QUOTE (knightni @ May 24, 2008 -> 01:28 AM) Perhaps Thome shouldn't reach his appearances clause in order to activate his option. I had no clue his batting average was all the way down to .207. I thought he had been doing better. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2008 -> 12:27 AM) if you see on his swing he goes off balance - it was nothing intentional They'll still call that on occasion. Dye had such a good AB, then fell into the Sox trap of swinging at 3-2 junk. -

Ugh, you get the first two on before CQ and Dye, and you expect to score. -

Dye got lucky, that could have been interference. Time for Thome to come up clutch. -

Great bunt by AJ!! Quentin should be looking away, and hit it into the bullpen bar. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 24, 2008 -> 01:16 AM) interesting to see how this goes... they're gonna make us earn that 10 game win streak. When I've seen highlights of Saunders, he's looked fantastic. Plus fastball, change-up, and offspeed pitch. -

This might be the 3 best pitchers we've faced in one series all season. -
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 23, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) If he doesn't progress in his career, I could see him as an Antonio Daniels type as well. I don't see much of a difference in potential between him and Derrick Rose right now. Rose is a natural PG from playing PG his whole life, but otherwise they offer the same height, same ridiculous athleticism, and same shooting ability at this point. Westbrook is a lockdown defender, which Rose doesn't offer consistently yet, but has the potential to. I guess the question is whether Westbrook will ever become a full-time PG or not. It's ironic due to all of his highlight dunks, but Westbrook is a terrible finisher in the paint. He has very little touch when close to the basket. If he was unable to thunder it home, he would miss a ton of layups. On the other hand, Rose has amazing body control and touch around the hoop.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 23, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) If you stingy Bulls take Derrick Rose, I would love to see the Heat trade down and end up with Russell Westbrook. He's just about on par with Derrick Rose and Beasley in my eyes. He's an elite athlete with the potential to play PG/SG next to Wade, and he's actually 40 days younger than Derrick Rose. I don't think his skills were ever featured in UCLA's half-court offense. Westbrook reminds me a lot of Antonio Daniels.

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 23, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) pirates have the worst unis on...i hate those so much... ugh nady blows a perfect double play opportunity...soriano must have lost track of outs Did he just drop the ball? Does it matter, Cubs just dominate the Pirates.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) I also just looked up thumb injuries and it indicated whether a full tear or partial tear that you are looking at 4 weeks without movement (basically to get it healthy) and than a 4 week recovery process. I'd say that an 8 week timetable is relatively accurate. Is that surgery though? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) I just googled the phrase "Torn thumb ligament" and came up with a couple NBA ones, Artest, Bibby both had that issue in the last year (poor kings!). Both times they cited 8-10 weeks as the recovery time. Same deal for Andy Laroche. Considering they're going to give this as much time as possible to heal, the only way they'd do surgery is if they knew it wouldn't improve during the season. I'm not worried, as this is very hypothetical. -
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 12, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) UNC's pitching has been amazing this year, which is especially enjoyable knowing that the staff is so young. The offense hasn't hit as many homers as I thought it would, but the top half of the order has hit very well. Should be a good series. Aren't they playing their home games in Cary with the huge power alleys?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) So, let's hypothetically imagine he has that issue and needs the surgery. Recovery time? Season-ending, I would assume. Didn't Orlando Hudson tear a ligament in his thumb last season and miss the remainder? -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 23, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) Can you post a link to this info? I thought he was supposed to have a "bone bruise" -- I didn't know it was a ligament problem. Either way, it's good to see Konerko get some time to heal and get BA some starting time in CF. I hope BA comes through--that would be such a major plus for this team if he were to fulfill their initial expectations of him. It's what Bruce Levine reported around 5:20. Worst-case scenario is he has a torn ligament in his thumb they can't find yet. That's unlikely though. -

PK had a cortisone shot today, and likely will be out this wknd. The ligament injury is bad though, and if it doesn't get better, it's possible they might have to explore the surgery route. -

QUOTE (quickman @ May 23, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) you asked who we could get for andersen and I gave you a name. I think they would make that trade, griffey and Dunn will both be traded within the next year. so there you go. I think Ray Durham for Brian Anderson and a pitching prospect is more likely. Nice to see you around here quick. -

QUOTE (quickman @ May 23, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) konerko needs some time off, maybe now is the time. Move swish to first, give konerko the weekend off. Have a backup outfielder in place if we need it. Ask and you shall receive. PK likely out this entire wknd. Anderson to start in CF, Swisher at 1b. -

QUOTE (JFields27 @ May 23, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) I believe Wise has been in the majors with the Reds before Braves I know for sure. I remember him hitting a long homer off of Kerry Wood in the game that clinched the Cubs wouldn't make the playoffs in 2004. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 23, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) You can get a defensive OF. But if we can get a 2b capable of leading off, it eliminates a two huge holes. Not at all anti-Brian, but at least philosophically one has to agree w/ that. Who are you going to get that can leadoff and play 2nd base for Anderson? The Orioles have Adam Jones in CF already, and the Pirates have McLouth. Thus, Roberts and Sanchez aren't likely. Anderson alone won't get you a starting 2nd baseman though.. -

With Swisher's struggles, I think Anderson's roster spot is safer now than anytime in the past few seasons.
