7 team league, who's best team?
ZoomSlowik replied to iWiN4PreP's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
Team #1 is surprisingly weak. Obviously he tried to go pitching heavy, which isn't a good idea in that kind of league. Team #2 is solid, although relief pitching might be an issue. They have a ton of speed though, and if Bonds is healthy there is good power. Team #3 also has a lot of weak spots. There are a few solid players, but the lineup has some holes. Plus the relief pitching is poor. Team #4 has a good infield, but the outfield and starting pitching is a little underwhelming. Team #5 has good balance, but has a lot of question marks. They have a lot of injury prone players, especially with the pitching. Team #6 has a passable lineup, but it isn't very deep. Having Figgins and Pods might hurt though because they don't offer much else. Fairly good pitching. Team #7 has a monster infield, but a really iffy OF. The pitching is okay I guess, although Clemens playing would be a boost. I'd say the best offense is probably team #2. They also get my vote for best starting pitching, although Team #6 is also decent because of strong relief pitching. Team #2 probably gets my vote for best team. -
God damned Kansas.

QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) Seeing Bradley as many times as I had this year, I knew they were good and thought they would play with Kansas, honestly didn't think they would beat them. Glad two teams could represent the MVC nicely. P.S. I'm sick of this McDonalds commercial with the guy realizing he is married after he drinks the coffee. I hate to use the same line of logic I was attacking with the SDSU/IU game, but Bradley hit a lot of threes at a really high percentage. The only difference is that Bradley doesn't shoot very well from outside on the year. I deserve it though, Kansas has been a disappointment basically since 1988, with the only major exception being that title game appearance in 2002.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) Well there goes my first FF team. What a waste. Same here. I've been burned in the past, so I should know better. My major problem was that I didn't like anyone in this bracket, so I was bound to find a way to screw it up. In the future when that happens, I think I'm going to go with the chalk and hope for the best as opposed to doing something crazy. It may not be creative, but it's safe. This bracket is really hurting my chances to win anything in my pool.

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) To those of you, can't remember who, that supported Bradley, good call I didn't think they'd compete in this game. It was Rowand. I didn't think Kansas was going to lay an egg, although I didn't think they were going to destroy Bradley either. Good outside shooting on one side and weak outside shooting on the other was a major factor. Probably turnovers too, although the numbers may or may not show it. They hurt Kansas early and cost them a couple of opportunities late.

Looks like Bradley is going to get the upset. They're up 5 and going to the line with 36.4 left. I knew this bracket was going to kill me.
-
Kansas blew it with two turnovers and a missed 3. They just hit one, but they're still down 3 with about a minute to go.
-
Should be an interesting finish. Kansas down 5 at the under 4 timeout. Bradley hasn't done much of late.
-
Quick 5 points for KU plus the foul! Let's go, still time left. Down 5 now, just over 4 left. Another turnover for Bradley!
-
I'm getting nailed by an unusual outside shooting performance, just like my Marquette pick. Bradley shoots 32.4% on the year, and they have 10 3's at just under 50% on the day.
-
Bradley is killing them from the arc and Kansas can't hit a jumper. Why must Kansas always suck when I pick them and do well when I don't?

Way to steal all my award picks. Couldn't you go with Santana or Oswalt like everyone else? -
I would have burned my bracket in effigy if UConn had lost, and I'm sure a lot of others would have as well. I'm fairly happy to still have all my Final Four teams, 7 of my 8 Elite 8, and 13 of my Sweet 16 the way this is going.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) lol no kidding iowa final four felix, although its always nice to take a risky in money pools, usually everyone takes the same team to win it all and you practically need a perfect bracket to win the money so its good to go risky looks like uconn is starting to get away from albany You don't have to do that though, Iowa is a real stretch. There are about 4 teams with a legit shot in each bracket, so it's not all that likely that a lot of people will have the exact same combination you will. Just pick them like you think they will happen and hope for the best. I've had a lot of success that way.

UConn isn't playing their best game, but they're not getting any help from the refs either. They're getting absolutely mugged in the paint almost every time down the court and not getting a call. They've shot themselves in the foot quite a bit, but if they actually called anything down low this game could be over already.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) Texas beat WVU by one at the beginning of the year..... That was also back when Texas wasn't quite in sync yet. Texas turned it over 24 times and West Virginia hit 9 of 23 3's (just under 40%). Texas' defense and ball-handling has gotten a lot better.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) He re-classified and is going to prep school in Maine next year, but since Scout doens't update enough it hasn't pointed that out yet lol. Actually I think they had a note saying that, but they didn't update his placement. Typically I find they're a little more up to date than Rivals, at least for the free material.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) DON'T CHANGE YOUR BRACKETS PEOPLE!! How many times do I gotta say that, first instinct is always the thing to stick with. That's not entirely true, or at least not for me. Yeah, my brilliant Marquette run that backfired was a late addition, but I had Arkansas and Oklahoma orginally too.
-
Wisconsin is lucky to be down only 12. They were seriously out-played.
-
My bracket looks great outside of that lower left corner. I knew that Oakland bracket was going to screw me over because I don't like any of the teams in the bottom half of it.
-
Interesting, Scout.com has Augustus listed as a senior. Is he going to have to go the prep school route or something?

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 01:49 AM) Your reasoning still makes no sense. They shot 39% from 3-pt range for the season. They shot 22.6% on those same 3's in their three most recent games. By that you tell me you expected them to hit 55% of their 3-pointers for the game?? And 65% on all FG's 35 minutes into the game? Even if they shot better than normal, it could not be expected for them to shoot THAT well. And Vaden was 5-12, so there was no counteraction involving him. I'll give you credit for recognizing they had talent. But under semi-normal circumstances, IU wins that game comfortably. I'm saying that they're a good shooting team so it's not out of the realm of possibility. A lot of the major upsets revolve around a team shooting well from the arc. When you have two guys that shoot as many 3's as Heath and Sharper at that high a percentage, it's a major factor. The last game has no impact on how they shot last night. If anything, it says that they should have shot well because of the law of averages, although saying either is true would be a statistical fallacy. It wasn't a certainty that they would shoot that well, but it gives them a better chance than someone that can't shoot. Vaden shoots 40%, but he isn't exactly jacking up 11 a game that often. It's not that big a part of his game. He only averages 6 ATTEMPTS per game, so him hitting 5 3's is a bit unusual. I've got 5-11 from the arc anyways, which would be a little over his typical percentage. I don't think that the 3 was really that big a deal in this game, because both teams were hitting them. Indiana still hit 8 3's, which is fairly good. It wasn't at as high a percentage, but Indiana's outside shooters have been streaky all year. On top of that, SDSU still shot at the same rate inside the arc, so Indiana wasn't exactly playing great D and SDSU got lucky. I think the bigger issue was that SDSU had 16 turnovers to Indiana's 9. That stopped SDSU from putting the game away because they gave Indiana some easy baskets late in the second half.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) Without a doubt the worst and most frusterating tourny day of my life. I had so many close calls: Pacifc, SDSU, Xavier, Winthrop, UNC Wilmington. At this point I just wanna kill someone. That being said I still am ok, because I didn't lose anything too big. As long as my final four stays in tact, I'll be good to go. I took the other route. Instead of picking numerous upsets, missing all or most of them, but not losing anything major, I decided to do a few semi-crazy ones and end up losing a Sweet 16 and an Elite 8. I like your route a bit better. I'm not happy because I was a couple of bounces away from being 14-2 without losing any Sweet 16 teams or further.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) Well Zoom, that game hurt to watch. I was so mad watching the last 15 seconds. Even though they let Indiana back in it, they still would have put it away with even half-way decent execution.
