  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:34 AM) I doubt it. But if the move stands alone, and if there isn't some cash coming back or something else, and if its not part of some multi-lateral move... then it looks like a disappointing trade. I'm now very curious to see what might come next. The Trib is reporting that the Sox will receive cash in the deal. So I'm thinking something like $3M could be coming back the Sox's way.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) Duh, O-cab filled a particular need for an overpaid player coming off a career year and beginning to decline with age. Yes!!! Are Cabrera's '07 numbers really all that much better than his '06, '03 or '01 numbers? I don't see a huge difference between his last 2 seasons. I don't see how 2007 was a career year especially since his 2003 OPS+ was 10 points higher than his '07.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) I understand this situation differently but could be wrong on this. My understanding is they have until one week before the Rule 5 draft to add him to the 40 man and in the interim he's still under their control, despite certain media listing him as a minor league FA. Regier said they were evaluating whether or not to put him on the 40. Then my question is; how did the Rangers sign Warner Madrigal yesterday as a minor league free agent from the Angels? According to the Dallas Morning News:
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) I just dont understand. We would be better off with Garland in the rotation then shopping him at the deadline to teams desperate for pitching. I dont like this at all. Cabrera is old and had an outlier season. If this money goes towards Hunter then we just made the team even older. I just dont get it. How did that work last year when 8 teams were looking for a starter and Garland had another year left on his deal?
  5. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) If Kenny deals one more pitcher who gets injured shortly thereafter, he'll deserve to be fired. It's a violation of a cardinal rule among GMs that you're open about things like that and it's a bulls*** thing to do. Besides, you seem to think KW is beyond simply making terrible stupid ridiculous laughable decisions. Or the Angels could just give Garland a physical unlike the completely inept Phillies front office.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Do we happen to know whether he'd be in the "Type A" group of players? From this perspective the deal should be a win. Garland was a type B for '06/'07 while Cabrera was a type A. So if Orlando Cabrera matches his production from '06 or '07 he'll be a type A free agent while Garland will have to have a pretty big year in order to move up in the grading (he wasn't all that close to being a type A.) So if I had to guess, Garland will be a type B and Cabrera will be a type A. But then you have to ask yourself; will a team be willing to surrender a 1st round pick for a 34 year old Cabrera?
  7. Cabrera is also a free agent after this upcoming season.
  8. All I can do is laugh.
  9. And the Braves gave the Mets their first round pick. Which as far as I can tell will be the #18 pick in the draft. Nothing like giving your main rival a top 20 pick and a pretty high sandwich pick. (possibly in the 30's considering how quick Glavine signed.)
  10. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) That is unlikely to happen. I wish the Sox would part ways with the Royals rejects and outbid the Royals for this Japanese guy. I would rather we trot anybody out there than some of the hacks the Sox used in the pen last year. MacDougal was the Sox's best reliever in 2006 so believe it or not he doesn't totally suck.

As far as I can tell Jason Bourgeois is no longer under White Sox control since they did not add him to their 40 man roster. So they'd have to re-sign him and there will be some competition for his services. I don't think the Sox are all that interested in Bourgeois if they were they would have just added him to the 40 rather than letting him hit free agency.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) It's pretty obvious Fields is a DH type. Whether he can blast homers at the rate of a Paulie/Thome remains to be seen. He is a butcher at 3B and in LF. Sox pitchers are not gonna be happy at all the errors at 3b. How many times have you actually seen Josh Fields play 3B?
  13. According to some Dominican sports website the Mets and Luis Castillo have agreed in principle to a 4 year $25M contract. Like I said to the people who kept mentioning Castillo's name in PHT; he wants 4 years and he'll likely get 4 years.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) Oh yeah, I was right about this one... The Rangers gave Madrigal a major league deal -- though he'll likely be sent to the minors -- essentially because the Angels made the mistake of not making the proper deadline put him on the 40-man roster. He signed a minor league deal with the Rangers.
  15. Santana's beautiful arm can pitch out of the pen until he learns how to get his road ERA under 8. At least Danks pitched well for pretty much the entire first half of the season (4.96 ERA over his first 21 starts), Santana is looking like a reclamation project at this point.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) That is ridiculous. Than again the offer the Yanks are giving Rivera is absolutely assinine. At least he is possibly the greatest closer in the history of the game and the Yankees have unlimited financial recourses. Luis Vizcaino is a decent 6th/7th inning guy who you can count on to pitch ever other day and remain relatively consistent. I'm just wondering when the price tag for those guys topped $20 million. If Vizcaino gets 4 years, $20M then Linebrink should be looking at a $30M deal.
  17. Jason, why do you have that awful, awful pitcher Ervin Santana in the rotation? And where is John Danks?
  18. From Rotoworld: Wait, what? Seriously? No f***ing way!?!
  19. According to the New York Daily News David Eckstein is looking for a deal in the range of 4 years, $36M. I find that quite humorous.

They played together on San Fransisco. Herges anonymously criticized Pierzynski in the press for his handling of the pitching staff. AJ found out about it and there was a confrontation. Those 2 will never play together again.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) I suggested Herges a couple days ago. I think he'd be an ideal addition to our bullpen. We'd still probably want to carry 12 pitchers, esp. if we move a starter and go with the 2 kids...but that's exactly the kind of guy I want to add. Older, experienced, maybe cheaper than other guys, doesn't cost a draft pick, short term contract, might mesh well with the kids, and would still leave us room to try out either Masset, Aardsma, or sign one of the Japanese guys if we though they were worth the $. In order to land Herges you'll have to give him 2 guaranteed years. He will be 38 next year.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Soriano is good in left. He at least gets a ton of assists. He's awful in left, he has an excellent arm but at the same time he has the worst instincts I've ever seen, does a little hop when he catches each flyball and has a habit of misplaying most balls hit to him or to either side. A good throwing arm does not a good fielder make.
  23. Castillo is looking for a 4 year deal and many believe he will get it. The Astros have made him their top priority and the Mets are still looking re-sign him. A 4 or even 3 year deal for Luis Castillo is a terrible idea IMO.

Alright, as I said I haven't seen it yet but I have seen a few reviews that have b****ed about that.
