  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 02:04 AM) They didn't non-tender him. He was a FA. They declined to offer him arbitration, which would have resulted in either 2 extra top 75 picks (about $2M in signing bonuses), or 1-year of Riske at about $2.5MM. Sorry, I meant the arb. offer. Riske very well could have picked up that 2.5 million. Let's face it though, the Sox have very little appreciation for racking up draft picks.
  2. Real quick opinion, not like anyone cares. David Riske is a reliever who doesn't handle tough outs well. His stuff has deteriorated over the last few years, and I have no problem with them not tendering him last season.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:49 AM) James was fine in Maui outside of Chaminade. The Duke game he was getting to the lane whenever he wanted, he had four or five shots that went in and out. His shot selection was fine, too. His shot looks a lot better this year -- don't know if the stats bear that out. And no, Marquette's offense doesn't run better through Acker. That's silly. Acker is a good bench player, a good backup PG, nothing more. I just don't think James sets up his teammates well. He was a more well-rounded pg his freshman year. I saw those shots he rimmed out, it will be interesting to see if he keeps shooting with the confidence he showed. As you know, he had no confidence at the end of last year.
  4. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:29 AM) way to draw up a final play mike anderson. That was pathetic by Keon Lawrence down the stretch.
  5. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) Why is everyone having a hissy fit? It's November; not April. The second round of GM meetings hasn't even started yet! If you really think we should have outbid LAA and given Hunter somewhere around $100million then there's exhibit A as to why you're not the GM of this team. KW already added two pretty good players at the expense of a pitcher who was unspectacular (10-13) last year, in the walk year of his contract, and who publicly admitted that he has a knot in his shoulder which bothers him when he throws. Pitchers who have shoulder issues and who have logged 850IPs over the last four seasons are an extended DL stint waiting to happen. KW thought he would get Hunter, plain and simple. Also, Orlando Cabrera is in his walk year, and sounds like he has no intention of resigning with the Sox before the season.
  6. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) His whole season so far has been bad, but he's still on pace to be Jarret Jack's twin :-P. Not even close. J. Jack was a true pg, James is a shooting guard now. Marquette's offense runs better when Acker is creating, at least from when I've been watching.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:16 AM) No Dominic James? I thought you were his biggest fan, Fathom... His assists numbers are pathetic this year.
  8. Top 10 this year, in no particular order: - CDR - Hansbrough - Gordon - Love - Hendrix - Beasley - Rose - Singletary - Brian Laing - Augustin
  9. Randle and Pruitt's skill set is really quite pathetic for being seniors.
  10. Yabuta to sign a 2 yr, 6 mil dollar deal with the Royals
  11. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Any GM would say the same. All along, I've just said the one thing I don't want to hear from KW is the same tone he used last offseason with "market correction". I'm confident KW will take a new approach this offseason....but he can't start blaming other teams if they go the extra mile to get the player they want. He's the person who wasted 4.5 million on a SS we don't need now.
  12. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) I see what you mean but it doen't always work that neatly. Cabrera may have just been made available by the Angels for any number of reasons. Or, maybe something came up on the Angels radar where it suddenly made sense to pursue a one year pitcher. Things change rapidly and a player who wasn't known to be available can suddenly be very tradeable. That's not to discount the possibility you raise of KW simply not being aware. It's possible, but doubtful. Doesn't it seem obvious though that the Angels made these two moves in order to free up players to deal for Cabrera?
  13. That's a great article....only part that I don't want to see is KW saying he's bothered that a team could come in and blow their offer away.
  14. I'd rather have this deal for Wood than Linebrink's deal.
  15. Sean Taylor's in very critical condition after being shot in the groin during a robbery at his house.
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 05:15 AM) And the Mayo lovefest is sickening. If the internet feed wasn't so far behind, I'd listen to Reis. I'm extremely impressed with how under control he's played tonight. Floyd actually has these guys playing great.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) He's been caught abusing 2x now, and was stupid enough to not learn from the first positive test. I really don't want to be the team that gets caught when he gets his 3rd. In my mind, there's likely a huge correlation between people who took amphetamines and people who did steroids. I really hope KW does his research to make sure he doesn't sign someone that's going to get busted in a month.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) What am I missing with Mathis? He had a great 2005, but since then, as you say, he hasn't really been much different than Sweeney. If he was a Sox prospect, he would be getting trashed. I've always thought he looked terrible at the plate, but somehow, he still has value on the trade market.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) Still, he can say whatever he wants but we have no idea if he says that for leverage or not. And like I said I have zero problem with an outfield of Fields/Crawford/Dye and an infield of Crede/Cabrera/Richar/Konerko with AJP as the catcher. The only issue I'd have is what the hell the rotation will look like. That would be a tremendous starting lineup....but it's not going to happen. If we traded for Crawford, we'd have to give up Fields to either the Rays or for a prospect they're interested in.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) I had to shake my head at the conference call about Cabrera. He said it just sort of came out of no where, and Reagans approached him about a Cabrera trade. If Williams said he explored all his options before re-uping with Uribe, shouldn't he have found out the availability of Cabrera? It's just amazing to see where this is all heading this offseason. It's almost way too predictable. Trade Garland for non-prospects, sign Linebrink, get outbid by the "big" market teams for Hunter, and I'm sure we'll likely trade for Crisp. At least we'll have speed in the outfield with Crisp and Owens. That way, when our terrible starting staff outside of Buehrle and Vaz are on the mound, they can chase those gappers.
  21. Tampa would laugh at that trade offer. They probably want something similar to what the Marlins are going to get from the Angels for Miguel Cabrera. The Marlins are likely to get Kendrick, Mathis, Willits, and Ardenhart. Why in the world would Tampa want Uribe, an average pitching prospect in Danks, and a fading prospect in Sweeney?
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) Good lord. I threw up in my mouth when I heard Kenny say if he gets the right outfielder the Sox will only need one. Unless the OF he gets is Carl Crawford (who would leadoff and play CF) with Fields staying in LF and Crede manning 3rd I don't see how the Sox can do what they want without bringing in a left fielder that is a proven leadoff hitter (the Sox need a proven leadoff guy). Basically put, given that comment I would think that Carl Crawford is plan B and not Aaron Rowand. It's comments like the one he made yesterday which make me have zero faith in him to do the right thing. Looking back on it, I can't believe he signed Uribe to that deal if he had an intention to trade our best trade chip, Garland, for a SS.
  23. His article on Monday bashing Rex for stating that the Bears have a chance still might be the worst article I've ever seen. I could only imagine what his article would have been if the Bears QB had said that the team had no chance. He's a piece of s***, and it's too bad Ozzie never kicked his ass.
  24. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 03:56 AM) I don't want Crisp, and I fear we'd make a crap deal to get him as well. Me too....and then KW will b**** about contracts.
