QUOTE(mooja @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) so our pitching will still be in tact next year? that's good. i figure we gotta give KW the time to get some real bats in the lineup next year. that's only way we're gonna go anywhere in the playoffs... not that i'm giving up on this season or anything, just looking down the road We're not going to have a lot of money to afford anything this offseason, and unless we raise payroll by 10 pct, we're not going to be able to afford PK. Look for a lot of talk of the Sox trading Contreras. Anyways, this is THE YEAR for this team to win the AL Central. The Indians are just going to get better with their spectacular young offensive players.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) el duque got first and i didnt see the other one Iguchi's fault overally on the missed throw to 2nd, but it was more of a lack of communication between him and Uribe.

What this team needs
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) You didn't say it here, so this isn't directed at you fathom. However, for the people that already KNOW this team's done for the year or they're going to get swept in the 1st round, what are you still watching for? For me, I still root for the White Sox. I watch them if they're 30 games up or 30 games below .500. I think a lot of people, like myself, are just livid with the attitude that this organization has had the last few weeks.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) What a f***ing joke of an effort this team has lost it's heart they are just out there going through the f***ing motions. f*** This isn't just one player who has tanked, it's a full organizational collapse. Hopefully, the bleeding stops soon. The only player who honestly should look in the mirror, and feel like there's nothing more they can do is Neal Cotts.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Agree on all counts Keith. There is no sugar coating this, they are in their worst stretch of the year by far and they need a jolt to come out of it. They should really consider a personnel move, even if it's just shuffling the deck. JimH.....if you know that it sucks, why get mad at others who state in more detail what you're probably feeling?

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) I wasn't paying attention, then I just caught the end of the whole thing. What did he do? Threw his elbow out at Chacon when Chacon went to tag him. Definitely the type of play that will get someone hit because of it.

What this team needs
We're all praying for another offensive addition, but one player won't make that big of a difference on this team. Rather, we need everyone to step up their games, and it starts at the top: - Ozzie's having a terrible managing stretch. Besides for continuing to leave our pitchers out for far too long, his inability to tinker with the lineup to try and find a spark is puzzling. Also, why are you trying to play for one run against this Yankees team? You're not going to beat them by getting one run in the bottom of the 1st. - Joe Crede: He needs to either get his act together, or he needs to take a seat on the bench. His ABs lately have been some of the most heartless I've seen by a Sox player in a long time. - Carl Everett: Stop trying to hit a homer on every pitch, and pick up the slack in the 3rd hole. - Timo Perez: Go away - Juan Uribe: Sure, he's putting together solid ABs, but he's still not getting a lot of hits. Quit pulling off of every pitch, and if the pitcher hangs one, make him pay. - Jermaine Dye: Hit the ball the opposite way. I'm so sick of seeing him and Rowand weakly ground out to the left side of the infield. Basically, we're going to live or die with the offensive talent we alread have here. If the players are sitting around waiting for someone to carry this team, it's not going to happen.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) This year has gone from being so great to just sucking. We can't beat playoff-caliber teams. I, and I believe many others, know that we're going nowhere special. One and done, just like in 2000. It'll suck. At this point, making the playoffs is all I'm asking for. And I still can't believe that someone thought Crede's not the easiest out in baseball when he's slumping. The guy absolutely blows.

Good thing AJP isn't playing tomorrow, or else he likely would have got a pitch in his ear.

Real classy by AJP there. Mercy, this team has totally lost their focus.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) it just seems fathom that this central lead can be 2 games in a heartbeat. that makes me sick. never thought it would come to this. I know, I guess I was in the 1 pct minority that thought this division wasn't clinched. The thing is, it's not like we're playing well enough to even win games (besides the Twins 16 inning debacle). Our offense has a long way to go before we're even mediocre on offense. It's very possible that we lose something like 18 out of 20.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) Wow, we f***ing suck. I will officially declare this season over if KW can't manage to bring in a legitimate offensive threat before the waiver deadline passes. Sure, we'll probably still make the playoffs (I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't, though), but we'll be shown the door very quickly. We've gone to s*** faster than the Orioles did. Good to see you back around here Milkman. I must say, what you told me last week couldn't have been more accurate. The problem is that right now, I'm not so sure how much one offensive addition would help. We have so many guys who are struggling. It's not like we're hitting into a lot of bad luck. We don't hit the ball hard, and don't know how to reach base via walk....translation= our offense sucks!

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) That final series in Cleveland is looming larger and larger. Why? The division will almost definitely be decided by that series. There are a lot more important games before that, starting with tomorrow.

When it Rains it Pours.
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) We are gone geese. I hope in the offseason they fix these problems. Find a new hitting coach and I hope by season's end the Joe Crede experiment is over. Keep Pods, Rowand, Iguchi, and Pierznski. I still have to see how Konerko is the rest of the way to decide on him. Dye is boarderline but I guess acceptable. So I think they must upgrade at 3rd, SS, and find a new DH. Everett is OK but we need something more that can be a powerful force at DH like a Griffey caliber player. Dont know who would be available but something like this. If this team chokes, and doesn't make the playoffs, this offseason would be more about who we get rid of than who we add. We don't have a lot of money to spend.

podsenik
QUOTE(soxhawks @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) this losing streak shows just how much podsenik means to this team, i have completely underestimated his importance to thius team. i thought he was being overhyped by the winning record this year, but he is the real deal Well, if this team lives and dies with Pods, then we have another 10 games or so until he returns. I guess I should sell my Sox playoff tix then.

Haha, good....we deserve to give up that run. Nice effort by Duque today. If he was still on the Yanks, he would have won with this effort.

GRRRRINDERBALL v. Yankees 8/20/05 Game Thread!
Duque, a guy with shoulder injuries all year, started this inning after already throwing 103 pitches. Honestly, what's there to gain by pitching him this inning? All week, Ozzie has left our starting pitchers in for one inning too long it seems.

Why the f*** is Duque still out there? Ozzie needs to save his arm. This is just ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-

How many times can these guys try to pull the ball in clutch situations before Ozzie sits their ass on the bench?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Congrats to Duque on earning the bonus. He deserves it. Maybe the rest of the guys on the team should pay Duque some too. Exactly, if some of the players on the team showed the heart that Duque has today, maybe we would score more than a run.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) Duque kicked the bag f***in' blue. Yeah, that was a bad call. Funny that Duque has two errors after the announcers were saying how great he was earlier in the game. Not that either error was Duque's fault...more just a telling sign of the collapse at hand.
