If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
I can't wait until next week when the Rangers are playing home run derby against our starters, and Ozzie is trying to play smallball with Timo.

Does anybody still have hope?
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) We just got to hold on for dear life until Pods comes back. Can Pods play the left side of the infield?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) No hope needed. We are 7 games up, not down. Time will run out for the indians no matter how hot they may seem. I actually appreciate the optimism at a time like this. As a Sox fan though, isn't it a little sickening that seemingly every night, we say the same thing, but with a lower number?

Indians/Twins Updates
QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:10 AM) This is BS I can't believe they keep winning like this If you haven't seen the non-balk call.....DONT! It will just piss you off.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) Look at the timeline. The decline in offense corresponds with Podsednik's injury. For anyone who says it started a few games before he went on the DL, wasn't his DL stint retroactive? The offense was fading fast well before Pods went on the DL. Also, don't get your hopes up for a speed player coming back strong after a groin injury.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) Looks like an SOS to Rafael Furcal in the off-season, unless a better solution via a trade can be found for 3rd base. I'm also of the opinion Everett needs to pick it up, even though August has been the 2nd best month this season for him. Furcal's a Cubs player if the Braves don't resign him.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Futility is going in to the bottom of the 9th with a 3 run lead and watching Foulke give up 4 (f***ing Denny Hocking). Futility is an easy inning ending DP and watching Valentin throw the ball into the f***ing dugout. Futility is an 18-3 beatdown. This was just bad luck. Bad luck? J. Jones blasted a hanging curveball. Rowand had numerous meatballs to hit tonight, and he was too busy fouling them off over the dugout. Luck didn't make Stewart and Ford catch those balls. If so, then J. Dye got very lucky also. Our offense flat out blows, and our manager has no f***ing clue how to manage a team during a game. What a f***ing insult to Iguchi to get lifted for a ph.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:54 AM) I have been a whitesox fan since I can remember. I have seen some pathetic losses over my years. The only thing this would motivate me to do, is line up with all my sox bretheren at Soxfest for the Q&A session for Kenny or his successor depending if we collapse. Let me help you plan your speech: "Mr. Stone, can I ask you a question"?

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) No Maggs, no Frank & yet they had a winning record in Sept in 2004. The past 5 yrs: all winning records in Sept. None of those teams could pitch like this one. Defintely IN. And in all but one of those Septembers, the games were pretty much meaningless facing other September call-ups.

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) In If they don't have a meeting with the team now then don't have it at all. This is it, they can't keep losing anymore, if they don't change tomorrow its over. They've had numerous team meetings lately. KW owes this team a spark plug, I don't care what he has to do. I'm not saying he needs to trade the farm....rather, do SOMETHING that picks this team up. This team has absolutely no confidence at the plate.

QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) Whats so special about Sunday? I think he's talking about Pods, who seemingly has become the greatest player ever since his injury.

Are you IN or OUT?
I'm in, because we still have a 7 game lead. Seriously, can you imagine what it will be like if/when this lead is down to 1?

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
I think it's funny how Hawk tried to say this wasn't like other games we tanked vs the Twins. I think this was the prototype game that sums up the futility we've had vs the Twins in previous seasons. Great defense by the Twins, terrible execution by the Sox, and that timely homer by the Twins.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) You really think picking up one of those guys would make this offense hit? You think we would have won this game if we had Eduardo Perez? It would be an excellent start. Perez has a .945 OPS against lefties, and would be very cheap to acquire. He'd also give you a back-up at 1b for PK. Ozuna should never, ever play 3rd base again. I appreciate Ozuna's hustle, but I've never seen a 3rd baseman look worse on defense.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) LOL, I still hate you Fathom, but now I sort of understand. Trust me, I never wanted it to go this way. I would have liked nothing else for the lead to stay in double digits all year, and for people to continue to bash me for being a pessimist. The one thing that pissed me off more than anything was when people would use stupid stats like "if the Sox go 21-20, etc". Who in their right mind thinks it's a guarantee that a team goes .500? This Sox team isn't talented enough to take their foot off of the accelerator...and I honestly feel like that's what we did.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) Remember Hawk always mentioning Ozzie doing something to keep these guys up down the stretch? I wonder what he was talking about. Well, if Hawk used the word stretch, he was probably wrong.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) . This is worse than Corpseball. This is moronball. This is corpseball without talented players in the heart of the lineup. At least Carlos Lee, Maggs, and Thomas would hit a homer once in a while.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) Name one guy the Sox could realistically have traded for and didn't that would make this team not suck on offense. Matt Lawton, Eduardo Perez, Raul Ibanez

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) The problem is even if the Sox make the playoffs, you have to face other playoff team's top pitchers. The White Sox offense has very little chance against good pitching. They have stopped running. They have stopped advancing runners. They don't situational hit, and if you don't have a couple .300 hitters, you aren't going to score much with that approach. It was fairly obvious in the second inning tonight that Garcia would have to pitch a shutout to win. I posted it then, and I'm no genius. Making the playoffs and getting swept is better than any scenario which doesn't have the team making the playoffs.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) I am seriously worried about getting to the post-season right now, with the Indians schedule and our s***ty play, 7 more games in 5 weeks not impossible I said it in chat the other day, and I'll say it in here: The Sox won't make the playoffs. Now, before anyone says "well, if you know what's going to happen, why do you watch?" Well, just cause I say that's what I think will happen, it doesn't mean that's what I'm cheering for. I don't think our current offense has the ability to finish strong this season. The Indians and Twins have a ton of momentum. And if anyone thinks we can beat the Indians 1-0 like we were earlier in the year, that's not happening with their hitters swinging the way they are now.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) I'm absolutly ashamed to the point that I actually wished I wasn't a White Sox fan tonight. I'm sick. I'm finished. If this team doesn't make the playoffs, it's over...I will never cheer this team again. If this team doesn't win this division, they just lost a fan. And yes, I realize you kool aid drinking Sox smarks will disagree with me, but I no longer care...I can't take it anymore. This is the worst display in the history of sports. A 1 hitter loss. f*** these overpaid b****es. The only way I take any of this back is if we actually win this division...which I no longer see happening. Hey buddy, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I don't care if Sox lose the rest of their games this season....I'll still always root for them.

If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) We are now what...7.5 games up? How long did it take us to lose those 7 games to bring us from 14.5 to this? How many weeks are left in the season? Hmmm, why was I hating to see our fans getting all "puffy chested"? So, we can't root for the A's to lose or be worried about another team catching us for best record? I'm still happy we rested Pods so he can be healthy for the postseason.

Sox @ Minneapolis--Game 1--8/23/05
QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) If I were a CLE fan, I honestly think I would like the greenness of my grass right now. Indians control their own destiny just as much as we do now. I've never seen an offense as confident they can come back in a game as much as the Indians now. Also, the Indians are now getting all the lucky breaks that we did earlier in the year.
