QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) if Hermanson goes down, we are in deep trouble late in games. I guess we'd use Cliff as the closer, but that makes it essential for Cotts/Marte/Jenks to be able to handle the 7th and the 8th. I surely don't trust Jizz or Adkins. If Hermy went to the DL, who would be called up? Doesn't seem like Baj is going to get a shot, although he is the logical choice. Viz's role would definitely be upgraded.

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) Neither does having a $16 million a year player. Yeah, since the Reds have so many other starts that can attract fans? I can see it now " Come one, come all....come see Eric Milton make a run at the most homers allowed in a season!"

What really annoys me is that we have, according to most scouting experts, one of the most MLB ready minor league outfielders in Brian Anderson. The leadoff spot in the order is incredibly overrated, especially in the AL. Just cause we can put someone with speed at the position, it doesn't mean s***. A guy with no speed who can get on base at a high clip is more valuable than someone with good speed who can't even obtain a .300 OBP.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:58 AM) He has played the outfield a total of 105 times with a FPCT of .992. He's never played in LF!
-
QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) So what is hanging up this deal? I think it is money. I bet if the Sox took on all of the non-deferred portion of Griffey's deal, that the Reds would say okay. They might even accept something other than Chris Young if we'd pay all of Griffey's $12.5 million/year through 2008. The Reds ownership is looking to sell the team. Losing their marquee player doesn't exactly raise the team's value. That's why they didn't make the trade a few weeks ago, and that's why I don't buy any of the new news.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) Does this confirm a DL trip for Pods? I think everyone assumes it's going to happen.
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) Griffey in CF is better than Pods or Carl in LF, but with no experience in LF, we really don't know how Jr. would adjust to LF and i dont know if that is something Ozzie/KW will want to do while we are charging for the pennant. Carl/Pods in LF, Aaron in CF, and Dye in RF w/ Jr. at DH is the best lineup... Everett at less than 100 pct in the outfield is a recipe for disaster or an injury. If he does play more than a few games in the outfield while he's still not 100 pct., then we might not have to worry about who would play in the playoffs.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) God dammit, this type of news pisses me off. We have 2 good minor leaguers raking the damn ball down there, who can field well, but don't call them up. Give one of them a chance for gods sake. Pedro Lopez wasn't supposed to be here but he did for a short time and made the best of it, let Anderson or Owens get a chance geez. I was watching the Braves game today during our rain delay, and it was awesome to see the energy they were playing with thanks in large part to their young guys. We have a 12.5 game lead....we can afford to give a legit prospect like Anderson a shot.

Wow, where are the same people that were so happy to see Harris get shipped out of town a few weeks ago? I definitely dislike the idea of putting a player in the field at a position they've never played before. You're just asking for an injury to him or another player. How would you feel if he collided with Rowand cause he had no clue what he was doing?
-
QUOTE(agame @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) If we somehow got Griffey, what would be our best (playoff) lineup? Someone would have to sit during the playoffs which would be unfortunate. I figure you can't bench Pods because of speed, A-Row because of defense, Griffey's bat couldn't start on the bench. That leave's either Everett or Dye of which I think Everett would win by a bit IMO. What do you guys think? Everett would be on the bench in that case. If you're facing a tough righty like Clement, then Dye would sit. Also, who's to say Pods gets close to 100 pct again this season?

This is like Cubs fans comparing D. Lee to A. Pujols. Who gives a s***, any team would want either of these players above almost anyone else.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) Santana is a hell of a pitcher however he isn't the same pitcher that he was last year. Tough to maintain for a whole season the dominance he had last season. His peripherals are still dominant, and his ERA should be better than it has been.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:41 AM) Buehrle is the best lefty in baseball and probably the best SP in the AL right now. Exactly, right now. Santana's ERA is on the way down, while Buehrle's ERA is on the way up. Santana's numbers weren't that far off last year from where they are this year. He's been an amazing 2nd half pitcher the last few years. This isn't a shot at Buehrle, but Santana is a beast.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) I like the idea. Anyway, Timo is better off as a pinch hitter or late game defensive replacement. Like he always was. Willie is better at defense than Podsednik anyways and we'll get back the speed at the top. This seems like a pretty good temporary solution, atleast until Pods is ready. Have you seen Willie play in the outfield? He's going to need two cut-off men on a flyball hit to the warning track.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) Pitcher A has a 2.96 ERA, Has allowed 10 HR's, 1 Wild Pitches Pitcher B has a 3.48 ERA, Has Allowed 16 HR's, 7 Wild Pitches You might be the first person to ever use wild pitches as a statistic to compare pitchers.

I'd love to know the name of guys that have cleared waivers. I guarantee there are better options than Harris/Timo/Ozuna/Owens. Why not call up the best player we can, B. Anderson, and not worry about the leadoff position. With the poor hitting we've received from our 8-9 lately, that leadoff hitter doesn't really get a chance to drive in runs anyways.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:33 AM) I'd take Mark B over Santana every day of the week times two. Why? If I had one game to win, and had to choose between either of them, I'd take Santana in a heartbeat.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) I'd love to see this happen. He's a better everyday option than Timo or Pablo when were talking about a leadoff hitter. What's to say he can play LF? He never impressed me in CF. As much as I hate to say it, I'd rather have Timo in LF.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) They ran an interview between Griffey and Bruce earlier today on ESPN 1000. That was probably the interview from earlier in the week when the Reds were at Wrigley. I'm not sure where this rumor came from, but there's nothing that makes me think Levine has a clue what's going on with the White Sox.
-
Chicagosports.com is reporting that Willie Harris might be called up to play LF and leadoff. Good grief, that would be a disaster of a move. Harris is a terrible outfielder, and he's done nothing this season to deserve to be on the MLB roster. Please do something else KW!
-
BTW, the best answer anyone could give to any debate with Griffey Jr. is this: Who gives a f***, just get him on the White Sox!
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) If Griffey thinks he's coming here to play CF most of the time, he's dense. He sees Frank is down and Aaron is a Gold Glove candidate. I have a hard time believing Jr. would be shocked and offended if he was the full-time DH if he accepted a trade here. There's not a manager in baseball who would play Everett in the field over Griffey Jr. Griffey Jr. on his worst night is better in the field than Everett is on his best night.
-
Trust me, I'm not saying Griffey should be in CF over Rowand. However, how many times do you see a situation where a superstar is brought in, and he changes from the position where he was a star at for his entire career? It would be like acquiring Omar Vizquel, and we expected him to play 2b or 3b.
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) For those 2 weeks while Scotty is on the DL? FOR SURE. Defensively Griffey is far superior. However, that upgrade in LF does not justify the injury risk that there would be for those 2 weeks. Griffey would be brought here SOLELY because of his bat. To put that in jepardy would be a mistake. Everett isn't 100 pct in regards to running.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) Do you want to keep Griffey healthy? Almost every injury he has had is because of his defensive aggresiveness. Griffey Jr. is healthy right now, Everett isn't. I also think that Griffey Jr.'s pride might be serverly hurt if he becomes a DH.
