  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) I know what Morissey is getting at here, but there is one thing that is bothering me about this. Some of the things that he is talking about, are things that deserve attention. For instance, tell me if you punch a co-worker at any other job, would you still be around? Hell no. Why are baseball players special? Its one thing to get on them for what they say, but is quite acceptable for what they do. Its the samething for "youthful indiscressions". How many of you have jobs where you could get busted for using speed on the job, and they wouldn't say or do anything about it, and in fact not tell anyone about your crime? How many jobs could you threaten your wife and kids lives, and they would just make you have a paid suspension? Please. How many jobs could the manager of the organization call someone a f*g or swear on live radio and still have their job?
  2. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 24, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) Yeah but can he grind like our leadoff hitter? Scary how good the leadoff hitters for the Tigers and Indians are going to be for the next 10 years. There's no doubt in my mind that the only chance the Sox have to make the playoffs is via the Wild Card. With that in mind, I think the Indians and Yankees are our biggest competitors.
  3. The Tigers 1-5 in their batting order = sensational. Granderson's on pace to have quite the extra base hit line this year. 35-15-25 isn't out of the question.
  4. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 24, 2007 -> 05:16 AM) I had us losing this one before the game started. We're incapable of sweeping a team right now. On Comcast, they said that's 6 straight times we've failed to sweep a team after winning the first two games. Also, I hope I didn't understand this right, but Ozzie said he put Garland back on the mound for the 7th so that he could retire one hitter and leave with confidence. I guess retiring the side in order during the 6th inning lowered Garland's confidence.

    LOST! thread

I'm shocked people were able to acquire 100 pct authentic spoilers a week ago for this episode.
  6. QUOTE(Iguchicago @ May 24, 2007 -> 04:09 AM) You guys would still call Ozzie an idiot if he took Garland out before the 7th, and a reliever gave up those runs. It's not like our pen has been dominating lately. Go back in look in the game thread....people were questioning why Garland was starting that inning well before we got into trouble. I can't imagine how someone watching the game tonight would have thought putting Garland back on the mound for the 7th was a good idea.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 24, 2007 -> 03:27 AM) You mean that Pablo is not the best bat to come off the bench with the bases loaded. That, letting Garland start the 7th, and letting Erstad face a tough lefty were mind-boggling managerial decisions. Erstad is worse than most pitchers against LHP.
  8. Bad offense, horrible base running, and terrible managing....a recipe for a loss.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) Biggest LOL tonight was Hawk saying Willie Harris had the best range of any 2B he has seen. I guess we never knew how blessed we were to witness the three best 2B in terms of range in succession when we saw Durham, Harris, and Alomar.
  10. Oh Hawk: a bad break = guys mistiming his jump and bad base running?
  11. QUOTE(Reddy @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:44 AM) except that that was well hit... just like his first at bat. things will start falling eventually. His first out was hard hit. The rest have been lazy fly balls. He's just not getting anything behind his swings.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:41 AM) It's easy to blame Ozzie. He didn't have the bat in his hands feebly with bags loaded and only one out. It's not like the other players you mention are great hitters either. It scares me to think that I believe the 7th and 8th inning were some of the worst managing I've ever seen by Ozzie from a strategic standpoint.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) Too bad we don't have a hitter off the bench who does very well against lefties... oh, right, hey Toby Hall, how you doin'? But what would we do if AJ got hurt in the 9th inning?
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:33 AM) We just got managerial-owned that inning. You have two guys on the bench with 10 times the amount of power that Ozuna has. Then, you let Erstad, who is brutal against LHP, face a guy who is very tough on lefty hitters. These last two innings couldn't have been managed worse if Ozzie tried.
  15. Ozzie's playing the percentages right into the A's hands. What a pathetic piece of managing here.
  16. Why Timo when you need an extra base hit? Why not Toby Hall or Terrero?
  17. Sinker ball pitcher vs ground ball hitter....please avoid the DP Mackowiak!
  18. That was literally the same exact hit as the game-winner against KRod.
  19. Jenks rarely throws his fastball past people anymore. I'd guess that 80 pct of his strike outs come via an offspeed pitch. Whenever Jenks can get 2 strikes on a hitter without using his hook, he has a great chance at getting that hitter out.
  20. QUOTE(Reddy @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:16 AM) i wouldnt say its corpseball quite yet... if this continues then yes but i agree with fathom that i think tonight is just a bad matchup Only problem is that 3 of our next 4 games are bad match-ups. Time for this offense to start beating good pitchers.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 24, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) Corpseball is back in full affect. We score like we are just insane for 4 days, then poof on a hot night at the Cell the home runs swings come back and a pitcher 2 hits us. This type of pitcher is just a bad match-up for us. He never gives up the long ball, which is obviously the biggest strength of this offense. Guys like Uribe are typically worthless against a pitcher like this, and sadly, Iguchi has become that way also.
  22. Give credit to Gaudin....he's putting his fastball wherever he wants it right now. As Rock says, at least this is another series win. It's going to be tougher than many think to win the Tampa series.
