  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) Hawk mentioned Cabrera's non-chalant throw at least 3 times. I just hope the team takes the high road if they deal him and there were problems, because since the call to the pressbox story leaked they have insunated its been peaches and cream with him. I thought it was telling when they reported that Dye and OC dislike each other, and that was brewing prior to the KC incident. Dye is pretty much the leader in the lockeroom among the veterans.
  2. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) Do any of you guys really seeing the sox make a move? Yes, I think we'll see H. Street on the Sox by tomorrow night.
  3. QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) They are idiots who only care about the current trend in every player they evaluate. Actually, it's cause Joe Cowley reported the Sox had some deals in mind that including Fields and Floyd.
  4. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) Nick has been successful in spots this season and has definitely improved over last year so if we do trade him I'd hope that we get back at least a low level high-ceiling prospect. We got Nick from the Rangers in the Brandon McCarthy trade so if they have an interest it would appear to me that they see something in him from his time in their organization and value him, similar to when Kenny got Gio Gonzalez back from Philly. Lets not just think that he's a bum because he's had a few bad outings. I think he's terrible because his WHIP is way too high for a major league pitcher.
  5. Remember how Hawk was saying how great Wes Bankston on the A's looked? Well, he's 0 for his last 20, and got sent down. Hawk....we sure miss your days as a talent evaluator.
  6. I'd really like to see Ramirez bat after Thome. You combine Thome's OPS with Ramirez's ability to get hits.
  7. Ugh, why is he batting right after Thome? I wish we could score runs on drop 3rd strikes like the Cubs did tonight.
  8. Two terrible at bats to start the game for OC and AJ.
  9. Great trade by the Yankees. I bet Tigers were worried that Pudge would accept arbitration (assuming he's eligible).
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) Do you think before you post? Vazquez is a 32 year old journeyman UT player who benefits from hitting in Texas. Loe is a guy with a good arm who isn't even on their MLB team because he can't seem to post an ERA under 6.00. Um, if Texas is looking at Masset there's a good chance they'd be willing to give up their equivalents of Pablo Ozuna and David Aardsma for him. Again, why would Texas trade their 3rd baseman with Blalock out. An .868 OPS for a "utility player" is damn good, no matter what team he plays for.
  11. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) I like Kameron Loe's arm and think he'd be a nice project for Coop. I don't know if the Sox would have any interest though, or how much the Rangers value him. I'd love a Loe + Ramon Vazquez for Masset deal though. Vazquez would give us a backup option for Crede once he comes back and can also play other IF positions, while Loe I believe throws in the low-mid nineties with some pretty sick breaking stuff. Do people actually think about logical scenarios before they post trade proposals? Why would the Rangers give up Vazquez, who's hitting well over .300, AND Loe for a crappy middle reliever. Not to mention that Blalock's out for the year likely, meaning that Vazquez will be playing every day.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Both are probably future pen arms, I didnt think Richard's secondary stuff was enough to get mlb hitters out consistently. Poreda however throws that same sinker from a better arm angle and about 5-7 mph harder. Richard's slider is just horrible. I couldn't believe Toby kept calling for it in the 5th last night, especially with Spann up in a big spot.
  13. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) when PK came back there was a thread to the effect of why put him back in if we were winning to which I replied "if it ain't broke....." chemistry is a big thing and if a group of players feel they're locked in, you have to leave well enough alone. Wise was filling in very very nicely (hits but especially speed legging out the xtra base to tack on runs we would not have had with PK lumbering one base per hit) and we were cruising. Having a dead spot in the offense puts pressure on the rest of the O if they fall behind, and on the pitcher if he believes the O cannot come back if he gives a few up. I don't think the pitching struggles and PKs return aren't related This sounds odd, but I thought Swisher brought a ton of energy to the team when he was at first base. The infield seemed a lot looser, as did the pitching.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) I actually think Owings could be a good buy. He hasn't given up a ton of hits despite a ridiculously high ERA and I still think he's at least a league average pitcher who will be under the teams control for a few years. However, I don't see the Dbacks offering those type of chips without getting better now. It would have to be a 3 team deal with Owings/Tracy coming to the Sox and Fields/Poreda going to another team, possibly with an additional prospect or two from Arizona (or Chicago), in exchange for a legit bat. Ugh, Owings is awful. His fastball at 88 mph would be destroyed in the AL with his lack of good offspeed pitches. He really should become an offensive player.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) We've been saying that all year. "Oh, well his outs are hard-hit, maybe he's coming around." After a while it doesn't carry weight anymore. I hate to break it to people, but the Sox aren't likely going anywhere this season unless PK can get back on track. Anderson and Wise have shown some flashes this season, but a team with those guys in CF and Swisher at 1B will not hold off the Twins and Tigers.
  16. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Nobody commenting on the fact that Konerko hit the ball pretty hard last night in a couple of at-bats, eh? I said last night that PK should get another start to see if he can build on his two good at-bats to end the game. Things are getting scary with how depleted our lineup/rotation/bullpen appear.
