  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Its not even bashing you, its the truth. To be honest I haven't seen anything that looks like you are rooting for the team. Everything is about what is wrong, not what is right, fun, enjoyable, exciting etc. Even when something good happens it gets qualified by a negative. To be honest, somedays I wonder if you enjoy being right more than you enjoy a Sox win. But I will give you this much, at least you were saying what you were saying consistantly. The people who had the magic numbers in their signatures and the cute sayings before, only to be replaced with how bad we suck, trade demands, and how they know we are going to lose now are the true bottom feeders. Unless you want to count the people coming out of the woodwork after not posting for months to say how bad we suck. I don't know how much you enjoy baseball, but at least you are a stand up guy. Fair enough. Maybe I didn't seem as excited as others on here, and that was probably because in the back of my mind, I didn't think the "magic season" would continue, and didn't want to get overly optimistic. The funny thing is that three weeks ago, I was beginning to think it would take a collapse of epic proportions to not make it. Now, I feel like Arizona in the Elite Eight game against Illinois, and we have no timeouts left to stop the bleeding. Trust me though, I do root for the Sox. I wouldn't waste so much time on here if I didn't.
  2. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Right now K.C. may be the only team in the division who are not a threat to the Sox. The rest of the schedule is loaded with inter divisional match ups. Woe is us. 3 better teams chipping away at Sox, "insurmountable" , lead. Can't complain about the Sox offense.......because there is none. Hey Jerry, you cheap SOB, way to blow another one. He just sucks the life out of Sox fans. I don't think the Griffey Jr. trade is about money. If it's true the potential Reds ownership buyer won't make an offer without Griffey Jr. on the team, then he's not going to get traded.
  3. BTW, I don't think people blame Timo personally. Rather, many of us feel Timo is representative of the complacency that happened with this team about a month ago. Also, Timo is representative of the cluelessness that is Ozzie Guillen's in-game managing.
  4. Dye basically carried this offense for two months. Now, he's slumping majorly again like he did to start the season. Part of the reason it would have been great to acquire another OF/DH was to be able to sit Dye, or any other outfielder, more when they're slumping. What's Ozzie going to do now, bench Dye for Anderson?
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) No you wouldn't. You haven't been happy all year no matter what our record has been. You have been predicting doom and gloom forever. Thanks. I've been predicting doom and gloom because I felt it was just a matter of time before our tough 2nd half schedule caught up to us, and we stopped getting all the breaks. Now, a superior Indians roster is peaking, and making up games at a frightening pace. Keep bashing me all you want, I'll still be rooting for the Sox unlike a lot of cowards on this site. It's hard to get mad about a team collapsing when they haven't done a thing to try and correct the problems the team has.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) I am going to incur some major hate when I say this, but I have no problem with losing that game last night. That was the best baseball game I have seen in years at least. When you throw in the pitching that Santana did, the pitching that Garcia did, especially to pitch over the Ozuna error, the catch by Ford, the catch by Stewart, the catch by Dye, and the play at first base on the Ozuna bunt, that game was a pleasure to watch. I will be thrilled to death if we play like that in the playoffs. We hit a lot of balls hard off of the reigning Cy Young pitcher, the Twins defense was just always in the right place. There is nothing you can do about that. Our pitching and defense were absolutely unbelievable, and one stinking pitch doesn't change that. Honestly I am proud of the way the Sox played last night. In years past this team would have found a way to lose that game. Last night the Twins found a way to win it before we did, and to me there is a big difference there. The Sox have zero reasons to hang their heads after last night I can see where you're coming from. I think the fact the Indians won on an absolute horses*** call made our loss seem even worse. We just need to go back to finding ways to win...and then we can feel confident about playoff baseball.
  7. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) Irish, you're going to be proven wrong on this one. I'm telling you Paulie's right. Remember that 4 game series last September (or the year before) against the Twins in Chicago? The Sox won the first two and during the second game the Twins nearly came back and won. They went on to split the series and then swept the Sox the next week in minny. That 9th inning of that second game, even though the Sox won, was the turning point in the series and the season. They had their foot on the Twins' throat and they let them off the mat. I'm not saying this is the exact same thing, but Paulie's right. You can take positives from a loss, even a tough one. Freddy set the tone tonight and you can bet that Buehrle's going to feed off it and so will the rest of the team. They swung the bats as good as you can against Santana and nearly broke the game open a few times. You don't get many chances against the reigning Cy Young. Swung the bats as good as they could? Wow, our expectations are really low for this offense. Also, I don't see how this is the type of game that could give the Sox momentum. Rather, that's the type of game that just let the Twins continue to feel like they own us.
