Fields To Start In Left
Fields in LF almost guarantees no Owens in CF next year. I like this move....well done Sox.

Fields To Start In Left
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) What the hell is this bulls***? Gonzalez at third? Have we sunk this low, that a scrub who should be in AA will be playing third base for us so that we might get a look at him for next year? For what? Who else would we have play 3b? This is the smartest move they've done all year, as having Fields in LF is the best move they can make.

- Scott Rolen's defense right now.....not so good - I have no idea how Arizona has a good record. Their lineup looks worse than the White Sox's lineup. I pray that the Cubs don't face them in the first round of the playoffs.

Another amazing start by a Brewers pitcher....that team might not win 75 games.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) This is a classic. I just wish there would have been a "Singleton's next murder will be his first".

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) Here's only 12 years younger than than 50 year old young stud Jose Conterares who we have for two more years! Contreras is on my good side right now, as at least he came over to Buckvich and tried to cheer him up today.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) I agree with this completely. This off-season is make or break for Williams. He needs to have a dynamite off-season, and he knows it. I just am not ready to completely clean house after 1 terrible year, I just can't justiy that. The problem seems to be that the big four (KW, Ozzie, Walker, and Cooper) are a package deal. I'll be thrilled if KW can put together a good offseason, even if it doesn't translate well next year. I thought all along his offseason prior to this year sucked big time, so it will be fun to see what trade chips he even has now.

Can Scott Linebrink please blow out his elbow before we severely overpay for him.

Torii Hunter in CF for '08?
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) ? I just don't see how people can pencil him into next year's lineup as a leadoff hitter and a .380 OBP like everyone seems to think. Right now, he seems to chop a lot of grounders to the 2nd baseman or fly out to LF. The homers are nice, but it would be nice to see one of our fast hitters actually hit gappers once in a while. I'm not writing off Richar, I just can't picture the team being any good if he's in the 1/2 slots in the order. If we upgrade all over the field besides 2b, then he'd be a fine 9 hitter.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) So then why did Buehrle and Dye re-sign, for arguably below market value. Both have said a large reason they re-up'd was based on what Williams told them about next year's plan. I could see Williams and Ozzie blowing smoke up the fans ass, but not Mark and JD. Oh, they'll "try" to sign guys. KW told a player on the Sox after the season ended last year that Juan Pierre would be their leadoff hitter, and Scotty Pods wouldn't be back with the team. Do you actually think they'll get into bidding wars for Hunter in the 5 year, 65 million range?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Watching McDougal implode--again... this is like watching The Bad News Bears. Or "Major League." We're so bad that Boston must be BORED at this point, because we give them zero competition. We're like the team that always "plays" the Globetrotters. Red Sox fans must be stunned they actually lost in three games in 2005 against a similar core group of players. I know watching these last few games, I am. This is like Major League players against A ball players.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) When Hawk who obviously has some inside, is trying to sell the public on stiffs like Gonzalez and Owens, you can only cringe. A back-up outfielder should be the easiest position in the majors to fill, especially with guys in the minors. Having to play Gonzalez the last few days in LF against a righty makes me cry.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) When Hawk who obviously has some inside, is trying to sell the public on stiffs like Gonzalez and Owens, you can only cringe. Personally, I think all this talk about being spenders this offseason is bulls***. They'll act like they went after people, and then b**** about the contracts being too much and bad for business. I can't wait to see who's fired next, as we know it will be another scapegoat.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) I agree it's time for massive shakeup. This is just pathetic like I've never seen. I admit I'm his biggest critic....but how has Ozzie Guillen stayed off the hot seat? When you combine that with KW's job security, it just seems like it's being run by a bunch of cowards.

White Sox/Red Sox, 2:55 PM start
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) This organization should be embarrassed they cannot compete at all. Its about time the "shock" of how horrible they are wears off and heads need to roll, from every level. KW should look at the bullpen he dislocated his shoulder patting himself on the back for and resign right now. They're so far away from competing, it's scary. Assuming they trade Garland this offseason, that leaves you with two starters who you can even count on to have an ERA south of 5.50 next year. You have a horrible bullpen besides Bobby Jenks. Then, you have just no depth on offense. You need a new LF/CF/SS, and have to get better reserves. So basically.....unless they're willing to go on a spending spree (which won't happen with all the big contracts we have tied up right now), this team is looking at a ton of holes again next year.

Torii Hunter in CF for '08?
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) OK. So you see it as an either/or situation. I suppose now with Dye back and their love of Owens they feel only one OF spot is open. I'm just stunned by the love for Owens...and even more shocked by the love for Richar. I can't see how a team can actually think they can compete with the big boys with those two guys as starters, and crappy players like who we have in the bullpen and Mr. Danks.
-
White Sox/Red Sox, 2:55 PM start
This team is just f***ing terrible. Gotta love the positioning, as even in a DP situation, we don't really play Ortiz to pull on the infield. I'm surprised Ozzie Guillen hasn't quit.

Torii Hunter in CF for '08?
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) I still don't like the guy and I have a hard time forgetting the uncalled for plowing of Jamie Burke. Well, since Ozzie never retaliated, it must have been clean, and the Sox must have forgiven him.

Torii Hunter in CF for '08?
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) Do you believe that? If so, what does it say about Rowand? Yes, I believe it, and I would predict there's about a 75 pct chance that either Hunter or Rowand are signed by the Sox this offseason.

Welcome to last place...
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) LOL! I wonder what site that was. I guess I'm not too worried about next year because this year has stank from day one. Literally. I can't imagine another year happening like this, even with the current lineup. It started with the first batter of the season, shockingly enough. At least Buehrle re-signed.
-
White Sox/Red Sox, 2:55 PM start
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Seems like Buehrle is on. How is Andy Gonzalez on this team? Ugh. Why even ask questions like that anymore? It's absolutely embarassing that when Jim Thome is out, Andy Gonzalez is our only possible sub. At least we have 8 relievers on the roster now.

Torii Hunter in CF for '08?
There's a lot of talk within the Sox organization right now that Hunter is the main target this offseason, and I think recent media reports are suggesting that as well.

Welcome to last place...
QUOTE(Jeremy @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) I think you hit the nail on the head and I'm not saying that out of frustration. Looking at things, not emotionally but rationally, I think it will be hard for a team on pace for 71 wins to improve the necessary 10 games to finish .500 in any of the next three or so seasons when there's such little help available in the minors. Or you can spend 300 million dollars on talent in the offseason, and hope the rest of your division sucks.

GAME TWO!!!!
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 04:07 AM) I feel Fathom's pain. Going to that debacle. What's it like at the Cell when the team is getting clubbed like that? Is it dead silent? Are fans just talking about how bad the team is or joking about winning it all just 2 years ago? Sadly, it was loud with all the Boston fans there. People around me were laughing when Erstad was announced as the 3rd hitter. It was amazing to me to see how Danks doesn't fool anyone. I don't think he got a swing and miss the entire night from the Red Sox, and every pitch their hitters took was a ball.
