QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:02 AM) ESPN has it 2 year for 11 mil.. so that would be 5.5mil It's wrong, it's 3/11.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Tell them that Glendon Rusch, Neifi Perez, and Scott Eyre will earn a combined $10.5 million in 2006. Tell them that they could have signed Brian Giles with that money instead of three mediocre players.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Eyre's a good addition for them but I wonder if they overpaid and by the sounds of it they probably did. The stuff we're hearing is 3/11, which is way too much for him. Like I recently said, I'm very thankful the White Sox didn't sign him for even 3/9.

QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) I agree. It makes for a good laugh at work when you need one. Levineline doesn't lie. He reports as much as he can find out. I'm sure the agents and GM's don't inform him of everything and he attempts to put it together I think some people just take everything that someone like Levine says as GOSPEL! Every time there's another rumor by a reporter, there's a 15 page thread about where the person will play (or "where would he play?"). I guess it makes for fun conversation as long as you don't take it too seriously.

This is round 1 of Cubs panic mode 2005. I expect them to overpay for quite a few players this offseason.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Eyre is better than Remlinger however this guy is pretty much a lefty specialist. You don't pay a Left Specialist 4 million a year. It's only 2 years with a buyout. So the buyout must be worth around $1.5 million. YIKES! Remlinger was pretty damn good before the Cubs got him. The thing that I don't get is that most of the top hitters in the NL Central are righties. I don't think lefty specialist was such a glaring hole for them. Oh well....I'm very thankful the Sox didn't sign him for that money.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) Jim Hendry should be fired for giving him a contract like that. Eyre is good but no middle relief pitcher should be making that kind of money. Shows what Eyre values though. They overpayed for him. It really is Mike Remlinger, part deux.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Bruce Levine was right about something. He is reporting on ESPN 1000 that the Cubs signed Scott Eyre to a 3 year, $11 million contract. What a horrible contract. :puke Wow, that's an awful, awful deal!

Geoff Blum struggled when he was on the Sox during the regular season. But you're right, he was brought in for versatility on defense as well as secruity in case Crede's back was too bad. And yes, he'll forever be a Sox legend. I think people were upset with the acquisition because they had their hopes set on a bigger name at the deadline.

QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Please. I know bashing this guy is the fashionable thing to do around here, including posting stupid pictures, but this guy is quite well connected. He reports what he hears and what other people tell him. He is not a GM or an owner, and those are the only people who should be believed because they are the only people with control over the situation. When Everett was traded to the White Sox, he was all over that a week or two beforehand. He was all over the Freddy Garcia trade. Jermaine Dye, the Contreras trade, there are other examples. Yes, he has been way off on things and he was stupid to comment on the Omar Vizquel situation the way he did. But bottom line, anyone who RELIES on rumors coming from sports reporters and then says they never get anything right should understand what the guy's role is. It is to report what he hears. Some things pan out, others don't. I never was on the bash Levine bandwagon until this last regular season when he was wrong with basically every single possible transaction he mentioned. I don't judge someone by how nice or mean they are. It's his job to get the inside scoop on possible deals, and he was very off this season in what he proclaimed. Is it his fault he was wrong? No! However, his credibility is quite low with me and many other Sox fans right now.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:56 AM) Well if you could find a quote it would be appreciated. I just know on real gm, bbb, etc... when skiles says anything it is talked about, and alot. I understand, but I haven't seen it posted anywhere. However, I swear on my poor reputation on soxtalk that I heard Skiles say this.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:51 AM) Why is this not on any message board i have looked on? Don't see any mentions of it. It was either last Monday or Thursday night. I think it was more likely a Thursday night, as he's on the radio weekly.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:48 AM) I don't think thats exactly what he said, but I don't think Skiles expects him to be a starter, but he does think he'll be a good player. Skiles is doing everything he can to push Gordon and quite frankly if thats exactly what he said, I wouldn't disagree. It's exactly what he said. They asked him what Gordon has to do to become a starter, and Skiles said he doesn't think he'll ever be good enough to start for the Bulls.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) Skiles was proving a point about something. He was frustrated with Gordon for most of the 2nd half (hence you saw Pargo getting a lot of minutes). Don't ask me why, I'm not the coach, but I had no problem with it. The play was drawed up for Hinrich and he missed and the Bulls had a couple 2nd chance opportunities but didn't succeed. Although I'd agree he probably should have been in for Duhon (who isn't a good shooter). Gordon is what he is.....an offensive machine off the bench who's not tall or strong enough to play defense. If you're not going to put him on the court when you're down 1 with the ball at the end of the game, you're not putting your team in the best possible position to succeed.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) Because Gordon was playing absolutely HORRID. In fact he gave up a wide open 3 because he had zero faith in his shot (or something) cause I almost never see him turn down an open shot (instead he threw the ball away trying to pass it to Noc). Gordon had 15 pts, as well as being 3-3 for 3 pt range. The Great Chris Duhon was 1-10 from the field tonight. Since Duhon was likely to not be able to drive and dish in that possession, you need to have Gordon on the court.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:38 AM) Half the players in the league don't play a lick of defense. I think Skiles is just a stubborn mofo. When I heard Skiles on the radio state that Gordon will never be good enough to start in the NBA (last week he said this), I just had to shake my head.
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:32 AM) The lesson is simple. You don't play both sides of the floor, you don't play at all, and Gordon is absolutely etrocious defensively. Supposedly, he worked on his D during the offseason. Yet to see a difference. I was talking about having Gordon in for the last offensive possession. He's proven he's a clutch player. If Skiles has such a problem with Gordon, then trade his ass for some post offense.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 05:26 AM) He can't play defense. jump head fake him and he will jump. Who's that?
-
How in the f*** do you not have Gordon in the game? Skiles really does hate Ben with a passion.
-
4 Bulls players all went after Telfair. Not very good team defense.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) ^^^^^^^^^^ Just hope the Knicks continue to blow. Then we grab a Shelden Williams or Tiago Splitter. Shelden has no offensive moves. I don't think he projects very well for what the Bulls need. He's a mini-Chandler.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) Well that or they could get a good pick from the Knicks and turn that into a solid low post player. Lemarcus Aldridge is a stud post player who will go pro after this year.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) Meaning the Bulls best option may be via trade. Which means the annual Kevin Garnett to the Bulls trade rumor by Sam Smith.
-
He's not a post guy, but the Bulls have long had their eyes on Peja.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) 3 3's in the quarter for the Bulls. Noc shot looking better as of late. Any shot at all at acquiring Zach Randolph. He's an Eddy Curry like presence and kind of has an Eddy Curry like attitude (thats not a good thing) but I have no idea if the Blazers would move him. I've heard some absolutely horrific stories about Randolph's attitude.
