QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) 1 last thought on Lawton... WHERE WOULD HE PLAY...MAYBE SIT NEXT TO GRIFFEY ON THE BENCH Someone like Lawton could have started for two weeks when Pods got hurt, and then been our 4th outfielder when Pods returned.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) He's f***ing hurt, and he's been that way since the break. It killed his effectiveness on the bases. Where do you guys get this stuff. If he's hurt, can't steal, can't defend, and can't drive in runs, then bench his f***ing ass.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) He leads the f***ing league in stolen bases. He stopped stealing once he got hurt. That's what he's saying....he's worthless now that he can't steal.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:33 AM) Jenks looks good but he needs some experience in some tight games, even though monday he came in with guys on already and yesterday rowand blew it, he just wasn't locating his curveball like he should or else they would've had no chance. Jenks is overthrowing everything. His curve is either in the dirt because he overthrows it, or up high because he's just aiming it. He hasn't been able to throw it naturally it seems for a few games. He'll continue to give up hard hit balls if he keeps the fastball down.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) Look, just remember this. Next year, our closer and our 5th starter will be paid $400,000 a piece. It will stay that way for several years. Right now, we seriously cannot afford to trade away young people. This team has a lot of guys getting paid decently well, and a lot of guys who are going to go up in price. The only way we can afford to keep any of these pieces together, including just hte top 2 in our pitching staff, will be to have some young guys take the places of people. You cannot build a team of all veterans on a $75 million salary and have them be winners. You need youth. The sooner some people will realize this isn't a video game, the better. I couldn't agree with you more.

QUOTE(Rally Crede!! @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) I'm sorry, but Podsednik without any speed is f***ing useless leadoff hitter. You can get rid of the last two words, and just go with useless.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) W Sox 91-60 R Sox 88-64 3.5 GAMES!!! I was wrong It's good to be wrong sometimes, ay?

Another amazing AB by Pods.
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) Matt Lawton is hitting .114 for the NYY with 2 hrs and 4 rbis He hasnt done much of anything He stepped up and won their game for them tonight.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Please don't take this as an attack, but as a genuine question: where would Lawton actually play? Who would he be an upgrade over (aside from Timo, of course) Since we knew Pods was going on the DL, he would have been an excellent choice to leadoff when he was out. And jphat...before the trade, Lawton was having a better year than Pods.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) If we don't win tonight and it looks bleak, this series was a failure. Our last series was a failure considering Cleve swept KC while we were winning 2 of 3. We just keep dropping games. It was a failure, but that's better than a disaster.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Will Wedge pull an Ozzie and leave Elarton in too long? OF COURSE NOT

Assuming we lose and the laws of physics, our playoff magic number is 7.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Nope 3 games!!! 2.5 ahead of CLE and NYY It's 3.5 ahead of Boston

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) This team did more to improve itself by not meeting people's price than it would have by doing so. By not meeting people's prices, we got ourselves a cheap potential #1 starter and a 100 mph closer. Matt Lawton won the game for the Yankees tonight. He was available at the deadline for a minimal cost. Now, I'm not saying we should have gone after him, but there were some players available. However, KW went after the two superstars, KG Jr. and Huff.

HAHA! Hawk sounding upset that our hitters are just missing hitting homers.

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) Thats true, but again, its not Ozzie's fault that the bullpen blows a lead. Sure, you can blame him for putting in Marte who let up 2 runs so the opposing team is only down by 1, but its still up to the players to execute. Strangely, I don't even think this is close to Ozzie's worst managing series of the year. He did a solid job last night, of course besides leaving his starter in for too long (but that's a nightly f*** up). I think the main reason for the 1-2 series was that the Indians are a superior team to the Sox.

Take one for the team Rowand

QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) this was supposed to be the season that i would tell my grandkids about. now it looks like that conversation will start out with, "forget 1969, forget the 2004 ALCS, the biggest chokejob in MLB history was the 2005 chicago whitesox....." Back away from the ledge! This team has had a great run this year, but it was never a once in a lifetime team. You'll see better teams on the south side in the next 5 years.
-
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) Yankees play Balty at home tomorrow, three at home at Toronto, four at Balty and three at Boston Baltimore is f***ing awful now, and they just lost Roberts. It wouldn't shock me if they lose their last 8 games against the Yanks this year.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Ozzie built this team to his liking, and no one expected them to be that good in the first half of the year. I didnt get my hopes up, which is why when they play .500 ball, I dont get upset and blame Ozzie for everything. And yea, I do think Ozzie should get some blame for this letdown, but come on. Its not his fault the players dont execute. FWIW, I was blaming Ozzie well before the .500 stretch. A lot of us saw that he was making a lot of foolish decisions during the games, and we had to seemingly win despite our manager. Yes, I don't blame Ozzie completely for this potential collapse. However, I feel like he has let this team down in the last month or so when they needed him the most. When you're not playing great as a team, you need to put the team in the best chance to succeed.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) Judy got f***ed nibbling on the corners on 2 strikes, and walking people. Much like the other big three pitchers we have had go this week. You have to be able to strikeout top hitting teams. You can make a lot of good pitches to them, but they'll foul them off. I don't blame Garland though...he gave us a chance to win tonight. Bad offense and a very late hook cost him big time.
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) TB 7 BOS 4 Final we will be 3 ahead of BOS for the wildcard! I'm pretty sure it's higher than that.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) Alot of people have got.. not sure of the word, but "too used" to winning games, and when the Sox lose anything, the finger is pointed at Ozzie, even if it isnt his fault. Im not pissed at Ozzie because I realize that the White Sox have 91 wins, something only 1 other team in baseball has, and the reason they have 91 wins? Ozzie Guillen. If you're going to give Ozzie all the praise for 91 wins, then you have to give him all the blame for potentially blowing a 15 game lead on August 1st.

I'm not going to be confident until the magic number says zero. This team has proven one thing to me all year: you never know what's going to happen.
