QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) I'd be interested to know when Bruce last talked with Mark's agent. If this morning, then put away the part favors. If a day or two ago, then .... It was around noon. He contacted Buehrle's agent only after the Score reported a deal was close to done.
-
"Mark Buehrle who's not only about to start for the Sox in Tampa . . . but is also about to get a 4 year contract extension." Offman continues to report it as fact.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) 1:30 update time. Is The Score sticking to their guns? Murphy just finished some terrible interview that ran long so the update gets pushed back a bit.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) Is that what ESPN 1000 is reporting? I didn't see that posted Levine talked to Buehrle's agent who said no new negotiations have taken place.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) I would go with the news being reported on the Sox flagship station over the other sports radio station in town. They're more likely to have some inside news after being with them over the last two yrs. Except 1000 is getting their report directly from Buehrle's agent.
-
And Offman continues to report this as fact. "remember Buehrle said he'd like to spend the rest of his career with the White Sox . . . well he'll be spending at least the next 4 and a half years on the South Side."
-
Omar Vizquel Bruce has been wrong before.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) Am I being overly optimistic though if I say I think the chances are 100 pct greater today than 24 hours ago that Buehrle would stay with the Sox? I think the Sox almost HAVE to get something done after this debacle.
-
QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I dont know if I heard it right or not but Murphy just said that sometime Buerhle will be checking in. Can someone confirm that? Ok, last speculative comment right here. If Buehrle does come on and says he signed an extension then he went behind his agent's back to get a deal done on his own.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) Maybe the Sox are leaking bad info out to certain people to try to determine who their leaks actually are. Then you leak a trade rumor not a contract extension with Mark Buehrle. Talk about terrible timing for a witch hunt.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) he did this on the 12:30 update? Awesome, I love their explinations when this stuff explodes in their face. "Oh, well, we have sources that we trusted before and they let us down this time..." Yep, 12:30 and I assume he'll do the same at 1:00 as well.
-
Offman continues to report this like it's a done deal. "So Buehrle is staying and Jaque Jones . . . he might be staying too." Dear god this is a clusterf*** of ineptitude.
-
If nothing gets done and this turns out to be a load of s***, I'm done with WSCR. Completely finished.
-
This is so infuriating.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) In my very STRONG opinion, this is bulls*** - and not just the reported deal but that they are even talking at all right now - and I hope there is backlash. Well according to ESPN 1000 Buehrle's agent says THERE HAVE BEEN NO NEW CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN HIS CLIENT AND THE WHITE SOX.
-
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) Why in the world would he accept less than or the same that they gave Vazquez? He's their #1 guy. I doubt Buehrle will be signing a deal worth a flat $50 over 4, there has to be other guaranteed money involved. And since when is 3 years, $34.5M the same as 4 years $50M?
-
How does George Offman keep from laughing each time he says 4 years, $50M? It's just such a ridiculously cheap deal.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) The $$'s are so idiotic I'm ashamed to even ask anyone if it's true.. LOL. He'd be giving up $30-$40M to stay in Chicago if it is $50M of course there could be more to the deal.
-
They don't do "sign and trades" in baseball, that's a basketball/football thing. In baseball you allow the team making the trade a 72 hour window to work out their own deal with the player. This way they can get the deal done anyway they please with incentive clauses, buyouts, options or anything else they may see fit.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) I am waiting for someone in the Sox camp or multiple media outlets to start reporting this. Levine...get off your ass and back it up. I'd be much more comfortable if that was the case. Listening to 1000 for the past 10 minutes or so Silvy and Carmen haven't even mentioned it, the update mentioned the same ST article as they have all morning but if Buehrle has signed, it hasn't gotten anywhere near ESPN 1000.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) I'm telling you, something doesn't smell right about this. Hey, I could be wrong, but this is almost TOO GOOD of a deal. I really don't like the way Mulligan and Hanley are talking right now. They continue to repeat themselves saying it's not quite a done deal and that "sources" (ick) are telling them it's close/done. I could see KW dealing him away in the next few hours and totally killing this buzz the Score has sent through the fanbase.
-
It's interesting that Levine hasn't broken in yet, he's usually on top of anything involving the Chicago teams. He had all the details of the failed Jaque Jones deal before anyone else. It would be pretty funny if the ST article was just a ploy, the Score got some bad info and KW is about to deal Buehrle away before his start tonight.
-
What an amazing deal if it is true. I need to hear the full details before I really get excited about this but it sounds like one hell of a job done by KW.
-
If it's 4 years, $50M then there have to be some serious incentives and a huge buyout in there somewhere. $12.5M is nothing for a pitcher of Buehrle's caliber. THE DEAL IS DONE!! IT'S DONE IN PRINCIPLE! HANLEY SAYS IT"S DONE.
-
Holy s***. Sources tell the Score that the deal may already be done at 4 years. $50M. If this is true it's a fleecing.
