QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:00 AM) I kind of like Pleasac, he makes sense. He is very critical of our home run or nothing approach. One thing I'll give him...at least his stories of former baseball players isn't about guys from the 19th century like Hawk's stories.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:59 AM) I thought PK and URibe were benched, what is the general purpose of giving 2 easy outs!! Ozzie named Uribe our starting 3rd baseman today until Crede returns.

Bad news on the Crede front. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Atk1...p&type=lgns

Good thing we're not playing Fields against a LHP.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:50 AM) I didn't see that stat. It just feels like we're attempting to kill our chances. A pitching staff that's been getting worse for the last month and a half? Put the worst defense possible in the OF. Make a trade to put your worst offensive player on the bench? Start him anyway! Need pitching more than anything at the deadline? f*** it, trade a reliever for a one-dimensional hitter. Griffey was the last thing this team needed. How about the fact that it seems like KW had to make a trade to find a replacement for Swisher, who he gave up 3 of his top 5 prospects for? I never want to hear KW talk about not having "$1.00" to make trades.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:45 AM) I've been asking in the chat why PK is starting, he's supposed to be riding pine with the acquisition of Griffey. Also, Griffey is probably the worst CF in the league, or all of baseball. Perhaps he didn't feel like bending over to stop that ball from rolling past him on that triple. Our defense has been bad enough this season. Griffey Jr. out there just makes it so much worse. DAllen's stat about balls in play for Cincy is crazy.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) If Griffey doesn't let the ball get by him, the infield isn't in and if he hit the ball exactly the same, its an easy out. Bad defense will kill you. I hope someone keeps track of the triples we allow when Griffey Jr's in CF compared to when Swisher/Anderson/Wise are out there.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:35 AM) I've got an even more awesome idea, the Sox trade for Griffey and we pretend its 10 years ago. Don't worry, Adam Russell is back baby!
-
What did Jr do?
-
Or how about we play Griffey Jr. against LHP when he sucks against them while Anderson's been looking good at the plate?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:10 AM) Plesac...PLEASE STFU!!!!!!!!!!!! Could you imagine Bill Melton doing a Cubs game?

Who do you dislike as a sports fan?

Can someone show me how Dye's numbers rank with people like Aparicio and Fisk during their Sox career?

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) Who's Adam Greenberg? In 2005, he had one at bat with Cubs, got hit in the head, and missed the rest of the season. He'll likely never make it back to the majors.
-
Can I vote for Jermaine Dye And BTW, I demand a recount if Adam Greenberg doesn't win the Cubs contest.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) I'm going to get all Charles Haley and s*** when I see Griffey carted off the field. In all seriousness, let's hope he provides a spark. Hopefully he gets the start tonight due to the first home game as a White Sox, and then he gets a lot of rest against lefties the rest of the way.
-
So assuming Cubs make the playoffs, who do you think we want them to face in the 1st round? Arizona has the pitching in Webb/Haren/RJ to beat the Cubs, but I worry about Arizona's hitting and their propensity to strike out. I like the Dodgers offense now, but all I see in their rotation is Lowe/Billingsley and shaky bullpen without Saito. The pitcher who's been the best against the Cubs in the past two years has been Cole Hamels, so I wouldn't mind seeing the Phillies get the Cubs in the 1st round.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) OC AJ CQ JD JT PK KG AR JU Really would have liked to see Fields get a start against a LHP

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Nope, Johnson was in the bottom of the 10th, when Hernandez caught the tipped bunt attempt by Anderson and got Quentin off on 3rd. Then at the top of the 11th, Hernandez hit a homer off of Linebrink, Sherrill came in Bottom of 11th and Uribe hit a homer. So they are through 11 innings, 3-3 tie. Correct, I had the 10th and 11th innings mixed up.
-
QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) Supposedly Linebrink and Sherrill will be on the mound for their teams(obviously this may or may not change) .. I thought it was in the 8th inning I may be wrong, I forget the score I thought Sherrill was already out of the game. IIRC, it was Johnson who K'd Anderson to end that inning.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) Sox have a few top guys unsigned. Kinda getting worried about Danks and Beckham. I know Beckham has no reason to go back, but the fact that we haven't heard anything positive makes me worry. Same with Danks. I think Beckham might be waiting for the other guys to sign, especially since it's guys who are looking for huge deals. I'm not too concerned about Beckham not signing. Remember this...if for some reason he doesn't sign, we get the 8th pick compensation again.
-
QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) I hope we get more value then just Sanchez, but yeah its just an example We'd have to give up more than Fields to get Sanchez likely. I still predict that the Giants sign OC to a big deal in the offseason.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) The Rangers and the Yankees played a great game last night. Real fun to watch. It's just too bad that the Rangers broadcast of the game wasn't on so I could hear Lewin going nuts. And also some possible good news, as Ortiz has wrist issues that possibly could make him miss this wknd's series.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 05:48 AM) Since it's been open the Twins will be 0-1. Keep it open until they start winning. No, we'll just use it as the secret weapon if they take over 1st place again. Think of it as the anti-Brewers thread from last year.
