  1. What a joke. Way to be prepared tonight Garcia.
  2. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) He's had a quality start in 5 of his last 6 starts. He can't be doing but so bad. All I know is that he's been hanging nearly every offspeed pitch he's thrown lately. He was lucky he didn't allow 5 homers last game with all his hangers.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) Something is clearly wrong with this Sox team lately... But Carl Everett is the anchor of this offense!
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) 24th HR allowed by Garcia this year. 22 of them in the first inning
  5. Garcia has got to nut up and just trust his fastball. Something is clearly wrong with his offspeed pitch lately.
  6. Can Garcia not hang every offspeed pitch he throws? What a f'n joke. And BTW, STFU DJ!
  7. Carl WAY out in front of every pitch. Why he's playing tonight is really puzzling.
  8. Hopefully he can get it back quick, but PK looks like he's lost his rhythm at the plate. If he gets that same pitch last week, the Sox are up 2-0.
  9. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) I kind of hope El Duque gets lit up on Saturday, so we don't have to see him starting in the playoffs. That's the big issue right now. Too many games of our starter getting "lit up", and we won't have anyone starting in the playoffs.
  10. Washburn would give up a ton of homers at the Cell. Not only that, but Washburn seems to get arm/shoulder injuries at least once a season. For the amount of money he'll get, I wouldn't even consider it. We need more help than just a possible 5th starter.
  11. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) A six game lead is a lot different than a 2 or 3 game lead in mid Sept. Hernandez is different than Grilli/ diaz/ Wright. He's a proven big game winner. He should be afforded some leeway. [Not a lot as he's struggled big time for a while now]. But some leeway. Like Ozzie has done. Put him on notice, but give him support as well. He was a big game winner a few years ago when he had a lot better stuff and was healthier. That's like saying that Frank Thomas is one of the best hitters in baseball (to use Jason's argument). Yes, a choke job wouldn't be solely based on Duque, but he would have played a huge role in the poor 2nd half.
  12. All it takes is one good start the rest of the way by Duque, and I guarantee you'll see quotes in the paper by Ozzie saying that he's going to start a playoff game.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) I hope you aren't comparing Johan Santana to JP Howell. I'm not, but the way Hawk was gushing over Howell, you would have thought it was unfair to compare Santana to Cy Howell.
  14. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) As did Mike Mussina and Carlos Silva. We didn't face Silva at the Cell.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) This is the second time around with a short break in between. The Sox will get to Howell this time. They always look much better against a pitcher in this situation. Yeah, we kicked Johan's ass the second time we saw him in a short span last month
  16. The lineup I would like to see tonight, against a lefty, would be : Pods, Uribe, Rowand, PK, Dye, Iguchi, Everett, AJP, Crede
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) From what I've read, Carl doesn't seem particularly thrilled about losing his spot in the 3-hole. I saw the same quote, and didn't exactly seem like he appreciated being the "scapegoat" for the offense.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) Carl can not hit a change to save his life lately. He pulls his head off the ball every time. Minor league players are not as fooled by a pitcher like Howell as much as major league players. He doesnt have overpowering stuff, lets hit his ass. Thing is, Everett hit a homer off of Howell the first time we faced him. Thus, Ozzie will keep him in the lineup for sure. Rowand looked awful vs Howell last time, but great at the plate last night.
  19. I'll all but guarantee there's not a single Sox player in that dugout who feels that Duque gives them a better chance of winning than McCarthy does. Yes, you'll play harder for someone you respect. However, you're also likely to play harder for someone who you feel is not afraid to stick his neck out and make a chance in order to try and help the team.
  20. Here's a crazy idea.....play Anderson for Everett tonight!
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 05:36 AM) what do ya think, fathom. should we relax a bit or are we still in trouble? When you're up 6 games at this point of the season, you're not in trouble. Rather, this team just needs to keep focusing on the game on the field, and everything should come together for them. It was great to see an excellent performance by our bullpen tonight. You know me though, I'll never be relaxed unless the magic number is zero. From here on out though, any day that the magic number decreases, it's a great day.
