  1. Sorry Heads, but any movie that equates Iowa to Heaven is just plain comedy to me.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Let's just hope and pray that's it's not a Sox player. In no particular order, I'd say the most likely candidates are Sheffield, Damon, Nixon, Rowand, and Finley.
  3. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Just reading this makes me totally sick. If it is PODS the will say that the homer would not have gone out. If it is Dye they would day that is the reason he was the MVP, and if it Rowand we eill still be known as the Black Sox even though he had a horrible post season. Instead of celebrating the World Series, the organization would have to answer questions about the steroid scandal the entire offseason. It would be a huge blow against the momentum that this franchise would otherwise have.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Him running in and yelling and going nuts was one of the more awesome things I saw.... He also might have been the happiest guy in the postgame stuff when interacting with his family.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) Until 12:30, then the Rally runs from 12:30-1:30. Will Crede start the rally, and Rowand end it?
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) IF it turns out to be a Sox player, I'd be guessing Pods and it would be from his injury and rehab. It was a mistake, he was following Doctor's orders, etc. There would be plenty of innocent explainations. I know this is pure speculation, but I would be surprised if it was Pods just based on his reaction after they won. He seemed to be the happiest guy on the field, and definitely didn't strike me as someone who's about to bring shame to himself and the team's accomplishments.
  7. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) I hate that we don't have the info now. I hate not knowing. If it is a White Sox player, it likely won't be announced for another few weeks. I'm sure Selig wants as much time to pass between the WS and the announcement as possible.
  8. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) I have not read this anywhere else nor is it on ESPN (the makers of all things controversial), so i wonder how "true" this is. You might remember that a while back 2 big names were supposedly tested positive for roids but nothing ever came of that. COuld just be someone looking for a story. You actually have someone in this rumor saying they were involved in the appeals process. Also, the fact there was a blurb in the paper about it saying the agent confirmed the situation makes me think there's more credibility to this rumor than others.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) The media would not be the only ones going Apes***. I for one would be as well. I would hate that person for life. Absolutely despise them. I do not want cheaters on my team. That's why it's very likely the player wouldn't be back next season.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) Let's make up a hypothetical situation. . . Say a big name player decides to I don't know, spit in the face of an umpire and he does so near the end of the season with his team in good shape to make the playoffs. Now MLB has to suspend him, what do they do? You can't have him suspended for the playoffs, no, so instead they'll hold off the punishment until the beginning of the next season instead of having this player miss any time in the playoffs. Similar situation? I don't know, maybe I'm just tire. Wow, great point about the suspension taking place during the regular season. Are we sure that players have to serve their suspension during the regular season?
  11. After having more time to think about this, I have to change my tone. If it is a Sox player, it would really tarnish the Sox World Series win for a lot of people. The national media is going to go apes*** if a Sox player was allowed to participate during the entire playoffs if they had already tested positive.
  12. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) My money is on Timo! The blog said a starting outfielder that we would care about. I have a hard time imagining that Pods or Rowand was on the juice this year. If they were....they need their money back.
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) This scares me to death. Could you please explain to me why? It's not like their got busted with it in their system during the playoffs.
  14. Question for my fellow Sox fans: With the Sox's strict stance against steroids, do you think they would bring back a player if he did get busted for them? I would think that in this case, with the media criticism that the player/organization would face, it would be hard to bring back a player. Let's just hope it's not a Sox player.
  15. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) About 1 million times worse. Rowand played OK, but was not decisive in any games. Pods won Game 2 with the walkoff, Dye game 4 with the bingle up the middle (no steroids there). I'm praying that it is not a White Sox. Let it be Manny. The thing is, THEY WEREN'T USING STEROIDS DURING THE PLAYOFFS!
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) If boosters were paying football recruits, what must the Illini baskeball team's payroll be? No wonder Dee Brown didn't go pro. Looking at how Weber's recruited, the boosters must have gone to Kansas with Self.
  17. I've seen Sheffield suggested a couple of places, which makes me think that maybe some people know certain things. I'd say the two people on the list I'm sure it's not are Matsui and Dye.
  18. If Carroll was involved in the appeals process, then I definitely put more stock into the rumor than the Damon/Clemens stuff.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) f***ing if ARow gets caught juicing that will taint this WS so bad There's just as much of a chance as it being another Sox outfielder. Of course, there's just as much of a chance as it being anyone else. I highly doubt it's Dye though, who seemed skinnier this year than in year's past. Don't worry Sox fans....sit back, relax, and enjoy it!
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) This scares me a lot. Doesn't bother me too much. Since the players weren't on roids when the playoffs happened, I'm not going to worry about it tampering the results. I'd guess that about half of the outfielders in the playoffs were on the juice in the last few years.
  21. Here's another underrated play in terms of impact on the Sox success. The whole PK "BS" missed liner against Michael Ryan that allowed the Twins to tie the game in the 9th. That freak play allowed Jenks the chance to close the game in the next inning. Who knows if he would have been allowed to close a game and get some experience in the role prior to the postseason.
  22. I know there's other threads about this, but I think it's amazing that you can argue that 23 of the 25 players on the Sox postseason roster made a significant contribution that helped them win a game in the playoffs. Only Hermanson and Timo didn't have a true positive moment. That's amazing to think of the "team" effort that happened this season.
  23. The question I'm still waiting to be answered would be: What's the rule about players being allowed to advance if Uribe would have ended up completely in the crowd? I can't recall if it's one or two bases. I remember Carlos Pena having that happen to him a few years ago vs the Sox.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Not an underrated play but just something that seemed so little in spring training: how about Aaron being in center when it was talked about that Scotty would be the centerfielder when he was first traded here. I was just thinking about that, how something seemingly so small could have made a huge difference. And there were a lot of people on here who were screaming that it would be the wrong decision to have Pods in CF. The stability that this team had almost all season on the field is remarkable, with only the Frank injury changing the dynamic for more than 15 or so games.
  25. In my opinion, the one play that sticks out in my mind that got the Sox on such a roll late in the season was Everett's big 2 RBI triple in the 3rd game against the Tigers. Up to that point, the Sox looked as tight as can be, and if you remember, were just brutal with RISP in that series. After that hit, it seemed the floodgates opened up, and we went on to win 16 of our last 17 games.
