QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) Too bad we didn't go for Marquis or Lilly. Until the wind starts blowing out and the ball jumping, Lilly is going to dominate the NL. I'd do anything for one of our pitchers to go 7 innings, 1 run.

You knew Mariotti was waiting to write this one...

QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Well, the main difference with that is almost everyone here wanted the Sox to succeed, and I truly believe that Hysteriotti roots for failure because an angry column is 1,000 times easier to write than a congratulatory one. He's a miserable little troll who unfortunately has far too great a presence for my liking. I can assure that Mariotti wants the Sox to go 0-162. -
I figured with Sowers being a finesse pitcher, maybe lefties would have more success vs him. However, righties definitely hit better against him last year than lefties. I have no clue what Ozzie is doing. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) So when do we suppose Anderson's first start will come? Johan? Harden maybe? We better find a way to win a few of our next 3 games, or we're likely looking at being 1-6 or 0-7 having to face those two studs back-to-back.
-
Poor Brian Anderson. I can't believe that we're not letting our toughest out against LHP, Ozuna, play against Sowers.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 06:52 AM) At this rate this board is gonna be unbearable by April 5th... I shudder to think what it will be like if we lose tomorrow. If Buehrle does poorly, I'm sure there will be 10 threads asking what we can get for him now, etc.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 06:49 AM) Or maybe when Liriano blitzed the entire league? He's not around this year. Neither is Radke, who was also a major reason for their turnaround. It wasn't just Liriano though. He started playing Punto at 3rd base every day, and he did a great job of keeping Mauer fresh and utilizing Redmond effectively. Neshek, Reyes, Crain, Rincon, and Nathan is a great bullpen though, especially if Reyes puts up a 1.00 ERA again.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 06:42 AM) Flash gets his wish. We could draft Jordan Danks first, and then KW's horrific offseason will make sense.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 06:41 AM) I can't wait. And did anybody catch the Oakland/Seattle game last night? Rich Harden is sick! If he's healthy, he, along with Felix Hernandez, will challenge Johan for the CY. We'll be facing Harden next week...that should be a lot of fun.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 05:58 AM) Last place really isn't that awesome. So....who is likely to be the first pick in the 2008 draft? What needs do we have?

- I really like Iguchi down in the order - Jim Thome is one homer closer to 500

Pods is playing

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 04:47 AM) Tony Bautista, Ramon Ortiz and Sidney Ponson all shake their heads in agreement. I don't comprehend. Last year, their fortunes turned around when Gardenhire pulled the plug on Batista and Lohse sooner, rather than later.

The call by Farmer on the last play of the game was about as bad as you'll ever hear. Singleton is good, but there's no excitement at all in his voice. When MacDougal had that big strikeout with the bases loaded to end the inning, there was not a shred of excitement in his voice.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Actually, I didn't even notice the mistake. There's no alterior motive, here. So you won't stop updating if the numbers aren't in the favor of your argument?
-
The only reason I'd advocate a new pitching coach is because some of these starters seem like they could use a new pespective on how they go after hitters. We can't use the tired arm excuse from last year anymore.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:45 PM) I guess you could call it surviving. Seriously that was the most miserable thing ever. The worst moment was when Jenks gave up that 2 out, 2 rbi hit to Aaron Boone in the first game of that crucial series (the day before the birth of the Rally Crede). I could literally feel my body temp increase.

2 games into the season, and someone's calling for a coaches head? This isn't the NFL. He'll get at least this season to have our pitchers start living up to expectations. If this team is anywhere near the BP predictions, then we're going to have a lot of changes.

Chester Frazier's Father passes away
fathom replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) Yeah, he is the definition of energy off the bench, solid reserve point guard. If McCamey is as good as advertised (a la can start next year), I think Chet will have a great season, assuming that is he doesn't transfer due to the grief he's going through, which is possible based on hearsay (and if he were to go back closer to home, I'd have a hard time blaming him). I think he'll remain at UIUC now. Best wishes to him....he's one of the guys on the team that actually seems to appreciate the opportunity he has. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) What's even funnier is that fathom was trying to blow steam up everyone's butts last September by making comments like "say hello to our new LF Juan Pierre" after Pods would do something bad. Now he likes him. Fathom, do you still think Garland is the most underrated Sox player and that Aardsma sucks and has no hope? I don't recall ever saying anything bad about Pierre. He was definitely KW's main target going into this offseason, and I always stated that if we're going to play Ozzieball, he'd be a good fit. Yes, I think Garland is underrated and that Aardsma won't be good. With a small strike zone and his shoulder still being tight, I'm surprised Garland didn't give up 20 runs. Garland has got to find a way to come into camp in better shape though (not weight wise, but arm wise). QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:25 PM) He's gotta get on base to get picked off. FWIW, I enjoyed your posting today.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) Why does it always have to be about Podsednik? Personally, I don't care if he is out there or not, but I am tired of him being the whipping boy by this board for every weakness in this team's armour. There is PLENTY of blame to go around, namely 1) Dye getting noticeably older and more awkward in the field (and for all the people claiming "Thome is just not clutch," why do you suppose Dye had such incredible offensive numbers last season? ahem, Thome; 2) Iguchi, among a few others, repeatedly failing to execute in the late innings; 3) Repeated failure to hold leads, by both the starters and the bullpen; 4) Poor defense; And on and on and on. But yes, it is much easier to claim Podsednik he should be in AAA and then the White Sox would go 162-0. Dye was horrible in the outfield, but his offense made up for it. I'm not concerned about him at all. He had about 45 millions reason to do good this year. Our pitching sucks, plain and simple. When KW was questioning their velocity about two weeks ago, we should have known we were in trouble.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) BTW, I am not even going to touch the game thread because 1) I was at the game, and 2) Its long as hell, but I really liked the Sox just not playing with Hafner at all, but if you are going to do that, make sure you can get the next batter out. Thanks Victor..... (Thats no knock on Ozzie, I thought he did most everything right, the players just have to execute.) Yep, I don't blame him for how he handled everything. He might have too much confidence in Sisco right now, but that happens early in the year. I didn't like him having Pods bat against a LHP late in the game, where that should just automatically result in Anderson going into the game to bat/defensive purposes.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) Todays game...made my want to seriously kill myself How did you survive the 2005 collapse?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) fathom, there's nothing on earth that could ever make you optimistic. Thanks....and that's not true at all. I'm very optimistic about Iguchi down in the order. When I say things that make me optimistic, I mean strategical things or personnel options, not just game results.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) well, he already said on the boers and bernstien show yesterday that pods would play tomorrow Super....I predict he gets picked-off.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) The good news is that it would seem logical (not that logic is a friend to Ozzie Guillen) for Pods to sut vs. a lefty tomorrow. An even better idea might be to change the locks on the door to the lockerroom so Ozzie can't even try to play Pods tomorrow. Don't worry, Ozzie is going to play as many lefties as possible vs Johan this weekend.
