what's Alexei's contract status?
