  1. QUOTE(hotlanta13 @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) I think everybody is going a little overboard on how bad the White Sox really are. I have a couple of suggestions for some easy fixes: Sign Fukudome. Fills the leadoff and LF spot. Trade Crede for a 7th inning man. Put Fields at 3B. Trade Uribe for a bag of balls. Cut payroll. Contreras is our #3. If he comes back and performs, Awesome. If not, he have to put him out there just to see if we can trade him without picking up too much of his salary. Let Danks, Floyd, Gio and everybody else battle for the #4, #5 slots. I liked Danks last year. Hopefully another year of seasoning will be just what he needs. We're not talking about the Brian Anderson experiment here. Danks actually showed promise. Put Richar at 2B. Put Owens at CF. 1. Fukudome 2. Cabrera 3. Thome 4. Konerko 5. Dye 6. Fields 7. AJ 8. Richar 9. Owens I think that's a great looking line-up. I'm not saying we're amazing, but I'm predicting Division Champs. There's still that whole starting pitching issue, in which we might have the worst rotation in the division (along with KC).
  2. If you put KW's comments together, Jerry Owens seems like a lock to be starting in LF next season. With that in mind, Xavier Nady would be a great acquisition to fill in against LHP. The Pirates are desperate to get rid of him, and you could probably get him for someone like Adam Russell and Heath Phillips. Nady could really help against LHP, and then just let OC lead off against.
  3. Mitchell Report to come out in a week, supposedly. I honestly find it interesting how certain players are getting less attention than others. I wonder if these owners, like Moreno, know more than they're supposed to right now.
  4. An outfield of Cabrera, Cuddyer, and Young might be the best throwing outfield in history.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:51 AM) This will be without a doubt the weakest national champion since the BCS started. The sad thing is that the best team in the nation was Oregon when Dixon was healthy.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:41 AM) Hilarious. Osu isn't even the most corrupt program in the big ten. We didn't give back title. Don't worry, we are only bringing back 20 starters and the number 2 class in the country. It's just two programs that are very hard to root for unless you're actually a fan of that team. Don't worry Rock, UGa is my least favorite team in the world outside of the Cubs and Illini basketball.
  7. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:38 AM) Speaking of corrupt, how about the Pitt game? Talk about the fix being in. My ESPN was out due to the weather, but my brother, who was rooting for WVU, couldn't believe how shady things were. Who's the Heisman after tonight, McFadden?
  8. Georgia vs Ohio St. in the battle of the corrupt athletic departments!
  9. SIU tried to get physical on Gordon on that one drive, and all it did was fire the Hoosiers up.
  10. This is terrible news for the Sox, as this increases the chances of Crisp to the White Sox by about 100 pct.
  11. My fear in trading for Bay is that the Pirates would probably want Fields and Gio. Personally, give it two years, but Fields will be a much bigger power threat than Bay.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) Wow, how the mighty have fallen. Somehow the Cards look like they are in a worse position than the Sox. Wilson or Uribe would have been good fits for that team.
  13. Cardinals sign Izturis....this moves hurts both the Sox and the Cards.
  14. I love when athletes try to come up with reasons they signed other than just saying "X team offered me significantly more money than anyone else".
  15. Rowand wants 5 year deal, but Sox are only going to give him 4 years. Bay is someone who I thought KW might be interested in, but the Pirates are supposedly asking for the moon for him. The Fukodome stuff is interesting, as earlier today there were rumblings that the Sox weren't interested in him. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7506740
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 04:47 AM) If we could do the above mentioned trade, and then sign Fukodome... 1. Fukodome, CF 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Cabrera, LF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Dye, RF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Crede, 3B 9. Richar, 2B Buehrle, Vazquez, Contreras, Floyd/Egbert/Broadway NICE! Even though that rotation sucks, that's a hell of a lineup. Sox aren't pursuing Fukodome. Teams have basically given up on the idea of him playing in CF.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) This Gumbel is the most boring announcer I've ever heard. I don't want a cheerleader announcing the game but gosh damn. Plus he tries to add color commentary and that makes things worse. He's awful. Reminds me of James Brown during the NCAA Tournament. It sounds like they're on a cell phone. Why can't Gus Johnson just announce every game.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:40 AM) McCarthy is no Garza, plain and simple. After 2005, he was one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. I must have missed when Garza became this top-notch stud. I know some members of the Tampa organization are furious that they gave up on Delmon when Rocco's career is in jeopardy.
  19. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) We may be stuck with Uribe. Word out of STL has the Cardinals and Pirates talking a deal in which STL would get Jack Wilson and Matt Morris (two bad contracts) from the Pirates for a couple of low rate prospects. I still can't believe KW signed Uribe, and then traded our best chip for another SS less than 10 days later. It's really disappointing to see what's taking place so far, and I like OC.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:07 AM) I can come up with about 10 other young hitters in A ball, equal or better than Carter, who didn't make the list. Thankfully they said Carter, and not soxtalk icon Egbert.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 03:26 AM) These are my exact sentiments. I actually envy the Twins here because, first, they undersand contention next year is unlikely and aren't making marginal signings/acquisitions to appease their fanbase; and second, the talented players they're making available will fetch quite the haul. Even if any deals are primarily the result of payroll restrictions, it's still a approach which may lead them back to the playoffs before us. I still can't believe the Twins got a young stud like Delmon Young for a starting pitcher that they didn't even like enough last year to keep in the rotation for the full season. McCarthy should have had similar value for to Garza last year, and we end up getting a starting pitcher who, if everything goes right, can be a #3 starter.
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 02:04 AM) They didn't non-tender him. He was a FA. They declined to offer him arbitration, which would have resulted in either 2 extra top 75 picks (about $2M in signing bonuses), or 1-year of Riske at about $2.5MM. Sorry, I meant the arb. offer. Riske very well could have picked up that 2.5 million. Let's face it though, the Sox have very little appreciation for racking up draft picks.
  23. Real quick opinion, not like anyone cares. David Riske is a reliever who doesn't handle tough outs well. His stuff has deteriorated over the last few years, and I have no problem with them not tendering him last season.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:49 AM) James was fine in Maui outside of Chaminade. The Duke game he was getting to the lane whenever he wanted, he had four or five shots that went in and out. His shot selection was fine, too. His shot looks a lot better this year -- don't know if the stats bear that out. And no, Marquette's offense doesn't run better through Acker. That's silly. Acker is a good bench player, a good backup PG, nothing more. I just don't think James sets up his teammates well. He was a more well-rounded pg his freshman year. I saw those shots he rimmed out, it will be interesting to see if he keeps shooting with the confidence he showed. As you know, he had no confidence at the end of last year.
