I'm really enjoying calling first pitch fastballs to an overaggressive team

Can Buehrle pitch over some more terrible defense?

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread
I stayed up for the basketball game last night, and it was well worth it. The Rudy Fernandez dunk in the 4th quarter was one of the more memorable moments of the Olympics.

Twins with a huge inning going, as Judy Garland is s***ting the bed.

Today's bullpen implosion, brought to you by Seattle Sutton
QUOTE (griffey17 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) Agreed...but Thornton didn't help by walking in a run I'm not even close to being mad about that....it was a hell of an at bat.

BTW, wasn't it refreshing to not see Tampa play smallball in the 8th inning? They went for the win instead of having Bartlett bunt. Kudos to their coaching staff.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) It's 1 AM here in n Warsaw, Poland. There's a million BEAUTIFUL women who want it and the clubs don't close....and here I am pissed about the game and I don't want to go out because of it. Someone please give me a DOSE OF REALITY I guarantee this one game won't decide who actually makes the playoffs. Sadly, those girls in Poland have never heard of Carlos Quentin, so they're not going to be in a bad mood. If Orlando Cabrera doesn't give a f***, then why should you?

Thornton had the chance to get out of that inning with the Sox still tied if OC could field the damn ball. Does he have naked pictures of the official scorer? I've never seen a player get the benefit of the call more than he does.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) Not really sure why Vaz came back out for the 8th. It was pretty obvious he was running out of steam during the 6th despite the low pitch count. I really hate having to bring in bullpen guys in a situation where the chance for success is so low. Oz put his starter and BP in a bad position to succeed today. Navarro hits over .300 against RHP, and below .250 vs LHP.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) I was told he is a great clutch hitter by a few members here. Cool...I remember one clutch hit from him late in a game all season.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:52 PM) This will be the first time since April the White Sox have been 1.5 games out of first place. Marcum has fallen completely out of the major leagues after leading the AL in ERA in April and May, which means we will be lucky if Minnesota sees either Burnett or Halladay. The way Minnesota is playing with all the momentum on their side, and with Liriano's resurgence, they could sweep through Oakland and Seattle. The Sox best bet is the Wild Card with the Twins showing no signs of slowing down and a very easy schedule remaining.

What a shocker....late inning strike out for Thome. Nice game for him.

How about a Dye single, Thome walk, and Griffey homer?

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) Whenever I get so pissed off as I am right now I think of 2005. At least we got to see it guys. I realize our lives as White Sox fans may not be the best, but we got to see ONE TIME what we all wanted. It doesn't do us any good now and there is no sense living in the past but at least we saw it. Now here's to 3 RUNS IN THE FRIGGIN NINTH Now this, I totally agree with. I couldn't imagine the how the heartbreak of 2006 would have been if they hadn't won it all in 2005. The intensity I felt for the games in 2005 will never be the same.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) ME! And I hate Bartlet. Hey Dave Martinez is a coach, didn't know that. I doubt he made the Top 50 Favorite Sox Players. Maybe Top 50 Adulterers

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) yeah possibly, but after all the sports scandals....and just business scandals period, in dealing with the billions of dollars professional sports bring in....wouldn't you try to do everything possible to make "the good story lines" actually succeed? im not implying that this game right here is fixed at all, or has any sort of unfair officiating, im just saying that if a story came out that said the rays, or cubs were helped out a bit, it wouldnt shock me One big rebuttal....MLB wants nothing to do with Tampa in the postseason. If you think they'd rather have Tampa over Boston or New York, you're crazy.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) I would prefere to see Griffey bat for Thome, he's been horrible today. Thome was facing a lefty he should have never been in the lineup to face. I have no problem with him batting if it's against Wheeler.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) im not saying that i think games are fixed or that anyone is out to get us at all, but after the tim donaghy scandal and the way the Scott Foster phone calls were just swept under the rug by the NBA, i am beginning to think its a bit naive to not at least consider the possibility that officials in all sports are "encouraged" to call close plays one way or another How about maybe if the umpires don't like a particular person on a team, such as the manager? In no way is this my typical shot at Ozzie, but after seeing how bad the umps have been towards the Sox this year, is this their retribution?

OC might be the worst SS I've ever seen on hard hit grounders that he needs to get on the short hop. Luckily for his agent, those haven't been called errors.
