And with that mental lapse by Contreras, that's a perfect example of why KW is trying to get rid of him.

That's the Contreras we all know and hate. The man just can't overcome defensive lapses. However, that Crede grounder should definitely be changed to an error.

That's comical that wasn't called an error on Crede. Hopefully, Contreras can pitch over the rare miscue by the left side of the infield.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) second night in a row frank's left a guy on third with one out. He's not a #3 hitter anymore. Nope. But no way a change will be made unless you see a total collapse. Frank never has been a big situational hitter, and it's even more magnified now.

Indians trade Gerut...
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:25 AM) Im scared this might awaken the cubs chances I think the pathetic pitching of the Pirates and Reds has pretty much done that. With the Cubs starting pitching, they should have an advantage every game they play against those teams.

Indians trade Gerut...
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:25 AM) Jody Gerut? Meh. He's ok. Dubois has some major power potential and is much better suited in the AL. Not so sure Hendry fleaced the Indians here. If the Sox traded one of their best young power hitters for a 4th outfield in a pretty suspect outfield, we wouldn't exactly be thrilled.

Indians trade Gerut...
Jody Gerut couldn't even start over the struggling Casey Blake. I can't believe the overreaction by some people about this trade. You do realize that before the year, Dubois was being touted as one of the premiere young power hitters in baseball.
-
Indians trade Gerut...
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the Cubs "raped" the Indians in this deal. Dubois is a big time power prospect, and even though he's better suited for a DH position, the Cubs could have packaged him to get a much bigger upgrade in the outfield over Jody Gerut. There's not a team in the AL that wouldn't take their chances on Dubois as DH.

GAME THREAD 7-18-2005 vs. Detroit
Just got back in time for the 9th inning. Finish them Cliffy. BTW, for those who keep asking, Hermanson has a bad back.

Angels up 2-1 going into bottom of the 9th.

Talk about absolute domination! Great way to start the 2nd half.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) BTW I hope that people who ripped the NL for starting Carpenter take a good look at todays game. Carpenter outdueled Clemens with a virtuoso performance and Dontrelle's slide continues. Carpenter is easily the most underrated pitcher in MLB.

To the bottom of the 9th we go. I assume we'll leave Cliff in, and bring in Dustin if he's able to go, and Politte gets into trouble.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) What's the situation? 8th inning over? Yes, 2 outs in top of the 9th already.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) If Politte is on his game the guy can take anyone out. Lefty or righty doesn't mater. He has been great this year. Is Cliff walking batters because he is flat missing or getting piched by the ump? He was just a bit off, and didn't seem comfortable on the mound. Blake worked him tough for the first walk/hbp.

We can never complain again about hitting too many pop-ups in a game.

GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS
Probably the biggest batter of the game here. This is the Indians best chance to give themself a chance to win this game, by keeping this inning going. Marte should be getting warmed up to face Gerut.

Politte's learning how much this umpire sucks here. Talk about not calling the low strike at all.

2-1 Angels over the Twins, heading into the top of the 8th.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) The radar gun is off by two miles at least... garland can hit 94 and he was at 90-91 all day... and that was his fast fastball today. Thanks, I was wondering if maybe the gun was just calibrated too slow.

Well, good job by Cotts throwing strikes. Indians sure are hitting a lot of lazy pop-ups.
-
GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS
Is it me, or has Cotts velocity decreased? I've seen one pitch at 88mph, but most of the other pitches seem a little lower? However, I'd rather see him throw strikes at 86 mph than throw balls at 90 mph.

Good catch by AJP. Sandy Alomar Jr. would have gone crashing into the fence on a play like that.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Did you mean to say 3rd? Nope. Right now, Ozuna is just producing so much more at the plate than Uribe. I know Uribe is swinging the bat better, but he's still just not producing at the plate.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) With a 4 run lead, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of both Viz and/or Jenks. Why is Hermanson unavailable? What'd I miss? He didn't pitch yesterday. Family stuff? Someone said that Ozzie mentioned on the pregame show that Hermanson's back is bothering him again. I don't think we'll see Jenks or Viz in any 4 run games anytime soon.
