QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) I can't decide if it is funny or sad that some people just cannot grasp the concept that this is a list of favorite players and that nobody's opinion is any more or less valid than anybody else's. I think more sad. From a spectator's point of view, I find it entertaining to read the bickering.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) no, not at all. I've just read about 20 posts (in various threads) berating this list, and I think its a little silly and I think we should take the list for what its worth. Willie Harris wouldn't be in my top 50 favorite players, but I could see the attraction. 'nough said. Yeah, after being on this board for about 4 years, you realize how some people generate a fan base while others don't. It reminds me of how 2 years ago, the U.S. Cellular in Homewood had Sox players there on consecutive weekends for autographs. The first weekend was Pods, and the line must have been 500 people deep. The next weekend was Garland, and literally there were 5 people there.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) its not a list of "who's the best," its a list of "who's your favorite." The majority of posters on this board are younger, and they're going to remember guys like Willie Harris fondly over a guy like Kirk McCaskill or Dan Pasqua. I don't agree with it, but I didn't participate by making a list, and I understand the philosophy behind the list. Seriously, we don't need 5 posts from people every new thread talking about how "__________" makes the list a waste or whatever. I get it, I feel your pain, but just chill out already. Was that directed at me? I'm actually upset I didn't participate in this, as it would have allowed me to reflect on some players I don't often think about (Ellis Burks is a great example).

Since this is all for fun and games, I'll say this....Bobby Jenks deserves to be in the top 5. When you look at what he's done with the Sox, it's nothing short of incredible. His legacy will last longer with the organization than that of Ventura or Durham or (gulp) Rowand.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) baltimore is probably one of the best, if not the best "Bad Team" in the AL IMO, it's either them or the Tigers, orioles always seem to play us well and usually every single time we play them Bobby gets a save opp, which means the games are usually always close and Jenks usually blows the save vs them. Who do both teams have coming up in the suspended game?
-
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Yeah, Willie Harris? c'mon guys. I'm calling it now by the way, Aaron Rowand will be number one, which is a crime. I'm predicting a top 5 of Thomas, Buehrle, Quentin, Konerko, Paniagua

I do have to say that their 12 pack cooler giveaway with their 5 starting pitchers on it is a sweet promotion.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) No. Angels are the best team in the AL. They pants us when we played them and they gave it to the red sox a month or so ago. They pantsed us? We split in Anaheim, and we could have easily won all 4 games there. If the Sox could learn how to hit Weaver, I'd say we're the better team. The Sox have a better player at every position besides 1b, 3b, and CF.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 06:20 PM) Plan on getting rid of the dvd player? Nah, she won't want to watch it again.

Not only that, but their TV announcer last night absolutely sucked.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Men's VB last night, I enjoyed watching several guys I played against back in the day, especially Sean Rooney who went on a jump serving tear to really turn the tide on the Russians. That match was so much more entertaining that beach volleyball. Considering the circumstances with the coach, it's too bad they're not getting more attention. -
It's amazing how low Garland was on the list. It just seems like he never really connected with the White Sox fan base.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 06:26 AM) Yeah, we really need the Angels to take 3 of 4 because we'll be lucky if the Mariners can get 1 of 3, and hopefully the A's can get 1 of 4, then hope for the Blue Jays to get 2 of 3. With Duchsherer and Gallagher out, I don't even want to think about who the A's will start. Also, how's it looking for the Twins getting Halladay?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 06:25 AM) 1) Torii Hunter, since he hurt his ankle a couple of seasons ago, is just an average at best defensive CFer now 2) The Angels aren't that good...in fact, it's almost like they have White Sox-itis, with the boppers now in the middle of the line-up, they've forgotten how to execute and manufacture runs....their pitching is saving them this season, but I think they will go down in the first round of the playoffs. Whenever I say I'm worried the Cubs will win the World Series, I always get the response "not if they have to go through the Angels". There's no way this Angels team would be able to outslug the Cubs. Gage...you might know this. Do the Angels allow their minor leaguers to use aluminum bats? Guys like Rodriguez and Wood put up huge minor league numbers, and when they get called up, they look like pitchers at the plate.
-
Ugh, awful start to the road trip from the Sox standpoint.
-
This Angels offensive effort tonight is one of the worst I've seen this season. One hit in the last 8 innings, and that hit was a cheap infield single.
-
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 05:09 AM) I know this is way early, but if they put up numbers such as 9-5, 10-4, or better on this road trip, we are going to be in trouble. If they put up a 10-4 on the road trip...well, let's hope Boston starts losing a lot.
-
This would be an absolutely huge win for the Twins to start this road trip.
-
Also, Howie Kendrick must be batting .800 in games I don't watch, as I can't recall ever seeing him hit well when watching.
-
The Angels keep adding offensive players (Hunter, Tex)....but I still think their offense sucks.

QUOTE (False Alarm @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:52 AM) cook's got a chance to make it as a 4th OF. i've read scouts comparing him to warren newson, so at least someone who gets paid to evaluate prospects thinks he might have a big-league career. but he hardly seems worth arguing about. seems to be a lotta love on the board lately for oldish fringe guys who have very little chance to make it and almost no chance to be MLB regulars. i guess maybe it's just a product of us having so few potential impact guys in the system. Good thing we never had Calvin Pickering in our system.

What a great double play turned by the Angels!!!!!

Thome had a stomach pull yesterday, but is expected back tomorrow.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:55 AM) Soooo... the one time you saw him he sucked, eh? I guess we should just ignore the fact he's had over a .900 OPS two years in a row then. (Sorry... not vicious sarcasm... just mild.) JPN knows a fair bit about him since he has season tickets to the Barons games. I'm sure he'll chime in on the subject soon. The report I got was from someone who saw him play 8 times over the last 2 months. All opinions on his ability aside, I just don't see the need to call up 2 outfielders at the call-up deadline. It's hard enough to get Anderson some at-bats. I hope they do call up a 3rd catcher, as that would allow Ozzie to pr late in the game. I have no clue who would be the 3rd catcher (Armstrong?).
