This is a fantastic deal for the Yankees, as they could have just let Sheffield go and get nothing in return. Sanchez and Hughes are two of the better pitching prospects in the minors.

Tigers like them former steroid users, don't they?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) If we offer him arbitration and he accepts, are people then interested in keeping him for roughly the same salary? No!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) I think everyone who is a fan of the whitesox would have preferred to win the WS last year over being "competitive" for the next few years. Young would have spent the season in AAA which really isnt much of a value to a team that is a favorite to win it all. Vaz was easily our 2nd best pitcher all of this year, so im not sure that Haeger could have given us that much of an effort. Vaz only had 2 months with an ERA over 4.00, which is pretty damn good. I think he figured out alot about how to pitch in this league this year, and I expect a pretty decent year out of him this upcoming season. Hindsight is great and all, but the most valuable piece to the 2006 whitesox team was Vaz, much more than a player who would have spent the whole year in AAA. Vazquez was a bad pitcher last year. Even his stats are misleading, as he always found a way to ruin any momentum this team had. Just because some of our pitchers sucked, it doesn't mean he was "our 2nd best starter". It's too bad we didn't keep Young, and let him play in CF after Anderson's brutal first 75-100 at-bats.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 04:41 AM) As in KW would take Garcia for Young, or that Daniels would not take Garcia for Young, or both? Just curious, of course If the Rangers would take Garcia for Young, I'm 100 pct confident that KW would drive Garcia down to Arlington.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 03:26 AM) Getting a gold glove defensive SS and a #3 starting pitcher for a mediocre defensive SS who's a good hitter on a team packed with good hitters...something isn't clicking there as far as I'm concerned. Daniels would take Garcia for Young, and that I'm entirely sure of. I don't think KW would - not because Young wouldn't be a great addition to the Sox, but because the Sox have much bigger needs than SS or 2B. The nicest way I can put it is that I severely disagree with this post.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) I wouldn't mind him in LF. BTW does the Sox current LF have any trade value whatsoever? I would think he could fetch a B or C prospect at best. To the Padres to replace Dave Roberts? Maybe we could get Jon Adkins back for him.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) I saw him in the minors and the majors this year, and he looked bad. I know that the artist formerly known as JimH was hoping we'd sign this guy during the course of the 2006 season. It's pretty shameful that we'll give him a 40 man spot, but not Heath Phillips (unless I haven't heard the latest news). I quickly wanted to add that his stats got a lot better after I saw him play. I do remember him facing Cotts this year at the big league level, and he K'd weakly on 3 pitches.
-
The writing is on the wall....Juan Pierre will be our starting CF next year.

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) They sure are quick to give Anderson the 'ol heave-ho. Like many have said already, there must be something we don't know. The man hit very well in the 2nd half, and the only reason his average was so low was because of his dreadful first half. As for the low power numbers, it was his first full season! Give me a break. The White Sox are usually good about sticking with young players, so there HAS to be something else to this story. Very well? We can say he improved over his dreadful first half, but he was far too inconsistent with the bat, and really wasn't a factor on offense the entire year.

QUOTE(beautox @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) If BA is shipped off please let it be to the Marlins. Or to the Blue Jays, along with McCarthy, for Vernon Wells.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Hopefully the stomach ailment is nothing serious. On the other hand, the countdown until the Sox get a new centerfielder is about 15 days and countin.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) His cousin, apparently. But remember, it's another internet rumor. TIFWIW. No, this is someone totally different. This guys has been involved with the AAU Memphis scene for a while, and he has serious connections in the shoe industry.
-
A very influential person in the Memphis AAU basketball scene is saying that Rose is going to Memphis.
-
More than anyone on the team, Garcia is the one guy who I can picture mysteriously adding 5 mph to his fastball during his contract year.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 02:15 AM) 2006 should have been a lesson to everyone on here that no matter how much offense you get on a team, its the pitching that will ultimately decide your fate. Yep...and when our offense was good during the first half of the year, we had a 6 game lead in the Wild Card. Then, our offense started to struggle, and the Twins passed us in a heartbeat.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) There is more of a chance of us finding young Of'ers and FA of'ers than finding a cheap, young, good starting pitcher. When you factor in the team's financial flexibility and the barren landscape of available FA pitchers, you dont trade BMAC. One of the reasons I wouldn't panic at the sight of a McCarthy trade is that I don't feel like Ozzie is a big fan of him. In a perfect world, I would have loved to see McCarthy starting for the Sox in 2006. However, our organization really screwed up that situation last year, and now I wouldn't mind cashing in McCarthy's stock when it's still very high. I would never suggest trading McCarthy for an above average MLB player. The only two guys who I would be willing to give him up for, who are possible guys on the market, are Crawford and V. Wells.
-
I'd trade McCarthy for Crawford in a heartbeat. Crawford has Hall of Fame potential, and McCarthy isn't a "can't miss" prospect. Considering we're scouting young pitchers around baseball, I'll take my chances with KW finding some young arms for this team.
-
I can't believe Sheffield would want to come to a city where R. Kelly lives nearby!! With that said, I really don't believe the Sox are interested in Sheffield. He doesn't fit any of the needs that we have, and he doesn't seem like an Ozzie type player.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) who wants an old ass steroid jerk on there team. Which player are we talking about in this trade proposal?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 05:01 AM) Mack is a much better hitter than Cintron, and who's to say that Mack replacement won't be misused by Guillen because of his lack of faith in BA? To me, Cintron is much more valuable. He can play 3 positions soundly enough that you don't cringe every time the ball is hit to him. It's a hell of a lot easier to find a back-up outfielder than it is someone who can play 2B/SS/3B. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Mackowiak fan. However, his salary is pretty high this upcoming season, and I'd rather try to open up some payroll to sign a legit back-up catcher with the money we can save by getting rid of him.
-
I think Mackowiak should be the odd man out. With Cintron and Gload on the bench, I'm happy with the lefty bats we have. Also, getting rid of Mackowiak would ease our blood pressure, as Ozzie won't be able to keep putting him in CF.

Dave Roberts looking like a strong possibility
fathom replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only issue I have with Roberts is that he seems to get injured every year. I know he's had some hamstring issues over the past few years which have lingered as the season went on. -
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) The fact that Rose is going to visit ILL again, makes me believe he will come. Rose would not give ILL just a courtesy visit, so obviously he is seriously entertaining. Being a true point guard, Rose would be a sensation as a freshman at ILL. He would have arguably the best shooter in the nation in Jamar Smith, a true stud in Brian Randle and some depth in the interior with Pruitt and Carwell. At IU he would share the limelight with Gordon who would probably outshine him because of his offensive abilities, Memphis really doesnt look that good for weapons around him. It makes sense the ILL is gonna get another close look. Has a player ever produced less on the court than Brian Randle to have some fans consider him a "true stud". Reports out of Illini practices state that he's no more active on the offensive end than he was last year. I just love to see how so many Illini fans have to wipe that egg off their face now when it comes to their constant b****ing about Reggie Rose, Adidas, etc.
