Gamethread sunday vs sawx 8/14/05

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) We'll only find out if we give him a shot. I'm sure you agree that it'd be better to give Owens a shot if Scotty is out for a while instead of leading Pablo and Timo off every game. Knowing my beliefs like you do, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion? -

QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) Yeah. We dont need to bring up this owens guy unless pods has to sit for more than 3 or 4 days. It's pretty obvious we're putting Pods on the DL. -
QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Wouldn't have it any other way. I'm all for any poster that contributes solid ideas/information to this board.

QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Durham is a DH/LF at this point, not a 2B. That's one. The current incarnation of Griffey will get owned by quality pitching, I guarantee you that. We have enough of those in the line-up as it is. Ray will get on base and he can still score on a double, regardless of the situation or who's on the mound. That's two. SF can't rid of Durham fast enough and he will come cheap for what he brings to the table, still. Griffey's price, in money and in talent Cincy ownership will be satisfied with, is prohibitive. That's 3-through-40 Mill. Stop yourself now! Durham hasn't played one game in the outfield this season, and has one AB as an outfielder in his career. The thought of putting Durham in LF is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Paging Jerry Owens. Can he really get the job done at the MLB level? The Willie Harris comparison scares me a little. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Unfortunately we killed him that inning and got nothing. With Everett and PK swinging the bat great, we need to find someone who can get on base at the top of the order. I don't care if they're the slowest runner in history, we need base runners. There's no excuse to have terrible OBP guys like Timo and Uribe at the top of the order. -

Can I root for a postponed game? -

Clement doesn't look very sharp. It's too bad we couldn't jump out to the lead though. -

I refuse to believe that Everett had a double, and no one was on base. -

Good play, not sure if he had to dive though. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) That would be great if those were batting averages. That's amazing. But yes Hawk, where would Griffey Jr. play? -
We better keep Konerko, his numbers are just as...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) I dont know much about Tracy. I know a lot of people here like him more than Overbay and with Connor Jackson coming up for them, I doubt they will be needing him much. I understand he plays 3B as well. He plays 3b....but not very well. -
QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) Given that "Scottie" is only average defensively, I think we'll manage. With every post, I continue to disagree w/you more. Do you really want to put Everett into the outfield? Not only is he below average in the field, it's also a big injury risk. Everett can't run at all right now.

QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) Still healthier than Junior. And assuming Giants still plan on picking a few mill of his '06 salary, much less of a (financial) risk going forward. Did I mention you won't have to give up MaCarthy or Young for him, either? I think I dided. With Podsednik's OBP/confidence in the dumpster, Ray-Ray is an ideal choice either as a lead-off guy, or if Pods comes back better than ever, as a #2, with Gooch letting loose in the 3-hole. What are we going to do about LF with Pods injured?

I didn't know we won the first two games, and we're playing our sweep lineup? Looks like it might indeed be the sweep lineup. -

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) Well, we are guarenteed a loss today. Since, El-Duque will give up two runs early and the offense today is going to suck. Look at the s*** line-up: Timo Uribe Everett Konerko Rowand Dye Blum Widger Crede That's f***ing ridiculous. Crede shouldn't be playing against Clement, plain and simple. Also, if you want to play Widger one game, and AJP another game, have Widger face the guy who sucks vs righties, and have AJP play against the guy who dominates righties. -
QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Screw Griffey. Just another bopper who will get owned in the playoffs, Eric Chavez-style. His contract and injury history as well as what it'll take to get him don't quite blow my mind, either. We need OBP. Lots of it. Whether Rickey Henderson, Ray Durham, Mother Goose, I don't care. Yeah, since Ray Durham has been so healthy? Also, Mother Goose just hasn't been the same since the steroid testing.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) So it looks like we won't get him. At this point, I hope KW is exploring other options than just Griffey Jr. It definitely doesn't seem like Reds ownership is going to change their mind anytime soon.
-
QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) I noticed this tidbit in the article: Didn't the Mariners ask for Grady Sizemore in exchange for Guardado? I also think the DRays wanted David Wright for Baez.
-
QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) I would say we need someone but everytime we lose two or three in a row everyone says we need someone... We are just playing flat.. When we win a few in a row everyone is satisfied in the team.... I don't think any of us were satisifed with the offense, even after winning two in NY.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) how about anderson in left, ozuna at third leading off? anderson is an upgrade over crede on O, and will be better than anyone else we throw out there on D. give crede some rest, and maybe shift ozuna to SS or 2b here and there to give the others a day off. Ozuna can't play 3b, end of story. There's no need to stress the leadoff position so much. If the guy is a below average hitter like Timo, then we're just putting our 2-3-4 hitters at a disadvantage. Lets just go with our 9 best possible hitters to fill the lineup, and see how that goes.
-
I find it highly unlikely Young gets called up this season. There's two other outfielders guaranteed in Borchard and Anderson that would get called up over him, and possibly a third in J. Owens.
-
Good thing the Sox don't have David Wright on their team. KW could have mixed his name up with Danny Wright, and just let a team pick him up without any compensation.

QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) It's not the same, though. The headcase is guaranteed to fail, while the asshole not only might succeed, but may overachieve. I hate the guy, but Carlos Zambrano begs to differ.
