Ozuna might be showing what happens when a career bench player starts to play 5 times a week or more. Has there been any update on Uribe lately?

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) hermanson hasn't pitched since MONDAY. he could use an inning today, and still have plenty left for tomorrow if needed. the lack of work is going to hurt when real save chances come up. Ozzie has been quoted recently as saying Hermanson would only be used in save situations for the time being. He wants to keep Hermanson fresh for the second half of the season.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) i would have gone politte in the 7th, and hermanson in the 8th assuming we were still trailing. hermanson gets no work unless it's save opp. he could have used it today. I'd rather keep Hermanson fresh for tomorrow's game for a save opportunity. I see no problem with using Shingo in a game like this and try to see if he can continue his solid stretch.

13 baserunners against Contreras in 6.1 innings today. Add to that 3 wild pitches as well.
-
Contreras is over 100 pitches now. I just don't understand this decision by Ozzie to keep Contreras in. Absolutely idiotic if you ask me.
-
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) No, he doesn't have much. My point remains though, Sox are down by 4 and they have a pitcher who hasn't given up a run in the last 5 innings. I see no reason why we should waste our bullpen. Our bullpen is as well rested now as it has been this entire season. Maybe it's just my philosophy, but when I see a pitcher struggling to keep runners off the bases, I try to be proactive, rather than reactive, and take him out before the game gets out of hand.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) besides, we're not scoring 5 runs today anway. Well, might as well let Widger pitch the last 3 innings of this game.
-
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) He has only given up 1 run in the last 5 innings. I'm pretty confident I wasn't the only one on here who thought Contreras didn't have much on the mound today.
-
Well, good job by Contreras at least by holding the Cubs to 5 runs on a day when he had nothing on the mound. We weren't going to win this game anyways if we only scored 2 runs.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) You obviously don't realize how slow Maddux is to the plate. Thanks. You obviously weren't listening when Hawk said how the Cubs were making a legit effort at holding Pods at 2nd base today. If Barrett was the catcher, I would like the chances of a successful SB a lot more by Pods.
-
QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) it's his last inning. better to use contreras for the sixth at this point than start using the bullpen. I completely disagree. You pull Contreras before this game gets out of hand. We can still win this game if we're 3 down at this point. However, if the Cubs get a few more runs cause Ozzie left Contreras and his WHIP of about 25 today on the mound too long, then that's bad managing.
-
PULL CONTRERAS! I know Ozzie loves to leave his pitchers in for at least 6 innings no matter what, but it's painfully obvious that Contreras has nothing today.
-
QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) well, the sox can't win every game. otherwise, what would we complain about?
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) Pods could of swiped 3rd off Maddux twice now and didn't. Hate to be hard on the guy, but we could easily have two more runs. With Blanco catching, I don't think Pods would have greater than a 50/50 chance of stealing 3rd against Maddux.
-
Man, Maddux is making so many awful pitches today, we're just not scoring runs off of them.
-
OK, I've tried to be patient, but enough of Moose. I don't give a s*** how many homers he had in the World Series, etc. Hawk has to love it though so he doesn't have to announce when the Sox are losing.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Get Contreras the hell out of there. But Jim, how can he get the win then?
-
Dye's been our best player over the last month, and his defense has gotten a little better also. We need to play him every game as long as he's on fire, which means no TIMO!
-
Was that the first person that Dye has thrown out at home all year? Can we please take Contreras out of the game? He basically has handed about 3 runs to the Cubs this game.
-
QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) I am mildy concerned as well. It would be nice for Kenny to make a move and pick up a guy like Lilly or someone with the skills to be a 4 or 5 SP type guy to fill in for Contreras or El Duque if they really struggle or go down to injury. I don't have a clue why we'd be interested in Lilly. With the weather getting warmer, he'd likely lead the majors in homers allowed if he pitched at the Cell all year. Also, he's someone that doesn't go a lot of innings.
-
QUOTE(SAVVY18 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) These guys HAVE to be patient, like they usually are. Relax and get him out of the game first and foremost. We're usually patient? Have I been watching a different team all year?
-
QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) IF we do somehow happen to lose this one, the worst we can do is tie the overall series 3-3 this year. And with the one stat that DOES matter, our games up on the Twins, it will be at 9.5 at worst. Things arent that bad. Still lots of game left, the Cubs pen, and the chance for a series win tomorrow if not today!!! GO SOX I absolutely agree. The whole overview of where the Sox are right now is a scenario that I would have never dreamed possible before the start of the season. Thus, the reason for more optimism on my behalf about the rest of the season, and not just a focus on each individual game, etc. Teams lose games during the season, it happens. I'm beginning to get concerned about Contreras though.
-
Don't like to say I told you so, but there was the limited pitch inning you could sense was coming. I have a feeling Contreras will start this inning.
-
2 strikes.....SWING THE f***ING BAT!
-
Here comes that 8 pitch inning by Maddux. My fear that the Hollandsworth catch changed the whole momentum of this game looks like it could be coming true. Luckily, there's a long way to go.
