Game Thread 5-9-2005 Sox .vs. Rays

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) 9 in a row by Lance carter. When we lose to garbage like this, is why no one takes the Sox seriously. We should be killing a team like this. We have for years have had a problem beating crap teams. Detroit loses a record amount of times and we attribute to like 30 percent of their win total. Remember guys this doesnt get easier when we play the Orioles over the weekend. We need to beat crap. Teams lose games in baseball all the time against inferior opponents. It is a little disheartening that the Twins have just come into Tampa and beat the s*** out of this same team. That's something that has really hurt our chances in the past. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) 88 for Nomo is plenty, his velocity has been so down these last 2 years that it was just getting killed. His splitty was down in the strike zone all night and had a lot of movement on it. Nomo only reached 88 a few times. His fastball was more around 85 mph. We allowed him to get into a groove by swinging at way too many first pitches, and not putting Tampa in a big hole in the 3rd inning. Right then, you could see the momentum was going to be with the home team. -

Interesting. Two outs so far on guys seemingly just sticking their bat out weakly. At least Konerko's was with 2 strikes. -

Everett just used the same approach he should have had in the 3rd inning. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) We've hit plenty of balls hard tonight and just not finding holes, it seemed that way yesterday also, not making any excuses but it's not like the offense hasn't been taking good swings tonight. Fair enough. Agree to disagree then. I've been thinking this was the worst the offense has looked in a while. Just doesn't seem like a lot of hard hit balls, and most of the hits have been flares. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Dude, I know you love being pessimistic but yeesh, the 8th inning is our inning, that's when our offense always gets some big hits. By the way it's not like our guys have been swinging the bat poorly, lots of bad luck in this game so far. I have a question, and no, I'm not trying to act like a troll: What's this bad luck we're hitting into? Podsednik and Uribe both have lined out, but both those weren't in crucial situations. When we had guys in scoring position, if our hitters made contact, it was very weakly. I'm just asking cause I heard DJ say the same. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) Our pitchers tonight "collectively" having pitched a smart game. 0-2 and we toss something close enough to get wood on it. You get ahead and then instead of using a waste pitch, give them something to put into play. Yep. Even Nomo was smart enough to throw his splitter in the dirt when he had 2 strikes on guys. -

I really thought Crawford had swung at the 0-2 pitch. Did they ever show a replay? -

I actually thought Garcia had pretty good stuff tonight. He still isn't throwing his splitter/changeup like he used to. Garcia did face a pretty awful lineup tonight, and he allowed 3, 2 out hits to the bottom of the order. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) To me it sounded like you used hindsight to say that if Hermanson was pitching instead of Marte, Zaun wouldn't have gotten injured. I didn't know you could predict the future. It was a completely moronic statement and still is. But then again, you ARE the master of hindsight with all of your comments so I guess I should have expected as much. Considering that almost everyone of us was saying we wanted Hermanson to stay in, it was simply a comment about what we would have liked to not see happen at the end of the game. If anyone actually thinks I was blaming Marte for Zaun being hurt, then I don't know what to say. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) That first hit that Singleton had was just bad. Garcia gets the guy 0-2 and then throws a slow curve inside to a lefty. You have a waste pitch, either bust him in high and tight or toss it high and away. Be careful, someone might tell you to shut up. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=674082 :rolly Are you an idiot? Anyone with any intelligence would figure out what I meant by that. What's the chances that the same situation would have happened if Hermanson stayed in? Probably like 1 in one billion. McDonald would have never faced Hermanson, so there who knows if there would have been a similar grounder...it's not likely. I didn't think I had to explain this. -

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) offense looking flat again. Someone needs to step it up We seem to be sitting back waiting for the 2 or 3 run homer again. That 3rd inning really left Tampa in this game, as well as their 3, 2 out RBI. -

I apologize to anyone on here that considered what I said trollish about how the Sox deserved to lose tonight. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way tonight though. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) You did. You used hindsight to say that if Marte wasn't pitching, Zaun wouldn't have been injured. Everyone laughed at that comment. I swear you only read what you want to in order to make your own statement about something. What I said about keeping Hermanson in had absolutely nothing to do with that situation in terms of Marte being responsible. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) f***in' steals are killing us! Maybe I missed something, but they haven't score a run because of a stolen base today. Huff didn't steal 2nd base like Jabroni stated before. He easily scored once the ball got to the wall. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) Shut up. What the hell is your problem? When DJ, who rarely makes an analysis, says the same thing....maybe it was actually a dumb pitch? Also, since when is saying the Sox deserve to lose trollish? That doesn't mean I'm not cheering for them to win. It's just a simple statement that we've made some dumb mistakes, and haven't had any clutch hits while Tampa has 3, 2 out RBI. -

I've had enough of Dye. His attitude is absolutely awful right now. With a righty batting after Singleton, I wouldn't have minded seeing Garcia go around Singleton to face Toby Hall. -

Another stupid 2 strike slider to a guy who hadn't proven he could touch a Garcia fastball. Sox deserve to lose this game with their stupid decision making and execution. -

Garcia has got to be careful with Huff here. Also, has anyone noticed Dye's lack of hustle in the outfield tonight? He almost allowed Hollins to score on Singleton's hit because he seemed to take forever getting to the ball. Also, that Crawford hit went a little longer than I think Dye thought it would. -

Crede has to be swinging on that pitch. He was in protect mode, and swung at pitches that were much worse than that. Another chance blown there. Garcia has his work cut out for him this inning. -

Crede's swing on the 2-1 pitch before was very strange. He was under it by like a foot. -

Terrible f***ing swing by Dye. All three of his at-bats have been awful tonight. BTW, Konerko almost hurt his hamstring by overextending when he reached first base before. -

Now, I'm sure Dye wont be bunting here. He's had two bad AB tonight. Hopefully, he'll drive the ball here.