  8. What's the official date for soxtalk.com meltdown 2005? My prediction is about 4 o'clock on Thursday, August 25th if the Sox get swept by the Twins. Combine a possible 3 game losing streak (6 in a row vs Twins), with a 5 game lead in the division, and facing King Felix on Friday.....and you have the formula for an all-time meltdown.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) "Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit." ----Hawk Harrelson That's like saying a football player has good intangibles.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:18 AM) Gload went 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. His two hits were doubles. Meanwhile Timo gobbles his way into clutch situations. Hell, send down Crede. Look at Carlos Pena since he came back to the MLB team!
  11. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) Timo must have been studying some new and improved fellatio techniques to take Gooch's spot in the clutch. It's really pathetic Ozzie's love for Timo. Iguchi might have struggled tonight...but he f***ing deserves the chance to contribute. First, he has a lot more power than Timo, especially in that situation. Iguchi's also more likely to reach base via walk, and he has more speed on the bases. I've been nervous all year that Ozzie couldn't manage us well in a pressure situation (playoffs), and he's really been managing poor during our stretch of bad games lately. I've never seen a manager leave his starting pitchers in so long.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:09 AM) Anderson has pretty good speed as well. However, you wouldn't know it by watching him sit on the bench chewin on sunflower seeds. He seemed to have good speed walking back to the dugout after swinging through another fastball.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:14 AM) Can we hire William Ligue to charge the dug out and beat some f***ing sense into Ozzie? Right now the Barons roster has a better chance to win than this team. Iguchi's OPS is about .200 pts higher than Timo...yet we ph in the 9th for Iguchi?
  14. The problem is, we have to play Crede at 3b. NO MORE OZUNA AT 3B! I don't care if he got two hits tonight, his defense at the hot corner is terrible. He's going to cost us a crucial game if we continue to play him at 3b. If Crede can't do the job on offense, then that's what we acquired G. Blum for. There's still a solid argument that our lack of a back-up 1b has cost us a handful amount of games this season.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:26 AM) '05 D. Young = '05 C. Everett And right now, Everett is one of our top 3 hitters. We have a severe lack of quality MLB hitters on our team.
  16. This team has absolutely no confidence at the plate. They've lost all their energy on offense. It's time for the lineup to get shaken up. I would like to see this lineup tomorrow (assuming Ozzie has to have Timo leadoff) - Timo - Rowand - Iguchi - PK - Everett - Dye - AJP - Uribe - Buehrle (just as good of a chance as getting a hit as Crede is)
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:02 AM) I am still trying to figure out what parts of this team are the "speed never slumps" part. That our offense was reworked because it needs to be more consistant. We need not to score 14 and struggle to score a few the next few days. NOW WE ARE GREAT, WE SCORE 1 RUN EVER OTHER GAME. Besides for Pods, we have below average speed at nearly every position. Even guys that are supposed to be fast, like Rowand and Iguchi, seemingly don't have the wheels they were supposed to. Ozuna and Pods are the only people that play the right way to take advantage of the speed.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 05:55 AM) there will be a bat or two moved before 9/1. Now, the quality of the bats may be in question, but a player like Todd Walker will be moved, maybe even a Cliff Floyd. Again, one may argue they wouldn't help, but I wouldn't be suprised with Rolen out Jocketty (sp?) in St. Louis pulls a solid trade off... Floyd's not going anywhere. The Mets can compete with anyone in the NL down the stretch. Maybe we can trade Willie Harris for Todd Walker? Actually, Dusty would probably love to get someone like Roosevelt Brown back in the organization.
  19. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 05:49 AM) But Irish, The trade deadline is passed. There are no options. Enjoy the ride; we are gonna right the ship. Says who, everyone that thinks it's every teams given right to go .500, no matter what? Will Iguchi, AJP, Dye, Uribe, Crede, and Rowand all break out of their slumps? What's scary is that PK has been swinging the bat amazingly well lately, and we still can't score.
  20. All I know is Jacques Jones has more balls than any of our hitters. He always comes through with clutch hits for the Twins, especially against the Sox. Anytime that Iguchi wants to get a hit with RISP would be fine with me now.
  21. Does anyone actually believe that our lineup is just all of a sudden come to life tomorrow, and score some runs against Mays? Hell, even if one or two guys pick their game up, we still have a lot of other guys in the lineup struggling.
  22. Well, what's the worst that will happen if we lose the rest of our games this season? Exactly....nothing personally happens to us.
  23. Our pitchers have less room for error than Paris Hilton's birth control.
  24. One thing no one can accuse SSI of is complaining now when things are bad. All season, he's warned that this offense was not good.
  25. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) i know but they have faced good pitching. This was never a good offense anyways. Bad news...we're going to continue facing good pitching the rest of the way. I'm sure we'll see Santana twice more this year, Felix Hernandez on Friday, Kenny Rogers next week, etc.
